UK Seizes over 2 Tons of Cocaine Worth £96 Mln at London Port
British authorities have
announced
the seizure of 2.4 metric tons of cocaine at London Gateway port, one of the largest drug interceptions in the country's history. The estimated street value of the narcotics stands at £96 million.
According to the UK Home Office, this operation ranks as the sixth-largest cocaine seizure ever recorded in the United Kingdom.
The drugs were discovered concealed beneath dozens of shipping containers aboard a vessel arriving from Panama, a known transit hub for international narcotics trafficking.
The interdiction was carried out earlier this month by specialist officers from the UK Border Force, who worked in coordination with the port operator to relocate 37 large containers in order to reach the illicit cargo.
Authorities emphasized the strategic significance of this interception. Container ships remain a key method used by transnational criminal networks to smuggle cocaine into the United Kingdom. This seizure reflects the growing sophistication of British border security efforts.
Charlie Eastaugh, Director of Maritime Operations at UK Border Force, highlighted that the operation exemplifies the agency's proactive stance in combating organized crime. British law enforcement is increasingly leveraging intelligence-sharing and cross-border cooperation to identify and dismantle international drug networks.
The United Kingdom remains one of Europe's largest cocaine markets, with cocaine-related fatalities in England and Wales rising by 31% between 2022 and 2023, according to official government data. The National Crime Agency (NCA) continues to warn that the country is a major target for global narcotics traffickers.

US-led coalition captures a senior Islamic State member in Syria - Region
A US-led coalition captured a senior member of the Islamic State group in northwest Syria on Wednesday, state media and a war monitor reported. It was not immediately clear if the man is the IS supreme leader. The US military did not respond to a request for comment by The Associated Press. The operation that included landing troops from helicopters occurred before dawn in Atmeh town near the Turkish border, and an IS commander known as Abu Hafs al-Qurayshi, an Iraqi citizen, was taken away while another Iraqi citizen was killed, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Observatory said the man captured had a French-speaking woman with him, and it was not immediately clear if she was taken by the U.S. force or by Syrian security forces who later cordoned the area. Two years ago, IS announced that a man called Abu Hafs al-Hashemi al-Qurayshi was named as its new leader after Turkish authorities killed his predecessor. Syrian state TV on Wednesday quoted an unnamed security official as saying the Iraqi man targeted in the operation is known as Ali, adding that his real name is Salah Noman. It said Noman was living in an apartment with his wife, son and mother. It said he was killed in the raid. There was no immediate clarification for the difference in names reported by state media and the war monitor. IS broke away from al-Qaida more than a decade ago and attracted supporters from around the world after it declared a so-called caliphate in 2014 in large parts of Syria and Iraq. Despite its defeat in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria two years later, IS militants still carry out deadly attacks in both countries and elsewhere. Al-Qurayshi is not the real name of IS leaders but comes from Quraish, the name of the tribe to which Islam's Prophet Muhammad belonged. IS claims its leaders hail from the tribe, and 'al-Qurayshi' is part of their nom de guerre. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Erdogan tells Putin Turkey backs Ukraine peace talks involving 'all parties': Presidency - War in Ukraine
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday informed his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin by phone that Turkey would support a process involving "all parties" for peace in Ukraine, the Turkish presidency said. Erdogan told Putin that "Turkey has sincerely strived for a just peace since the beginning of the war, and in this context, supports approaches aimed at establishing lasting peace with the participation of all parties," his office said in a statement. Turkey, which enjoys friendly ties with both its Black Sea neighbors, has hosted three rounds of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia since May. Ankara has often insisted on the protection of Ukraine's territorial integrity while shying away from Western sanctions on Russia. US President Donald Trump held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders in Washington on Monday, three days after his landmark encounter with Putin in Alaska. NATO head Mark Rutte called Erdogan on Tuesday by phone on his way back to Europe after that meeting, the Turkish presidency said. The pair discussed "Turkey's contribution to the peace process, as one of NATO's most important countries" and agreed to remain on close coordination, according to the presidency. They also exchanged views on feasible and sustainable security guarantees, the statement said, without further elaboration. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

US Poll Shows Majority Support Recognition of Palestinian State
Israa Farhan A new Reuters/Ipsos poll has revealed that 58 percent of Americans believe all United Nations member states should recognize Palestine as an independent state. The findings come as Israel and Hamas weigh the possibility of a ceasefire in the conflict that has raged for nearly two years. The six-day survey, which concluded last Monday, coincided with announcements from Canada, Britain, and France confirming their plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state. This diplomatic shift has added further pressure on Israel amid worsening hunger and humanitarian conditions in Gaza. International attention remains fixed on whether Israel and Hamas can finalize a deal for a 60-day ceasefire. Such an agreement would halt hostilities, enable the release of around half of the remaining Israeli hostages, and open the way for increased humanitarian aid deliveries. Several allies of the United States, including Britain, Canada, and Australia, warned last week that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels. Relief organizations have echoed these concerns, warning that the enclave's population is on the brink of famine. The UN Human Rights Office has stated that Israel is not allowing sufficient supplies into Gaza to prevent widespread hunger. Israel, however, rejects responsibility, claiming that Hamas has diverted aid shipments. The poll found that 65 percent of Americans believe the United States should take direct measures to help civilians in Gaza facing starvation, while 28 percent opposed such action. Furthermore, 59 percent of respondents said Israel's military response in Gaza has been excessive, compared with 33 percent who disagreed. In a similar Ipsos survey conducted in February 2024, 53 percent considered Israel's actions excessive, while 42 percent disagreed. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
