Panathinaikos' ramshackle ground, Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, is being rebuilt and the club will return back to their spiritual home for the new season.
But it won't be ready in time for their clash with Rangers.
A further complication is Athens' Olympic Stadium is getting roof repairs, but Panathinaikos have received reassurances from the Greek government that work will be delayed until after the game.
With a huge capacity of 65,000, tickets won't be a problem for Rangers fans, with Panathinaikos rarely coming close to selling out in most of their European games.
And Rangers will be reassured to learn their second qualifying round, second leg tie won't be a true home game either for their hosts.
Rangers, meanwhile, are preparing contract talks with top asset Nico Raskin.
New Ibrox boss Russell Martin is determined to build his team around the Belgian midfield dynamo.
The little Belgian is approaching the final two years of his current deal — and a growing number of clubs are looking at him.
He cost £1.75million when arriving from Standard Liege in January 2023 and his value is soaring.
Both sporting director Kevin Thelwell and the Ibrox club's new US owners are determined to construct a far better transfer model.

And they know there's a need to protect the club's interests while rewarding Raskin with increased terms.

Osimhen's Man Utd rejection after having "too much respect" to compete with flop
Victor Osimhen is on Manchester United's radar but he previously rejected the prospect of a move to Old Trafford due to having too much respect for one of their strikers Victor Osimhen has previously rejected a move to Manchester United out of respect for one of his compatriots as he claimed he had "too much respect" to battle with him for a starting berth. That was way back in 2020, just before he joined Napoli. It was during his stint with Lille that Osimhen first put himself on the map and his goalscoring exploits made a number of clubs stand up and take note. United were among them, but the Italian side eventually won the race. Osimhen's refusal to join the Premier League side stemmed from the fact they then had Odion Ighalo on their books. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer raised eyebrows when he went and signed the former Watford man to address the team's attacking issues. Ighalo had a bright start, but quickly tailed off and his record by the time he left Manchester stood at five goals in 23 games. That said, he was one of the senior Nigerian players of his generation and Osimhen had great respect for the player who was nine years his senior. The Napoli frontman felt he couldn't compete with his fellow countryman for a starting spot knowing that ultimately one of them would lose out, which motivated his move to Italy. Osimhen's brother, Andrew, told Complete Sports: "It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor, but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague. My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn't see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt." Fast forward five years and Osimhen heading to Manchester could yet materialise. Despite firing Napoli to the Serie A title several years ago the striker is now surplus to requirements whilst Antonio Conte remains at the helm. He has bought in Romelu Lukaku and backed the Belgian as his leading light in attack. It forced Osimhen to head out on loan last term but he continued to be prolific whilst at Galatasaray. Now back in Italy, he is likely to be sold once a buyer can be found. Already this summer he has turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, underlining his desire to stay in Europe and ex-United star Rio Ferdinand is among those to endorse a move for the Nigerian. He said: "I think if I'm looking at the market now and I had to pick him (Viktor Gyokeres) or Osimhen, I'd probably pick Osimhen because of that experience." Game On, which is available now on Youtube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts, airs every Friday and this week Michael Gannon and Gavin Berry passionately debate the big talking points. Our expert panel discusses all the big issues in Scottish sport and beyond - in handy bitesize chunks. This week the top team discuss whether Celtic should cash in on Nicolas Kuhn and whether the £15million RB Leipzig are reportedly looking to pay is a fair price and James Tavernier's future with the imminent arrival of Max Aarons. You won't regret taking two minutes out of your day to enjoy it. Here's just a flavour of it. You can watch the full podcast in the player above, or listen here. Is the reported £15million a fair price for Nicolas Kuhn and should Celtic cash in? GB: If Celtic were to receive an offer of £15m I think you would take it. MG: Yeah? This is a guy who was a shoo-in for Player of the Year up until January. GB: That's the key thing - up until January. He's been there for 18 months and had a purple patch. He's been hot for a third of his time at Celtic. Bought for £3.5m, off the boil at the end of the season. If Celtic want to get more than £15m you have to be sure he's going to get back to the blistering level of the start of last season and there's no guarantees of that. MG: I don't think he's maximised his value yet. It would be hard to get £15m just now but they could get more down the line. The key is to get him to be more consistent but you have to cut him some slack and I don't think his fall off in the second half of the season was that bad. He was still good at times. He had a phenomenal performance away to Bayern Munich. We know he's a player. Celtic shouldn't be looking to sell him unless he's got itchy feet. Has John Souttar put his Rangers career in jeopardy by delaying surgery to play for Scotland? MG: I don't think he's put it in jeopardy. The reality is John Souttar is a very good footballer, a good defender, really solid but he has had his issues with injuries. He's done amazing to come back from three career-threatening injuries. Rangers needed two central defenders for the season anyway - you have to think Robin Propper will go as well - and this slightly strange situation has expedited that. Who is to blame for this? I find the timing of the surgery a bit strange and narrowing the the time of recovery. GB: I have to say Russell Martin has spoken about it and said he will be fit for Panathinaikos. And that it was very much John Souttar who was desperate to play for Scotland. I'm not sure Rangers fans will agree those games were important enough. The other thing is Scotland have huge World Cup qualifiers in September - is it not better he's in peak physical condition for those games? MG: All parties will look back on this and think it was silly. John should have said after the Bilbao game he wanted in sharpish to get back, the club should have said that and Steve Clarke should have said he didn't need him for friendlies against Finland and Liechtenstein as he knows what he can do. Is there a future for the FIFA Club World Cup in the current format? MG: I've liked a few of the games but Bayern Munich v Auckland City... the poor goalkeeper for Auckland is a forklift driver and could have done with one to lift the ball out the back of the net. GB: I picked up a coupon in the bookies and Bayern were 1/1000 and I'd never seen odds like it. I had to watch the game to see if it was as one-sided - and it was! (10-0). But there are quality sides outside of the Big Five leagues in Europe. We live in this Champions League bubble and think nothing exists outside of UEFA. MG: Did you see Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal? I was really impressed with them. They've spent a few quid but you watch them and think they could do some damage to some of our teams. GB: There is potential. There has to be changes. When in the season should we play it? Should the domestic season finish earlier or the new one start later? Bin League Cup games in a lot of these countries. Listen to Record Sport's newest podcast, Game On, every Friday for your sporting fix, all in bitesize chunks.

