Muhammad Ali's brother dies aged 82 as 'extraordinary bond' hailed in tributes
Muhammad Ali's younger brother Rahaman has passed away at the age of 82, the Muhammad Ali Center has announced. Rahaman died on August 1 after battling an illness, having spent the final weeks of his life in a hospice in his hometown of Louisville.
"You can't tell Muhammad's story without mentioning Rahaman," DeVone Holt, President and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center, said. "He was one of the most constant sources of support for Muhammad during this career and their relationship was a true example of what it means to be 'my brother's keeper.'"
Rahaman was also a professional boxer and had a 14-3 record, retiring from the sport in 1972 after he was knocked out by Jack O'Halloran. Rahaman would regularly spar with his brother and Muhammad's daughter Hana spoke of their "extraordinary bond" in an emotional tribute to her uncle.
"Today, the last living member of my father's immediate family returned to heaven," Hana wrote. "My Uncle, lovingly known as Rock, was a sweet, gentle soul with a heart as big as the world.
"He had that same sparkle in his eye that my father had… that same light, that same mischief, that same love. They were close their entire lives, brothers by blood, but friends by choice. Even as children, their bond was extraordinary. "My father loved his brother like he was his own child. I can just picture them now, reunited in heaven… playing Cowboys and Indians with the broomsticks they used to find in Mama Bird and Papa Cash's closet.
"Daddy always insisted on being the Cowboy, and Rock the Indian. Or maybe they're back to one of their favourite games, Daddy convincing Rock to throw actual rocks at him so he could prove how fast he was by dodging them.
"Whatever they're doing up there, I know it's full of joy, laughter, and the kind of brotherly love that helped shape our family. Uncle Rock had a heart of gold.
"He never needed a spotlight to shine, and I believe that now, from above, he and Daddy are part of something bigger… something beautiful… something meant to help heal this broken world.
"God bless you, Uncle Rock. You will be missed. You will be forever loved. And when my time comes, I hope you and Daddy will both be there, waiting to welcome me home."

F1 fans floored by what Lando Norris wrote on champagne bottle after Hungarian GP win
Lando Norris also hid his trophy from danger when the champagne spraying began on the podium, having broken the one won by Max Verstappen at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023 Lando Norris was never going to make the same mistake twice. Having held off team-mate Oscar Piastri to win the Hungarian Grand Prix, there was only one thing on his mind from even before he went up the steps to the podium. These days, because of a sponsorship agreement, the winner of a race signs a bottle of champagne and writes a little message on it. Norris took the opportunity to have a little bit of fun, writing: "Don't break the trophy!" It was a message to himself, having got himself in some bother a couple of years ago. He finished second in the 2023 edition of the Budapest race, but was the centre of attention during the podium ceremony when he accidentally knocked over the trophy won by race victor Max Verstappen. And on Sunday, he made sure he was not going to repeat that error. After the national anthems were played and the trophies were handed out, Norris made a beeline for his porcelain prize and placed it at the side of the podium, before returning to spray some champagne. It did not go unnoticed by fans. "He moved it so far away!" wrote one on social media, while several others noted that he had stopped to also remove team-mate Piastri's trophy out of harm's way before slamming his bottle on the ground to get the fizz flowing. The unfortunate 2023 incident had been a complete accident and Verstappen took it well, laughing on the podium when he noticed what had happened. But still, Norris was apologetic – perhaps aware of how much work had gone into its creation. Trophies handed out at the Hungarian GP are traditionally made out of porcelain and are painstakingly hand-painted by specialist artists. They were created by manufacturer Herend, took around six months to make and cost around £35,000. "I do want to apologise for it, it was never my intention to do such a thing," Norris later said. "I know how much it means to the Hungarians and it is part of their culture and so forth. Of course, I want to enjoy my time but it was never my intention to do such a thing. I do feel bad, if he did it to my trophy I would feel annoyed. I do apologise for it, to the people who put the time and effort into making it, I really did not mean for it to happen and I will be a lot more careful next time." And he lived up to his word on Sunday, going the extra mile to make sure there would be no more shattered porcelain littering the podium this time.

