Gary Haveron makes his feelings known as Nathan Rooney returns as Larne manager

Yahoo26-05-2025

Gary Haveron has let his feelings be known after he vacated his role as Larne manager to allow Nathan Rooney to return to the position.
Haveron took over the reins at Inver Park after the newly-appointed Rooney was found not to have the necessary licence to allow him to lead Larne in the UEFA Conference League despite being appointed as Tiernan Lynch's successor just three weeks earlier.
Rooney was then installed as the club's head of football with Haveron moving into the managerial position as he led the Invermen to a second placed finish in the Irish Premiership.

Englishman Rooney has since been enrolled on to his Pro Licence course which allows him to return to his original role with Haveron only too happy to step aside.
"I have no doubt Nathan will be a top manager for this club and that there are good times ahead," said Haveron, who will become Rooney's assistant once more.
"I have always said that I am hereto do whatever the club needs me to and, truth be told, I am delighted to be moving back into my role as assistant manager, something I feel I am well suited to.
"Nathan and myself have built a strong relationship over the last six months and I'm really looking forward to continue learning from him, as well as working alongside the rest of the coaching staff at the club."
Rooney, who arrived at Inver Park from Gibraltar side Bruno's Magpies, paid tribute to Haveron.
"I want to express my thanks to Gary Haveron who has been a great professional to work alongside and his work ethic to keep pushing the team has been second to none – I thank him for his support throughout this period," he said.
"Gary will continue to play a major role as an experienced professional who is highly thought of in the local area and the Irish Premiership.
"It has been a period of change for us all, including our amazing fanbase, who has continued to bring the noise and energy to every matchday since my arrival
"Our job now is to hit the ground running in pre-season, develop our younger players, implement a playing style which can be exciting to watch and provide an energy which brings us all together on and off the pitch and we will see where it takes us."

Bayern Munich open talks with Manchester United for Antony, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid also interested

Bayern Munich open talks with Manchester United for Antony, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid also interested Manchester United plan to reinforce Ruben Amorim's squad after a disappointing last season by raising capital through the sales of stars who spent last season out on loan, like Antony. The Brazilian enjoyed a sensational six-month spell at Real Betis, netting nine times while also registering five assists in only 26 games and carrying the Spanish side to the UEFA Conference League final. Advertisement They were keen to try and hold on to the Brazil international but were offering another loan deal, something the Red Devils are in no mood to entertain. INEOS feel, given Antony's current form, this might be the best time to sell him given the interest he is generating all across Europe. Antony sale on the cards They have slapped a transfer fee of €50 million on the 25-year-old's head which Betis are unlikely to be able to afford anytime soon. Atletico Madrid and surprisingly, Arsenal are also keen on the United star. Now, as per ESPN Brazil (via TZ), Bayern Munich have also joined the race and will have to compete with domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen for the ex-Ajax star. Advertisement Leverkusen, who have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new boss, are pushing for another reunion with the winger after choosing to bring him to Old Trafford from Amsterdam for a mammoth €95 million. Three-way battle following Bayern Munich's entry They plan to use the money raised from Florian Wirtz's sale to try and secure Antony's signing. The report also states that the Bavarian giants have begun talks with the Red Devils, enquiring about the terms of a potential transfer while Atletico are also in no mood to back down. The increased interest will suit INEOS, who will be looking to initiate a bidding war to try and secure the highest fee possible from his sale. Jadon Sancho: Chelsea to pay £5m penalty fee after transfer decision on Manchester United winger

Future uncertain: Jadon Sancho will not stay on at Chelsea (Getty Images) Jadon Sancho will return to Manchester United after Chelsea failed to agree terms to sign the Englishman on a permanent deal. Sancho spent this season on loan with the Blues, who had an obligation to buy him for £25million if they finished in the top 14 of the Premier League table. Advertisement Because Chelsea finished fourth, that clause came into effect. However, they could not agree personal terms with Sancho. Chelsea were unwilling to inherit his inflated wages at United, and a salary that fit within the Blues' incentive-driven wage structure could not be agreed upon. He will leave on June 30 upon the expiry of his loan contract. Chelsea will pay United a penalty fee of £5m for failing to adhere to their obligation to buy. Sancho scored five goals and contributed 10 assists in 41 appearances for Chelsea, including finding the net in the Conference League final last month when they beat Real Betis 4-1 in Wroclaw to win their first silverware since February 2022. Advertisement He will be allowed to assess his options this month, with his future at United still uncertain. Sancho will not play at the Club World Cup, and Chelsea are hoping to sign a right-footed left winger before beginning their campaign in the United States later this month. Standard Sport reported on Monday that Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens is a player of interest and they are weighing up submitting a bid following talks. They also have United's Alejandro Garnacho and the Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams on their list. The Blues are set to announce the signing of Ipswich striker Liam Delap, having triggered his relegation release clause of £30m.

Martin hired as Rangers manager and handed a big task: Regain the Scottish title from Celtic

Associated Press Six months after being fired by Southampton, Russell Martin crossed the border to take over as manager of Scottish giant Rangers on Thursday and tasked with regaining the league title from fierce Glasgow rival Celtic. Martin guided Southampton to promotion to the Premier League last year but left in December following one win from the team's first 16 games. The 39-year-old Martin has secured a quick return to management at Rangers, going back to a club where he spent a half season on loan in 2018. 'From my time here, I had a taste of how special this club is, the expectation, the passion and the history,' Martin said. 'Now, as I return, I'm determined to bring success back, for the supporters, the players, and everyone inside this club. There's a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: win matches, win trophies and give Rangers fans a team that they can be proud of.' Rangers finished last season under the caretaker management of its former captain, Barry Ferguson, after firing Frenchman Philippe Clement in February. Appointing Martin — an Englishman who played international soccer for Scotland — is the latest big move by Rangers after a U.S.-based consortium, which includes an investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers, purchased a majority ownership stake in the club. Health insurance entrepreneur Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises led a consortium of investors to have bought a 51% stake. A new sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, officially began work at Rangers on Monday. Celtic's stranglehold on Scottish soccer has just continued with a 13th Premiership title in 14 seasons. Rangers won the only other title in that period, under Steven Gerrard in the 2020-21 season. Rangers and Celtic now have 55 Scottish league titles each. ___ AP soccer: recommended in this topic
