Ro-Ro on rail service from Kolad to Verna

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), which has offered Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) services in India since 1999, has now extended this innovative freight solution to private car owners with the launch of a new Ro-Ro service between Kolad, Maharashtra, and Verna in Goa.
The new Ro-Ro car service will commence on Aug 23 from Kolad and Aug 24 from Verna and will operate on alternate days in each direction until Sep 11. It will run end-to-end between Kolad and Verna, with departures at 5pm and arrivals at 5am the following day. Customers must report at the starting station by 2pm, three hours prior to departure.
The specially designed rake can accommodate 40 cars per trip, with two cars loaded on each of the 20 wagons. The freight charge is Rs 7,875 (inclusive of GST) per car. An initial registration fee of Rs 4,000 is payable at the time of booking, with the balance to be settled on the day of the journey.
Additionally, a maximum of three persons per car may travel in the attached 3AC coach or second seating coach by paying the prescribed fare (Rs 935 per passenger for 3AC or Rs 190 per passenger for second seating).

The projects span across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development and cultural heritage, aimed at achieving holistic urban transformation, cultural rejuvenation, improved connectivity, and enhanced quality of life in Varanasi. In line with his commitment to improving road connectivity in Varanasi, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several infrastructure projects. He will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi road and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road, as well as the Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur, to ease congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura Road. He will lay the foundation stone for comprehensive road widening and strengthening across multiple rural and urban corridors, including Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, Gangapur, Babatpur, among others and Railway Overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard. Strengthening the power infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of various works under the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of electrical infrastructure worth over Rs 880 crore. In a major boost to tourism, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the redevelopment of 8 riverfront Kuccha Ghats, development works at Kalika Dham, beautification of the pond and ghat at Rangildas Kutiya, Shivpur, and the restoration and water purification of Durgakund. He will lay the foundation stone for restoration work at Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of several freedom fighters, City Facility Centres at Sarnath, Rishi Mandvi, and Ramnagar Zones, redevelopment of Munshi Premchand's ancestral house in Lamahi and upgradation of the museum, among others. He will also lay the foundation stone for the development of an Urban Miyawaki Forest at Kanchanpur and the redevelopment and beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks. In addition to preserving culturally significant water bodies, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for water purification and maintenance works at various kunds, including Ramkund, Mandakini, Shankuldhara and others, along with the installation of four floating pujan platforms. To ensure access to potable water in rural areas, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate 47 Rural Drinking Water Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Furthering his vision of quality education for all, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the upgradation of 53 school buildings within the municipal boundary. He will also lay the foundation stone for several educational projects, including the construction of a new district library and rejuvenation of Government High Schools at Jakhini, Lalpur, among others. In a major boost to health infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate advanced medical equipment installations, including robotic surgery and CT scan facilities, at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. He will also lay the foundation stone of a Homoeopathic College and Hospital. Further, he will inaugurate an Animal Birth Control Centre and an associated Dog Care Centre. Furthering his vision for world-class sports infrastructure in Varanasi, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium. Enhancing facilities for law enforcement personnel, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a 300-capacity Multipurpose Hall at Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) Ramnagar and lay the foundation stone for Quick Response Team (QRT) Barracks. In a significant step towards farmer welfare, the Prime Minister will release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN. An amount of more than Rs 20,500 crore will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country. With this release, the total disbursement under the scheme since its inception will surpass Rs 3.90 lakh crore. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the registration portal for various events and competitions under the Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita, including Sketching Competition, Painting Competition, Photography Competition, Khel-Kood Pratiyogita, Gyan Pratiyogita, and the Rojgar Mela. The Prime Minister will also distribute more than 7,400 assistive aids to various Divyangjan and Elderly beneficiaries.

Vijayawada: Minister for IT and Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh on Thursday said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's five-day tour of Singapore, aimed at attracting investments, was a 'grand success'. He revealed that Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 45,000 crore were signed with the Government of Singapore and the Singapore Investment Corporation, committing to investments in Andhra Pradesh over the next five years. Speaking to media persons here, Lokesh highlighted Chandrababu Naidu's enduring positive image in Singapore, irrespective of his political status. He criticised the previous YSRCP government for unilaterally cancelling MoUs with Singapore, citing unsubstantiated corruption charges. Lokesh detailed the extensive engagements of the Chief Minister's team in Singapore, which included 26 face-to-face interviews and 19 meetings with industrialists. The delegation also undertook visits to key facilities such as Tuas Port, Jurong Petrochemicals, and companies in the IT, electronics, green energy, sports, and real estate sectors. The minister further announced that the mega Greenfield steel plant being established by AM/NS India, a joint venture between Lakshmi Mittal 's ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel of Japan in Andhra Pradesh, would commence production by 2029. Defending the decision to allot land to software giant TCS at 99 paise per acre, he asserted that this move was strategic to put Visakhapatnam on the global IT map. Consequently, Cognizant has also come forward to establish an office in Visakhapatnam. Lokesh reiterated the state government's commitment to allotting land to companies primarily to generate employment for the youth. He confirmed that TCS operations in Visakhapatnam will begin in September, followed by Cognizant starting operations in October.

Remove Ads Mumbai: Adani-group owned Ambuja Cements ' consolidated net profit jumped 24% on-year to ₹970 crore, underpinned by the highest ever sales volume and highest ever revenue in a quarter. The bottomline, though, was below market expectations. The company announced its earnings during market hours, and its shares extended losses to close down more than 4% at ₹592.70 on the revenue from operations crossed the ₹10,000 crore-mark for the first time ever, and was 23% higher compared to the previous year. Sales volume for the quarter were also at an all-time high of 18.4 million tonnes, up 20% as compared to the previous year. This included volumes from the company's acquisition of Orient Cement The higher sales volume also helped the company improve its market share by 200 basis points to 15.5%. Operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) rose to an all-time high of ₹1,961 crore from ₹1,280 crore a year ago, while Ebitda margin expanded by 380 basis points to 19.1%. The operating Ebitda made per tonne of steel improved to ₹1,069 from ₹835 a year ago."Our Q1 results are more than numbers-they reflect a vibrant mood, a transformation narrative rooted in speed, scale and sustainability," chief executive officer Vinod Bahety was quoted in a statement.'Integration of Orient assets has been completed ahead of time with good results from these assets. We have a good visibility to sustain this performance and well-positioned to lead the next phase of growth with a sustainable EBITDA of Rs 1,500 PMT,' he said. Ambuja Cements currently has a production capacity of 104.5 million tonne, which it plans to increase to 118 million tonne by March next year. By fiscal 2028, the company has a target of 140 million tonne in production company expects demand in the current fiscal to grow by 7-8% backed by sturdy rural and urban demand, modest pickup in infrastructure spending and a steady recovery in housing and real estate, it said in its outlook.
