Michelin adds three new L.A. restaurants to the 2025 California guide
The official Michelin Guide ceremony won't happen in Sacramento until June 25, but the multinational tire company just added another three notable L.A. County restaurants to the guide. All additions are considered 'recommended' and could go on to receive either a Michelin star or Bib Gourmand (the guide's budget-friendly category) later this year.
In greater Los Angeles, three restaurants made the guide: Komal, a masa-focused street stall in South L.A.'s Mercado La Paloma from two Holbox alums. The second is Somni in West Hollywood, the most expensive restaurant in Los Angeles. Founded by Jose Andrés in 2018, the Spanish-leaning modernist tasting menu held two Michelin stars in its previous iteration. Last fall, former day-to-day lead Aitor Zabala revived Somni as an independent project. The third is Vin Folk, a tiny South Bay bistro run by two Somni alums serving casual bistro dishes with fine dining flare and an impeccable wine list.
Elsewhere across the state, Michelin recognized restaurants like Sungho, a homey Korean spot in San Francisco and Atelier Manna in Encinitas, which the guide describes as a 'hipster haven' with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Three more restaurants down in San Diego County made the cut: Tanner's Prime Burger and 24 Suns in Oceanside, as well as Lilo in Carlsbad.
Two months ago, Michelin added seven other L.A. restaurants to the guide. Among them were East Hollywood's Bar Etoile, West L.A. omakase counter Mori Nozomi and Westchester's Tomat.
In alphabetical order, the ten L.A. area restaurants added to the Michelin guide this year are as follows, with full inspector notes available via the Michelin website. All restaurants are within city limits unless otherwise specified; we've noted which are new additions and linked to Time Out's write-ups for each. We have also included our own star designations, where applicable, with brackets.

One Love Island star has left the ITV villa after bosses learned of his past arrest. After being quizzed by police, he was released with no further action. Speaking on his exit, Kyle said: "I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation." ITV also released a statement on his departure saying: "For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned. Staffordshire Police had previously said: 'We were called to a social club on Riverway, Stafford, at 7.40pm on Friday, February 28 following reports that someone had been glassed outside and a fight was taking place. Some of the men involved were wearing masks and were carrying weapons. 'Two men went to hospital after suffering injuries at the scene. Both have since been discharged. A man and a woman suffered minor injuries at the scene but did not want any medical treatment. 'Officers have reviewed CCTV footage and have been actively carrying out enquiries to find out more about what happened. A 22-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of wounding and affray. Another man, also 22 and from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of affray. 'Both were questioned in custody and bailed with conditions while our enquiries continue.' The police later confirmed both suspects were released with no further action last month. Meanwhile, when Kyle was meant to enter the villa, he shared his expectations from the show and shared how he flirted with women. He said: "I just go with it, find something to compliment a girl on and go from there." The star went on to say he was looking for "someone that's fun, confident and just themselves".

