Paddy Pimblett chasing Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira title winner after UFC 317

UFC star Paddy Pimblett has ambitious goals for his fighting career.
Paddy Pimblett wants to be more than just a big name in MMA. He wants to make history, and become one of the few fighters to win UFC titles in two different weight classes.
Pimblett's ambitious plan is one that he had long before joining the UFC. During his early days at Cage Warriors, Pimblett won and defended the Cage Warriors featherweight title, and then challenged for the promotion's lightweight belt, but unfortunately came up short. He wants to replicate the same now in the UFC, but this time with 100 percent success.
"I want to eventually go for two belts, but I want to get a legacy in my own division," Pimblett told MMA Junkie. "I'd like to defend the belt two or three times and then go for the welterweight belt."
Pimblett is not far from UFC gold at 155 pounds. He's currently undefeated in the UFC with seven straight wins. Pimblett's most recent triumph in the octagon came in April, when he stopped former Bellator champion Michael Chandler.
Pimblett feels he's one win away from getting his opportunity at the belt, and he doesn't care who he fights between Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira, who are set to fight for the vacant lightweight title in the main event of Saturday's UFC 317.
"It doesn't matter. I'm always coming after the champ, so whoever wins (Saturday) night, that's who I'm going after," Pimblett said. "That's what you have to prepare for, to fight the champ. I'm not concerned about anything. Whatever fight I get offered, I'll take that fight, and then I'll be going for the title."

UFC 317 results: Ilia Topuria quickly KOs Charles Oliveira, shoves Paddy Pimblett

Ilia Topuria has gold around his waist once again. In the UFC 317 main event Saturday, Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) knocked out Charles Oliveira in 2:27 and claimed a championship – this time, at lightweight. The fight was wild for as long as it lasted. Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) was cut in the opening minute. When he tried to drag the fight to the canvas, Topuria reversed his attempt and landed on top. Oliveira attempted a heel hook, which Topuria wiggled away from. Back on the feet, Topuria cracked him with a straight right hand that instantly snatched Oliveira's consciousness from him. Two more follow-up shots smashed Oliveira's face before the fight was waved off. After the fight, the UFC had Topuria rival (and next title challenger?) Paddy Pimblett enter the cage for a faceoff. The two exchanged words before Topuria shoved him backward. Topuria, 28, won the UFC featherweight title in October. He vacated the title months later, citing weight cut issues. A breakthrough star in the Spanish and Georgian markets, Topuria became the first undefeated fighter to win a second UFC title. Oliveira, 35, moves to 2-3 in his most recent five bouts. Saturday's loss is his first knockout/TKO defeat since December 2017. Up-to-the-minute UFC 317 results:

Fighters react to Ilia Topuria's historic UFC 317 title win, Paddy Pimblett faceoff

Ilia Topuria added further greatness to his growing legacy at UFC 317 on Saturday when he defeated Charles Oliveira to claim the vacant lightweight belt. In the wake of Islam Makhachev's departure from the weight class and relinquishing the belt, former featherweight champ Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) moved up and became the first in history to win titles in two weight classes with an undefeated record. The moment came courtesy of a first-round knockout of Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) in the headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
