An eyewitness has captured the terrifying moment a man desperately sprints away from a charging polar bear on a remote Arctic island in the town Pyramiden.
Rebecca Baack was staying at a hotel in Svalbard for a ski expedition last month when she captured a video from her balcony of a man who appeared to attempt to scare away a polar bear by shooting a rifle.
After the rifle was fired, the polar bear lumbers towards the man across what looks like a car park as the man quickly sprints away over a wall and into deep snow.
The man makes a bee-line for a snowmoblie which is luckily only parked a few meters away from him and jumps on it, throwing his rifle in the snow just before the bear reaches him.
As the man zooms off to safety the bear stops for a moment then continues to chase in the wake of the snowmobile.
After realising it's not going to catch the snowmobile the polar bear sits for a moment, looking slightly defeated.

Photo of Pheobe Bishop's housemate reportedly spotted on popular app
An undated profile with a photo of the housemate of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop has reportedly been seen on the popular dating app Tinder. Daily Mail Australia reported a profile purporting to be of Wood was seen on Tinder, with an undated photo of himself listed as looking for 'short-term fun' on the site. Wood is wearing aviator sunglasses and a cowboy hat in the photo, along with a high vis polo top. Wood shared a dilapidated home in the small town of Gin Gin, about 50km from Bundaberg, with Bishop and his current girlfriend, Tanika Bromley. The Gin Gin property and Tanika Bromley's grey Hyundai ix35 were both declared a crime scene following the disappearance. However, the vehicle has since been returned back to Bromley. Police have repeatedly said both parties have been co-operative in the investigation. Bishop was last seen about 8.30am on May 15 at Airport Dr in Bundaberg, Queensland. The teenager was planning to fly to Perth to spend time with a boyfriend, prior to her going missing. The housemates told police they dropped the teenager to Bundaberg Airport. However, Pheobe failed to check in for her flight and no CCTV footage of her has emerged. Pheobe Bishop was last seen near Bundaberg's airport in southern Queensland. Credit: AAP Just days ago, Pheobe's mother, Kylie Johnson, released a heartbreaking statement asking for her daughter back. However, the distraught mother has had to deal with trolling after uploading the clip. 'I'm sorry that I'm currently an emotional wreck, trying to protect our other children from the media and the trolls, trying to continue to breathe while your world shatters around you!' Johnson said. 'People wanted a statement, they got one yet still question me as a mother?' Johnson posted afterwards. 'If anyone would like to be in this position please step in and show me how to do this? Show me what a perfect parent looks like. 'Show me how to navigate this? Show me how to deal with the unknown and the uncertainty? Show me how to use perfect language and emotion in a situation that no parent ever wants to be in.' Police, firefighters, SES crews have all been involved in the search for the teenager, near Good Night National Park, where they have deployed drones to scan dense scrub and creek beds. The search was called off last week. Pheobe is described as being 180cm, pale complexion, long dyed red hair, and hazel eyes.