Wrexham player who was at Arsenal gets brutal reality check from David Raya
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has issued a warning over the challenges of playing in the second tier as Wrexham ready themselves for the next level after three successive promotion David Raya has issued a cautionary note that former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo would be wise to take into account ahead of Wrexham 's Championship campaign next season. Okonkwo made a name for himself after progressing through the Gunners' academy during his youth career. He made his first senior appearances on loan at Crewe Alexandra in League Two during the 2022/23 season and also had a stint in Austria with Sturm Graz. The gifted keeper joined Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in September 2023 and impressed as Phil Parkinson 's team secured automatic promotion from the fourth tier. Okonkwo then permanently signed for the North Wales club, owned by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, last summer. The 23-year-old was instrumental in the team achieving a third consecutive promotion from League One in April, keeping 19 clean sheets during the 2024/25 campaign. However, current Arsenal No.1 Raya has now warned about the difficulty of playing in the Championship, describing it as tougher for goalkeepers than even the Premier League. The Spanish international is well acquainted with those challenges, having starred in the second tier with Blackburn Rovers and Brentford. Raya discussed the mental and physical tests which await Okonkwo while appearing on the Fozcast podcast, hosted by former Wrexham and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster. "It's so much different [playing in the Championship] and you get kicked everywhere," Raya said. "Every throw-in is going into the six-yard box, with eight or nine monsters just going straight into you. "Obviously in the Premier League there are more quality players but when it gets to physicality, there's a lot more games [in the Championship] as well. That mental and physical side of playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday for the whole season is so, so tough and it's one of the hardest leagues in the world." Foster, who won the National League title with Wrexham, backed Raya's view that the physical demands of the Championship are unparalleled. He said: "I totally agree. I think, as a goalkeeper, playing in the Championship is harder than playing in the Premier League. You need to have more about you. You've got to be physically stronger and physicality comes into it a lot more in the Championship. "If you go further down the leagues into the National League, League Two, even League One, I think there's Premier League goalkeepers right now that would not be able to play in those leagues. Even in the Championship, I think you've got to be more rounded to survive." While he's now well-settled after propelling his team to two promotions, Okonwko confessed that his initial days at Wrexham were a bit of a mystery. During an appearance on the Amanpour and Company TV series on PBS, he said: "When my agents told me about the opportunity, I did have to search 'where is Wrexham' and that's me being honest. I knew they were in the EFL and I knew a bit about the club, but I didn't know how well they were doing. "The owners are so well known and when they're calling you, it still feels surreal. It's all been an interesting, and slightly weird, journey. I always knew that Wrexham was the right move for me [last summer]. Toni Nadal has suggested that Carlos Alcaraz should retire from playing tennis if he is unable to deal with the pressures of the sport, after hearing about the young sensation's antics in his Netflix docu-series Toni Nadal, the uncle and former coach of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, suggested that Carlos Alcaraz should quit tennis if he can't cope with the sport's pressures. Speaking on the Nude Project podcast, Toni discussed his nephew's retirement before turning his attention to Alcaraz's Netflix docu-series, which revealed his off-court life, including a party trip to Ibiza weeks before Wimbledon. Alcaraz said in the series: "I ended up going and they know what I'm going there to do. In Ibiza, I'm not going to lie, it's pretty much all about partying and going out. "I basically went there to reventar [literally, 'burst' in Spanish], I'm not sure if that's the best way to put it, but I went there to go out." Despite not having watched the show, Toni didn't hold back in his critique of the world No. 2's behaviour, saying: "If it is too much for him, then he should quit tennis. I understand things differently in life. "In the world of sports, everything tends to be exaggerated. I've often heard about the sacrifice in sports, the sacrifices made by Real Madrid athletes, and I would say: 'Sacrifice?' "Life is about making choices, not just doing what I want. Sometimes it's worth it for people, and sometimes it's not. If it's not worth it for you, it's better to change jobs." He added (via the Express): "I hope Alcaraz doesn't change jobs because he's one of the best in the world, but one has to take on the challenge. "One must accept that things in life will involve a series of compromises. I don't talk about sacrifices because I think that sacrifice is what you do for others. "When you do it for yourself, it's the price you have to pay. Alcaraz, being a great tennis player, indeed pays a price. "But on the other hand, he earns much more money than the vast majority of young people his age, has much greater social recognition, and experiences things that few people do... but if it's not worth it for you, better make a decision." Alcaraz has already amassed an enviable collection of Grand Slam titles, including two Wimbledon victories, a French Open, and a US Open. And while there have been comparisons between Alcaraz and Nadal - who secured 22 Grand Slams during his glorious career - there is still work to be done before the two can truly be compared. Alcaraz has his eyes set on another title this May as he continues to wow at Roland Garros. Following victories over Giulio Zeppieri, Fabian Marozsan, Damir Dzumhur and Ben Shelton, the 22-year-old has reached the quarter-finals. To move into the semis, Alcaraz needs a win over the world's current No. 12, Tommy Paul. Tennis fans can watch Alcaraz and Paul go head-to-head at 7:15pm at the Court Philippe-Chatrier on Tuesday.
