Vadodara to host men's ODI after 16 years!
Vadodara: The 16-year-long wait for cricket-loving Barodians is finally set to end. The city will host a men's one-day international (ODI) at the Kotambi International Cricket Stadium.

The BCCI has scheduled the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Vadodara on Jan 11, 2026.
Coincidentally, the last ODI played in the city in 2010 was also between India and New Zealand at the Reliance Stadium. India won the match by nine wickets.
"It is a matter of privilege for a venue to be chosen to host an international cricket match in any format. The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is honoured as it has been given an opportunity to host the India-New Zealand ODI," said Pranav Amin, BCA president.
The BCCI recently announced its cricketing calendar for the rest of the year, but Vadodara didn't figure on the list of venues for any international men's cricket match in 2025. Sources in the BCA said that Amin took up the matter with the BCCI and requested the senior officials to consider the city as a venue for the men's ODI or international T20 match, as the city now has a brand new international cricket stadium.
BCA officials said that the city will now be regularly allotted ODIs and international T20 matches.
The city has in the past hosted 10 ODIs at Reliance Stadium. However, the BCCI brought in a rule that mandated the state cricket associations to own a stadium for hosting international matches. The BCA didn't have a stadium of its own and hence missed out on several opportunities to host ODIs, T20 internationals, and IPL matches over the last 16 years.
The cricket stadium was a major poll issue in the BCA for nearly 20 years, and the association even made a few attempts to buy land for constructing a stadium.

The deals, though, failed. The BCA finally managed to buy a piece of land at Kotambi in 2014, but the stadium project kept hanging in the balance amid controversies and differences within the BCA management. Construction of the stadium, which has a capacity of 35,000 spectators, finally took off in 2020.
In December 2024, the Rs 250-crore Kotambi stadium hosted an India-West Indies women's ODI, which was followed by Women's Premier League T20 matches this year.

How many bowlers can you name that have bowled to both Tendulkar and Kohli, let alone dominate them? There's only one. Ander-freaking-son. The former England pacer had multiple battles with Tendulkar and Kohli, of course, during different stages of his career. In fact, more than Tendulkar, his face-offs against Kohli made engaging headlines in the 2010s. 15 Test matches across eight years. That's how much history Kohli and Anderson shared. Recalling his battles against Kohli and Tendulkar, when asked who is the most difficult batter to bowl to, Anderson picked Virat. Anderson and Kohli had a go at each other on numerous instances, none more so talked about than what transpired four years ago during the Lord's Test. After Jasprit Bumrah had peppered Anderson with six short-pitched deliveries in an over, and then some, the England pacer responded with a few verbal volleys. So much so that Kohli, while at the non-striker end, told Anderson 'You swearing at me? Just like you did against Jasprit? This isn't your fu**ing backyard." With Tendulkar, things weren't as hot-headed. "Kohli was a slightly different character than Sachin. Sachin was very mild, mannered; very calm at the crease. Virat was more expressive with his emotions. Wore them on his sleeves and you can kind of see it. In his captaincy, when he celebrated his wickets. I tried as much as I could to get that feeling out of the equation and just try to think of him as a batter and not too much about who it was. It was difficult at times; we had many battles on the field," pointed out Anderson. "I definitely had more verbal battles with Virat than with Sachin. With Sachin I tried not to. He was certainly at a different stage in his career when I played against him. He had this sort of God-like presence, and how he was held in India. It was incredible how the fans treated him and looked up to him. But as Virat's career went on, that became more and more like that for him. D. Deepesh and Naman Pushpak drafted into India U19 squad for England tour
D. Deepesh and Naman Pushpak have been drafted into India men's U19 squad for the upcoming tour of England, scheduled to happen from June 24 to July 23. Both Deepesh and Naman were part of the standby players' list for the tour, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said the duo come into the main squad as replacements for Aditya Rana and Khilan Patel. Gautam Gambhir's mother stable, coach to rejoin squad in England on June 17: Report
Head coach Gautam Gambhir is all set to rejoin the Indian team in Leeds on Tuesday, 17 June, three days ahead of the first Test in a five-match series against England.
