Telefilm Cancels Canada House Presence at SXSW Amid Political Tensions
Canada House at the Austin, Texas media festival has long been a meeting hub for Canadian content producers, musicians, film distributors and other industry players looking to network, forge international sales and secure funding from foreign partners.

But SXSW this year coincides with a threat of a 25 percent tariff on Canadian and Mexican exports to the U.S. from the Trump administration.
'Through the Canada House, Telefilm relies on partnerships to ensure financial viability. Unfortunately, due to the withdrawal of key financial partners, we have had to make the difficult decision to pause the Canada House, as we could not sustain the same level of investments,' Telefilm Canada said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Canadian film financier had no comment on the reasons for the withdrawal of support by traditional Canada House partners. Telefilm Canada hosts similar Canadian industry pavilions to showcase homegrown content and talent at the European Film Market in Berlin, the Cannes Film Festival, MIPTV and MIPCOM and the Toronto Film Festival, among other events.
Among the backers to pull support for Canada House at SXSW this year — generally by taking space in the pavilion — is the Canadian Independent Music Association, a professional organization for the Canadian independent music industry.
At the same time, Telefilm Canada will continue to help fund the Canadian Innovation Lounge at the 2025 SXSW festival.
'Telefilm remains committed to championing Canadian talent and celebrating their achievements at SXSW. We will continue to be present, supporting Canadian teams whose films/projects are selected, and engaging with the industry at the Canadian Innovation Lounge,' the federal government agency said in its statement.

Blake Lively Announces First New Movie Since Justin Baldoni Lawsuit Drama
Amidst her ongoing legal battle with It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni, has announced her next movie project. Lively is best known for playing Serena van den Woodsen in the CW's Gossip Girl show. She's also starred in movies such as 2005's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, 2010's The Town, 2011's Green Lantern, 2015's The Age of Adaline, 2016's The Shallows, and 2018's A Simple Favor, among other titles. Following the release of the 2024 drama film based on the Colleen Hoover novel, Lively has been in the news largely because of her heated legal battles with Baldoni rather than for her acting. She did star in one movie that has been released since then, Another Simple Favor; however, that project was filmed in March 2024, before the It Ends with Us drama began. What is the new Blake Lively movie? Per The Hollywood Reporter, it has now been announced that Lively will star in and produce a brand-new movie called The Survival List. Marc Platt is producing the project, while Tom Melia wrote a spec script. Scott O'Brien is overseeing the movie for Lionsgate. 'An action romantic comedy, Survival List tells of a highbrow reality TV producer named Annie who, against her wishes, is assigned to a new show hosted by a famous survival expert, Chopper Lane,' a description of the project reads. 'However, when a shipwreck strands them on a deserted island, Annie discovers Chopper is a fraud and knows nothing about survival, leaving her in charge of figuring out how to keep them alive. Forced to work together, they begin to discover an unlikely chemistry.' No director is attached to the project at this time, and additional casting has not yet been announced. The Survival List does not yet have a release date. Ilona Maher Says She's Been Approached to Join WWE
After her turn on Dancing With the Stars last year, Ilona Maher doesn't seem to be done with Hollywood just yet. The rugby star and Olympic bronze medalist recently revealed to BBC Sport that she's 'been approached before by the WWE,' adding that if she joined the wrestling entertainment company, her ring name would be 'Maher-vellous.'
