Photo of Pheobe Bishop's housemate James Wood reportedly spotted on popular dating app Tinder

7NEWS3 days ago

An undated profile with a photo of the housemate of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop has reportedly been seen on the popular dating app Tinder.
Daily Mail Australia reported a profile purporting to be of Wood was seen on Tinder, with an undated photo of himself listed as looking for 'short-term fun' on the site.
Wood is wearing aviator sunglasses and a cowboy hat in the photo, along with a high vis polo top.
Wood shared a dilapidated home in the small town of Gin Gin, about 50km from Bundaberg, with Bishop and his current girlfriend, Tanika Bromley.
The Gin Gin property and Tanika Bromley's grey Hyundai ix35 were both declared a crime scene following the disappearance.
However, the vehicle has since been returned back to Bromley.
7NEWS is not suggesting Wood or Bromley are involved in the disappearance of Bishop.
Police have repeatedly said both parties have been co-operative in the investigation.
Bishop was last seen about 8.30am on May 15 at Airport Dr in Bundaberg, Queensland. The teenager was planning to fly to Perth to spend time with a boyfriend, prior to her going missing.
The housemates told police they dropped the teenager to Bundaberg Airport. However, Pheobe failed to check in for her flight and no CCTV footage of her has emerged.
Just days ago, Pheobe's mother, Kylie Johnson, released a heartbreaking statement asking for her daughter back.
However, the distraught mother has had to deal with trolling after uploading the clip.
'I'm sorry that I'm currently an emotional wreck, trying to protect our other children from the media and the trolls, trying to continue to breathe while your world shatters around you!' Johnson said.
'People wanted a statement, they got one yet still question me as a mother?' Johnson posted afterwards.
'If anyone would like to be in this position please step in and show me how to do this? Show me what a perfect parent looks like.
'Show me how to navigate this? Show me how to deal with the unknown and the uncertainty? Show me how to use perfect language and emotion in a situation that no parent ever wants to be in.'
Police, firefighters, SES crews have all been involved in the search for the teenager, near Good Night National Park, where they have deployed drones to scan dense scrub and creek beds.
The search was called off last week.
Pheobe is described as being 180cm, pale complexion, long dyed red hair, and hazel eyes.

Perth couple in heated custody battle over foster puppy

Police are being criticised over their response to a custody dispute, not over a child but over a puppy. The incident occurred when five officers arrived at a Yokine home of Friday morning to deal with an on-going dispute between a couple and a shelter. The custody battle is over Delta, an eight-month-old Kelpie who was put up for adoption by Swan Animal Haven. Pallas Retimana and her partner were fostering the young Kelpie on a trial basis, and had agreed to adopt her, but issues arose when they said they had plans to move inter-state. Swan Animal Haven allegedly said adoption was no longer an option. Jess Sackman from Swan Animal Haven told Seven News they contacted the couple, offering a proposal they found reasonable. 'We then contacted them on Thursday with a proposal to say, if you guys can meet these conditions, then we can consider going through with this adoption because it makes us feel more comfortable, they rejected that offer, which we felt left no alternative but to involve the police,' they said. In an online petition, Ms Retimana said they have offered 'every compromise imaginable' including delaying their move, but Swan Animal Haven refused. 'Swan Animal Haven has reported the dog stolen, which is not true. They handed the dog over to us willingly,' she told 7News.. The police made a surprise visit to the couples home on Friday morning to seize the puppy. Ms Retimana said the experience has been 'pretty emotional, pretty stressful, really distressing for the both of us'. 'I really just want Delta to stay with us and be apart of our family.' Premier Roger Cook has criticised the need for police involvement in the situation. 'Our police have got a lot of things to do. We don't want their resources being deployed to these sort of activities, which can be sorted out by the parties,' Mr Cook said.

