Documentary film 'Searching for Choti' shines at Ecoreels Film Festival 2025
New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Director Chandra Mouli Mallampalli's short documentary "Searching for Choti" was screened at the Ecoreels Film Festival 2025, held in New Delhi from June 6 to 8. The film, which was screened on June 7, offers a soulful meditation on India's rapidly disappearing wildlife and human stories entwined within it. The narrative follows Subhash Behera and Mallampalli as they set out in pursuit of one of India's rarest and least understood wild felines, fishing cats, one of the rarest wild cats of India. The story of the film also shows why it is important to maintain balance with nature. Internationally recognised, the film won Best Short Film Award in the 'Nature and Wildlife' category at the International Motion Picture Awards (Canada). Cinematographer Giridhar Nayak's lens captures the essence of the Chilika Lake region in haunting, poetic frames. Talking about 'Searching for Choti' Mallampalli shared, 'This film looks at how wetlands like Chilika support both wildlife and local communities and how that balance is now at risk. With less freshwater and a rise in intensive farming, the landscape is changing.' Revealing his motive behind the drama, the director added, 'Through this film, I hope to highlight how protecting wetlands and communities goes hand in hand.' Mallampalli's fascination with nature and wildlife began in childhood and he has consistently sought to tell compelling stories rooted in ecological reality. He started his career by working at places like National Geographic and BBC, where he got the inspiration to make films based on true stories. Mallampalli and Nayak have also collaborated on another documentary, Mandala, directed by Nayak and produced by Mallampalli, which explores human-snake conflict and snakebite deaths along Maharashtra's Konkan coast. How a Pat Cummins picture with TV host Jeremy Clarkson got Aussie, English fans throwing sandpaper, Murray Mints online disses at each other
In a strange aligning, as per Twitrer handle Merovaeous all of these cricket teams – India, England, Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and West Indies are currently camped in UK. But in a prelude to the World Test Championship, Australia captain Pat Cummins was spotted on a Twitter post by famous TV host Jeremy Clarkson, saying, 'Hey Australia, look who I've stolen.' Clarkson, former host of Top Gear and The Grand Tour has a sleeper hit reality TV farm show Clarksons Farm on OTT, currently in its 4th season. It is extremely popular among Americans and takes place on a 1,000-acre Oxfordshire farm called Diddly Squat. The show rivalled BBC's 30-year-old farm show Countryfile (like Indian Aamchi Martínez, Aamchi mansa), and acquired a cult following since 2021. Pat Cummins, in UK for the World Test Championship, might have dropped in to feature in one of the episodes, went the speculation. The OxfordMail reported, 'Despite being regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, having taken almost 300 Test wickets, people in the comments mistook him for Tom Cruise. Mr Clarkson is well known for disliking cricket, but the latest season of Clarkson's Farm showed him getting willow trees planted which will eventually be used to make cricket bats.' While Americans were befuddled and intrigued over who he was – Cummins, that is – and the usual 'introduction to cricket' jokes followed, the thread set off another predictable bantering exchange – between English and Aussie cricket fans. The handle, Jason Nevett took the first potshots: 'You can tell he is Ozzie cricketer by the sand paper they always carry.' A David Moore handle responded with, 'Just as the Poms carry Murray Mints.' That was a reference to jelly beans and Mints that the English bowlers get saddled with for using allegedly to work the ball for reverse swing. Sandpapergate is of course well accounted for the controversy it triggered. The Nevett handle kept darting at responses with various version of sandpaper ripostes. The handle Kaotic entered the chat and declared, 'Cheers mate, Don't forget to tune into us and South Africa playing for the world test championship in your backyard.' England's Bazballers never seem to qualify for WTC, though it always gets hosted in UK. Yet another 'will have sandpaper on standby for yas' from Nevett, had Kaotic quipping, '30 grit please…Although it will do you no good as you would be spectating the final as usual.' His slightly predictable comeback next time to being called 'cheaters' was 'No count back to this final' with a picture of Australia winning the last WTC mace. A few Twitter users also commented that the man with Clarkson was Tom Cruise, 'looking younger.' Sine not-so-bright Aussies asked Clarkson to keep Cummins on the farm, because he was 'woke'. English fans, dreading an Ashes peppering later in the year, requested Clarkson to push him into the bull ring and other assorted sabotage techniques, all in good humour though. Hopefully.

Sidhu Moosewala's father writes to Mumbai Police to stop the proposed screening of a documentary about his son on June 11
Bathinda: The father of slain Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala has called on Mumbai Police to block the public screening of a BBC documentary about his son's murder, alleging it could compromise the ongoing trial and infringe upon the family's rights. Balkaur Singh, father of the late artist — whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu — has filed formal complaints with the Mumbai Police commissioner and Juhu police station, urging authorities to stop the screening scheduled for June 11 at Soho House, Juhu. The event, organised by the BBC World Service, is being advertised as an "investigative documentary" that claims to reveal hidden details about Moosewala's killing. Moosewala's father has also expressed concern that the film includes "unauthorised and unpublished" material, including private testimonies and sensitive information related to his son's life and death. He writes in his complaint that the documentary uses Moosewala's name, image and personal history without family consent, and could prejudice the ongoing murder trial. "The screening could misrepresent and exploit my son's story, interfere with judicial proceedings, and provoke public unrest due to the sensitive subject matter," Balkaur Singh wrote, warning the public that the film might violate Indian legal protections on privacy, defamation, and posthumous dignity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Effortless Glucose Monitoring: Request a Free Trial Dexcom Click Here Undo Enclosing a copy of the invitation, Balkaur Singh said the screening was set to run from 3 to 6 pm on June 11, and called for police intervention, including the deployment of officers at the venue and the issuance of prohibitory orders under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) or other applicable laws. He also claimed to be preparing civil and legal action against the film's producers and organisers. However, he emphasised that immediate steps were needed to "safeguard the dignity and legacy" of his late son and prevent the circulation of "unlawful or defamatory content." Sidhu Moosewala was shot during May 2022 in Punjab's Mansa district. His killing triggered public outrage and remains the subject of a high-profile criminal investigation. MSID:: 121696740 413 |
