India's Apollo Hospitals beats estimates for Q1 profit on strong demand
HYDERABAD: India's Apollo Hospitals Enterprise on Tuesday reported its fifth straight quarterly profit rise, beating analysts' estimates on higher demand for its healthcare services. The hospital chain operator reported a consolidated net profit that rose 41.8% to 4.33 billion rupees ($49.40 million) for the April-June quarter. Analysts, on average, had expected of 3.86 billion rupees, according to data compiled by LSEG. Indian hospital chains such as Apollo and Manipal have been increasing their bed count for a larger share of the market, including through acquisitions of smaller hospital operators. Temasek-backed Manipal acquired a majority stake in local peer Sahyadri Hospitals last month. Apollo said it is on track to add 4,370 beds over the next 3-4 years through acquisition, setting up new hospitals, aswell as expansion of existing facilities. The hospital operator had 8,030 operational beds as of June 30. Occupancy rate for the quarter, however, saw a slight dip to 65% from 68% last year. Total revenue for the first quarter rose 15% to 58.42 billion rupees beating estimates of 57.44 billion rupees, aided by a 12% growth in the healthcare services business that contributes more than half of the total revenue. The company expects double-digit revenue growth for the current financial year. Its offline pharmacy and digital healthcare business reported a 19% rise in revenue. Apollo spun off the business recently and aims to list it as a separate entity in the next 18-21 months.

India's Nifty, Sensex suffer longest weekly losing streak in five years on trade, earnings fears
India's equity benchmarks fell on Friday, posting their sixth straight weekly loss as U.S. tariffs, trade uncertainty and muted earnings dampened sentiment. The Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex dropped 0.95% each to 24,363.3 points and 79,857.79, respectively. For the week, they shed 0.8% and 0.9%, respectively. This would be their longest losing streak since April 2020. Losses were broad-based, with 13 of 16 major sectors ending the week in the red. Small-cap and mid-cap indexes declined 1.4% and 1.1%. IT and pharma indexes lost 0.7% and 2.8%, while financials and energy fell 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively. Investor sentiment remained fragile amid ongoing uncertainty over a potential U.S.-India trade deal and underwhelming earnings. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump ruled out further talks until the tariff dispute is resolved. This followed a move to double tariffs to 50%, citing India's oil imports from Russia. 'Prolonged tariff tensions and relentless foreign selling—totaling $3.47 billion since early July—have injected a fresh wave of volatility and caution into Indian markets,' said Manish Goel, founder and MD at Equentis Wealth Advisory Services. India stock benchmarks set to open higher on proposed Trump-Putin meeting Among individual stocks, Adani Enterprises fell 7.4% this week, extending losses after posting disappointing quarterly results on July 31. Textile exporters including KPR Mill, Gokaldas Exports, Vardhman Textiles, and Trident fell 4.2%-12.1% after the U.S. hiked duties on Indian imports. In contrast, Hero MotoCorp surged 6.7% for the week, topping the Nifty 50 after a surprise earnings beat, aided by stronger exports. On the day, LIC gained 3.2% on a quarterly profit rise. Bharti Airtel dropped 3.3% on multiple block deals at a discount. 'Markets are also adjusting to the RBI's message that the economy should not expect too much incremental support from monetary policy measures for now,' said Sandeep Bagla, CEO of TRUST Mutual Fund. The RBI held rates steady on Wednesday but flagged tariff-related risks to the economy.

India's Adani Enterprises' public debt issue oversubscribed on launch day, bankers say
MUMBAI: Indian billionaire Gautam Adani's flagship firm saw strong demand for its second public bond issue in less than a year, with the offering oversubscribed on launch day, three merchant bankers said on Wednesday. Adani Enterprises plans to raise up to 10 billion rupees ($116.7 million) through the sale of two-, three- and five-year bonds. The issue opened for subscription earlier in the day and received bids worth 15 billion rupees as of 5 p.m. IST, the bankers said. It will now close on Friday, ahead of its earlier schedule of July 22, Adani Enterprises said in a public notice. 'We think the company will tap this market on a regular basis considering the strong response,' one of the bankers said. They are directly involved in the issue and requested anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the media. Adani Enterprises to sell 2-5 year debt at public bond sale next week Adani Enterprises will pay an annual coupon of between 8.95% and 9.30%, they said. Corporates led demand for the issue, followed by high net-worth individuals and retail investors, they added. This is India's biggest public issue in 14 months and comes after a subdued first quarter where firms were able to raise only about 15 billion rupees. Nuvama Wealth Management, Trust Investment Advisors and Tip Sons Consultancy Services are the lead managers for the issue. Adani Enterprises did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Last September, the company raised 8 billion rupees in its debut public issue, offering yields 30-60 basis points higher across tenors. Adani Enterprises was able to garner over 7 billion rupees in bids on the first day until 5:00 p.m. IST last year.
