'She's My Bahu': Karisma Kapoor Was ‘Family' To Amitabh Bachchan Before Engagement To Abhishek Bachchan

Before Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur, she was engaged to Abhishek Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan had once opened up on welcoming her as the Bachchan bahu.
Long before Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur, and long before her name was tied to headlines for anything else, she was just a step away from officially becoming a Bachchan. In an old interview, Amitabh Bachchan opened up about his son Abhishek's then-upcoming wedding plans with Karisma Kapoor — a wedding that, as we know today, never happened.
Back then, things were moving slowly, but surely. When asked whether Abhishek and Karisma's wedding would be a big, star-studded affair, Amitabh told Rediff, 'Not necessarily. The two families have to sit down together and see what kind of a wedding we both want, work out a date, etc. Babita [Karisma's mother] is away in New Zealand with her younger daughter Kareena."
Both families were spread out across the globe due to work commitments. Kareena and Abhishek were shooting together in New Zealand for Sooraj Barjatya's Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, while Karisma's father Randhir Kapoor was in Mauritius shooting Armaan, a film that also featured Amitabh Bachchan.
'As soon as they return, we will sit down to find out what we want and what the kids have in mind. Then we will go ahead with the wedding," he had said at the time.
For Amitabh, the engagement itself had already felt like the biggest celebration. He had said, 'What better gift for my birthday than to see my son engaged? If both families agree then we shall certainly do it. It all depends on what Daboo and Babita want."
But the most memorable moment from the interview was when Amitabh referred to Karisma not as a future daughter-in-law, but already part of the family. 'To be very honest, as far as I am concerned, for all practical purposes Lolo [Karisma] has already come home. She is my bahu, and part of our home. But yes, certain formalities have to be obviously observed."
As for the wedding date, everything seemed to hinge on logistics. He said, 'As soon as we arrive at a mutually convenient date. I will have to take the opinion of all concerned. These are all social formalities. Like I said, for me, Lolo is already part of our family."
However, things didn't go as planned. The engagement was eventually called off, and years later, Karisma married Sunjay Kapur.
Karisma married Sunjay in 2003, and they have two children named Kiaan and Samaira Kapoor. Their marriage ended in divorce, and Sunjay passed away in June 2025.
Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai in 2007, and they have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan.

Kajol Channels Tanuja On 50th Birthday, Greets Paps In Classic Black And White Saree

Kajol turned 50 on August 5 and looked like a spitting image of her mother Tanuja as she greeted paps in a white and black saree with a retro hairdo. Kajol turned 50 on Tuesday, August 5, and marked the milestone with grace, style and nostalgia. The actress stepped out of her Mumbai residence to greet the paparazzi waiting outside, and her look immediately caught attention. Draped in a classic white saree with a shimmering black border and a black blouse, Kajol bore a striking resemblance to her legendary mother, veteran actress Tanuja. Her look was completed with a retro middle-parted ponytail and minimal makeup, allowing her natural features to shine. She wore statement earrings and a ring, while keeping her accessories subtle. Kajol's warm smile and confident wave to the cameras made fans nostalgic for the golden era of cinema with many calling her a spitting image of Tanuja from her younger days. The visual homage to her mother didn't go unnoticed, and social media was quick to draw comparisons, with fans posting side-by-side images of Tanuja in her youth and Kajol's birthday look. Earlier in the day, Kajol's husband, actor Ajay Devgn, took to Instagram to post a birthday message filled with love and humour. Sharing two monochrome photos of Kajol — one from her youth and another recent click — Ajay wrote, 'Could say a lot but you would still roll your eyes. So… happy birthday, favourite Kajol." In February, Kajol had also shared a birthday post for Ajay, joking, 'All the cool people were born in August, but we don't mind wishing you a happy birthday 😉 …. thank u for always being older than me." Kajol and Ajay Devgn tied the knot in 1999 and are parents to two children – Nysa and Yug. On the work front, Kajol was last seen in the supernatural thriller Maa, while Ajay's latest release Son of Sardaar 2 hit theatres recently. Kajol's upcoming project Maharagni: Queen of Queens is also generating buzz. First Published: August 05, 2025, 22:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mahvash (@ Among the many congratulatory messages, one that stood out was from Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal not only liked the post but also commented, 'Congratulations," showing his support for Mahvash's achievement. This public gesture comes shortly after Chahal addressed ongoing rumours linking him to RJ Mahvash following his divorce from Dhanashree Verma. In an interview on Raj Shamani's podcast, the cricketer broke his silence on the speculation surrounding his personal life. When asked if he was in a relationship with Mahvash or anyone else, Chahal responded, 'No, there's nothing. People can think whatever they want to think." On the topic of love, he added, 'It will take time to process. I need to gather myself. I'm not afraid to fall in love again, but I'm scared of losing the person because I get attached with all my heart." Chahal also shared how online gossip negatively impacted Mahvash, who had supported him through one of the most difficult phases of his life. 'For the first time, when I was seen with someone, people started linking us right away. Even she clarified it, but it was very hard for her. She was called a homewrecker… people said really nasty things. I felt terrible," he revealed. Recalling a simple Christmas dinner, he said, 'We had a Christmas dinner with five people, but the photo was cropped to make it look like just the two of us were on a dinner date." Chahal added that the rumours made it difficult to even hang out with friends without fear of being judged.