Sky Sports forced to issue live on-air apology as Scottish Premiership coverage suffers major disruption
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SKY SPORTS were forced to apologise after their live Scottish Premiership coverage suffered technical chaos. The broadcaster is showing four matches across a bumper opening weekend of top flight action. 2 Sky Sports had to apologise live on air Credit: Getty 2 Sky's on-air apology Credit: SKY SPORTS Saturday night's coverage of the big Fir Park clash between Motherwell and Rangers went smoothly. But their second game of the weekend between Championship winners Falkirk and Dundee United didn't quite go to plan. So much so, that mid-way through the first half, Sky were forced to issue an on-air apology to punters watching at home. While pre-match analysis and build-up went without a hitch, a major issue cropped up once the game commenced. That's because commentators Gary Weaver and James McFadden were way out of sync with the pictures. Early on in the match, the sound appeared to briefly cut out and once it came back, it was very obviously not in sync with what was going on. A sizeable delay appeared to be in play, with the commentators' description of what was happening not following until several seconds after the pictures had shown what they were describing. Around the 25th minute of the match, a graphic appeared in the bottom right of the screen simply saying: "Apologies for sound issues." The graphic remained on screen for around 10 minutes. In the 35th minute of the game, the sound appeared to briefly dip out for a second or two and after that, the commentary was back in sync with the action. Billy Dodds on returning to Rangers under Barry Ferguson, defeating Mourinho & ending Celtic Park hoodoo Presenter Eilidh Barbour also acknowledged the issues when she picked up in the studio during the half time break. Addressing the audience, she said: "Apologies for the sound issues during that first half, hopefully you still enjoyed that first 45." The issue didn't go down too well with punters watching on at home. One said: "Match commentary well behind the TV pictures." A second fan said: "Please fix the audio for the Falkirk/Dundee United game, it's about 30 seconds behind the actual game." Another posted: "Thought it was just me. Even switched my TV on and off." While the issue appeared to have been resolved before the half time whistle, it returned as the second half kicked-off with the commentary once again obviously well behind the pictures. Lewis Hamilton trashed as Bernie Ecclestone comments on doing a deal with Christian Horner
Lewis Hamilton's hopes of a successful season with Ferrari have likely already been dashed, with the former Mercedes man struggling to make an impact in his first year with the Scuderia Bernie Ecclestone has launched a scathing attack on Lewis Hamilton, dismissing the seven-time world champion's prospects of securing another title. The Formula One supremo and former chief executive also suggested it might be time for the 40-year-old to call time on his career. Hamilton's woes at Ferrari persisted during Saturday's qualifying session in Hungary, where he could only manage 12th place on the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix. The Brit currently sits sixth in the championship standings, with any realistic hopes of mounting a title challenge in 2025 already extinguished. The ex-Mercedes driver had been expected to experience a revival at the Italian outfit following his surprising switch from the Silver Arrows at the conclusion of last season. When quizzed by Sky Sports about rumours linking him and axed Red Bull team boss Christian Horner to a potential takeover at Alpine, Ecclestone delivered a withering response: "More chance of Lewis winning his eighth title than that happening." Pressed to expand on his comments, he continued: "I think Lewis has done a fantastic job. He's still super talented. But I think maybe he ought to move over a little bit. Be terrible if something happened to him now," reports the Express. The veteran motorsport figure also touched upon Horner's departure after two decades leading Red Bull, acknowledging he had associates within the team who were involved in the dismissal and arguing they needed to act decisively once the choice was made. "Maybe it was a little bit ruthless to do it in the way they did it," he commented. They didn't have much choice. They decided this is what they were going to do and that's it. They had to get on it and do it." He also expressed scepticism about the Englishman's return to F1, saying: "I don't know how and where, or whether he wants to do it. Because the position he really wanted at Red Bull was to own part of the team." Ecclestone has spent time in Hungary this week, attending as a special guest at an event on Thursday celebrating the 40th F1 Grand Prix at the revamped Hungaroring. Hamilton was visibly emotional after Saturday's qualifying, where he had failed to make the top 10. Following a disappointing Q2 exit, the Brit is set to start Sunday's race 12th on the grid. The racing icon was in a despondent mood when speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying and when asked what went wrong, he said: "It's just me, every time. I'm useless, absolutely useless. "The team has no problem – the other car is on pole. They probably need to change driver." The mood between Hamilton and Charles Leclerc couldn't be more opposite, given that the latter secured his first pole position of the season. Speaking after claiming pole, a smiling Leclerc said: "I don't understand anything in Formula 1. The whole qualifying was extremely difficult Q3, everything became a lot trickier, I just knew it had to be a clean lap. "I definitely did not expect that. We are on pole position, I have no words, probably one of the best I've ever had, the most unexpected for sure."