‘He could come in and hurt us' – Rangers hero Ally McCoist opens up on the potential Celtic signing he fears most
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ALLY McCoist says he's a 'big fan' of a Celtic-linked player, calling him 'one to watch'. Talk of a huge move for the highly rated youngster has persisted for some time since his Premier League breakthrough. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Rangers hero Ally McCoist has discussed a Celtic-linked player he's a 'big fan' of Credit: Getty 2 He thinks Ireland and Brighton striker Evan Ferguson could 'hurt' Rangers Credit: Sportsfile Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, most recently on loan at West Ham, has previously been on trial with the Hoops but nothing ever came of it. But the 20-year-old's name has remained in the frame for a potential Parkhead loan deal, as well as attracting interest from English giants Arsenal. And Rangers hero Ally McCoist has glowed over the Irishman, speaking about him in Dublin as he took part in a 555-mile charity cycle. He said: 'I'm a fan. Oh aye. 'I want him to get fit. I really like Evan Ferguson and I really want him to get fit and stay fit." He has had a few mostly minor injuries keeping him in and out of the squad, as well as a bigger issue that saw him crocked from April last year to the beginning of the following season. McCoist continued: 'He can finish. Out of all the younger ones coming through, I thought Evan Ferguson was the one to watch. 'Obviously he's got one or two injuries going on that have held him back a bit, but if he keeps himself fit he will score goals anywhere. 'The unfortunate thing for my mob is, he could come in and hurt us. Definitely. "It wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm a big fan.' Ally McCoist confesses to 'horrendous' epic fail ahead of final day of Rangers legend's charity bike ride The ex-Gers player and manager's worry of a prolific derby goalscorer against his side comes as the Celts have struggled in the last few outings. The most recent was a 1-1 draw and the prior two ties ended in victory for the Ibrox side. However Celtic did win the League Cup final on penalties and last year's Scottish Cup final against their bitter rivals. The latter saw just one goal scored late on by Adam Idah, who would possibly fall out of the team if Evan Ferguson were to arrive. But McCoist believes the 24-year-old has done enough to earn praise despite some struggles. He said: 'He's done well. He has scored important goals. 'I think one thing you have got to do as an Old Firm centre forward is, sure, you have to get goals. 'But as an Old Firm centre-forward, you have got to score against Rangers. And if you are a centre-forward for Rangers you have got to score against Celtic. 'You have got to score important goals and Adam Idah has done that.'