Missing teen girl's body found near national park

The body of missing and suspected-murdered teenager Pheobe Bishop has been found in national park bushland on the same day two housemates faced court charged over her death. Police confirmed the remains, believed to be Pheobe, were found about 2.30pm on Friday near Good Night Scrub National Park, southwest of Bundaberg in Queensland. Pheobe's mother Kylie Johnson was quick to share her grief. "I didn't think my heart could break anymore then it did when you went missing, or when the charges were laid but this! This is ripping me apart ..." she posted on Facebook. Detectives have set up a crime scene where the body was found and continue to appeal for further information. Earlier on Friday Pheobe's sister Kaylea Bishop issued a heartbreaking plea to find her sibling outside a southern Queensland court where James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, were remanded in custody. Pheobe's two housemates have been charged with murder and two counts each of interfering with a corpse. They were arrested on Thursday night, marking three weeks to the day since the 17-year-old missed a flight and vanished. Pheobe's sister was flanked by supporters at Bundaberg Magistrates Court, where Wood and Bromley's matter was mentioned on Friday. Locals gathered outside court including one holding up a sign in support of the missing teen's shattered family as Pheobe's sister launched her tearful appeal. "If you've got any information about Pheobe ... just come forward," she told reporters. "Three weeks is too long for us as a family. We just want her home. "She was loved, she's missed dearly." Police allege Wood and Bromley moved Pheobe's body more than once. "Whilst we always hoped to find Pheobe alive, our investigation ... quite clearly showed us that that was not going to be a viable outcome," Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said. Pheobe was last seen near Bundaberg airport about 8.30am on May 15 after booking a trip to Western Australia to see her boyfriend. Wood and Bromley were housemates with Pheobe at a Gin Gin property near Bundaberg. Police allege the pair drove the 17-year-old close to the airport in a grey Hyundai but no one exited the car. Pheobe was allegedly murdered and her body moved more than once from the Good Night Scrub National Park, an hour's drive from the airport. Police had previously searched the park, saying their investigations indicated evidence may have been moved before officers arrived. Phone data had led to officers focusing their search on the park, police said. Police believe they understand the motive for Pheobe's alleged murder, the detective said. Wood's SUV has been seized by police for forensic examination. He had been living in the vehicle after the Gin Gin property he shared with Bromley and Pheobe was declared a crime scene following the teen's disappearance. Police bodycam footage released on Friday showed the moment Wood was arrested in the Bundaberg area, with an officer telling him he was being taken into custody over the "homicide" of Pheobe. Wood and Bromley have been remanded in custody ahead of their next court appearance on August 11. They had earlier been charged with unrelated weapons offences after police allegedly found a shortened firearm, ammunition and two replica handguns in their car and home. The Gin Gin community is set to hold a vigil for Pheobe in coming days. "It's a sad day for the community and a devastating one for Pheobe's family," Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn told AAP. City of Vincent suspends e-scooter trial just days after death of Perth father

A second council has pulled the handbrake on e-scooters following a spate of serious incidents. The City of Vincent, a local government in Perth, has suspended its e-scooter trial as of June 6 to allow time for a review. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: City of Vincent takes e-scooters off streets. Its rental scooters will be removed from the streets over the next 48 hours. Vincent's announcement comes a day after the City of Perth made the snap decision to suspend rental e-scooters indefinitely following the death of 51-year-old pedestrian Thanh Phan. 'We were very saddened to hear about the tragic accident in the City of Perth,' Vincent Mayor Alison Xamon said. 'Our condolences are with the family. 'Like our neighbours at Perth, we have decided to temporarily suspend our trial so we can review the safety of the hireable e-scooters and consider ways to improve this service or if it even needs to continue.' Phan, a Menora father of two, was allegedly struck by a drunk tourist while out for dinner in the CBD last Saturday night. 'A tragic event occurred at the weekend and our thoughts are with the deceased man's family at this very sad time,' City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said on Thursday. 'In response to the fatality, the City of Perth has suspended the hiring of e-scooters.' Phan's death came just days after a 31-year-old man was killed in a late-night crash with a truck. An 11-year-old boy was fortunate not to have lost his right leg in a collision with a car in Lakelands, in Perth's south, on May 23. Officers will be targeting speeding, mobile phones, riding under the influence of drugs and alcohol, helmet use and passenger limits. 'Police will be adopting an 'education through enforcement' approach to identified offences involving electric rideable devices,' WA Police said. St John Ambulance has responded to 328 serious e-scooter crashes this year. Doctors say devastating crashes involving e-scooters are on the rise, with one seriously injured rider presenting every day at RPH. 'We saw an exponential increase in these injuries over the last five or so years,' RPH trauma surgeon Dieter Weber told 7NEWS last week. 'This has been a new injury pattern that we simply did not have previously.' 'Traumatic injuries' Public health and safety experts have called for improved safety regulations across Australia after a new report identified that 176 injured children aged between five years and 15 years had been taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2023 and 2024. Researchers found one in 10 e-scooter injuries were life threatening or potentially life threatening, and almost four in 10 cases involved a broken bone. 'The types of injuries ranged from minor fractures and injuries through to traumatic brain injuries requiring a craniotomy,' lead author Matthew Clanfield said. 'A lot of the parents attending were extremely upset to see their child hospitalised and weren't aware how risky e-scooters can be or the legal requirement for supervision under 16.' Public Health Association of Australia chief executive Terry Slevin said e-scooters were 'proving (to be) a genuine public health risk and injury prevention issue'. 'This study provides data in one region and in one hospital, but this is an issue in every town and city where they have landed across Australia,' he said. The Queensland Government is preparing to hold a public inquiry into e-scooters and other mobility devices.
