GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: AFL star Sam Butler posts stomach-churning photo of horrific injury that has kept him off the field for 418 days
Butler, 22, broke both his fibula and tibia in a game for VFL side Box Hill on April 28 last year in horrific scenes.
Adding to the drama was Butler then having to wait half an hour for an ambulance to arrive and take him to hospital.
A few niggles late in the pre-season delayed the youngster's start to 2025, but he has been recalled by Hawks coach Sam Mitchell to play the Western Bulldogs in a blockbuster at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Thursday night.
Butler, who has displayed his versatility by playing in the midfield for Box Hill in recent weeks, will look to help the Hawks avoid a fourth successive defeat.
Concerningly, they were hammered by premiership favourites Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions in their last two outings.
Mitchell has outlined what he desperately wants to see from his players more than any other against the Bulldogs.
'I just think it's pressure,' the coach said.
The Hawks were outclassed in the tackle counts against the Magpies and Lions, with the numbers - 82-38 and 59-36 - painting a grim picture.
'The winning tackle count is often not the winning team, but you can't get beaten the way we have been,' Mitchell added.
'Enabling the players to be able to put pressure on the opposition is going to be the most important thing for us.'
Meanwhile, Luke Beveridge's Bulldogs are bracing themselves for a fierce attack on the contest from a desperate Hawthorn side.
'You're always wary when a club's been under the microscope a bit and the way they galvanise and prepare for their next game,' he said.
'We've got to be ready for their intensity in this game, because it might be more explosive than what you're sometimes used to.
'That's our challenge in the bigger part of the platform to springboard into the back half of the year off a really good experience.
'It's a really critical game for both clubs.'

No let up as Lions put out strongest side for final Australia test
SYDNEY, July 31 (Reuters) - British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has made only two changes to his starting team for final test against Australia on Saturday with his sights firmly focused on sealing a 3-0 series sweep. With the series already won after last week's victory in Melbourne, Farrell resisted the temptation to give squad players a run and said he had selected a team he thought was best able to finish the tour with a third test win. "It would mean the world to us, it's something that we promised ourselves that we were going to chase after," he told a news conference on Thursday. "It's a big ask, but it's something that we're determined to do. This is the best 23 to take the group forward." Farrell said one of the most pleasing elements of the tour had been the way all the players had bought into the concept of squad unity, regardless of whether they were selected for the tests or not. "It touches you, it really does," he said. "It touches you in the sense of how much it means to them. For example, you come in after such a big victory on Saturday night (and) the people that were celebrating the most were the guys that hadn't put the shirt on." Blair Kinghorn, who missed the first test because of a knee injury, replaces James Lowe on the left wing as he did during last week's win in Melbourne, while James Ryan starts in the second row in place of Ollie Chessum. Chessum drops to the bench, where Ben Earl comes in as back row cover alongside Jac Morgan with Farrell opting for a 6-2 split in favour of the forwards for what is forecast to be a wet weather test at Stadium Australia. The starting back row and halfback pairing remain the same for the third consecutive match, while Tadhg Furlong will start his ninth straight Lions test in the front row. "It's amazing," Farrell said of the Irish prop. "It's been well documented how much he loves playing for the Lions ... and it isn't just the performances that have been through the roof, it's also his manner on a Lions tour as well. "I've never seen him in such good spirits, so he's ready to go again." Captain Maro Itoje will start his eighth straight Lions test having played the first match of the 2017 series in New Zealand off the bench. "Look at the quality of player they are," Farrell said. "Look at the standing that they have with any group that they represent. Those two lads epitomise what it takes to be a top level international player." Team: 15–Hugo Keenan, 14–Tommy Freeman, 13–Huw Jones, 12–Bundee Aki, 11–Blair Kinghorn, 10–Finn Russell, 9–Jamison Gibson-Park, 8–Jack Conan, 7–Tom Curry, 6–Tadhg Beirne, 5–James Ryan, 4–Maro Itoje, 3–Tadhg Furlong, 2–Dan Sheehan, 1–Andrew Porter Replacements: 16–Ronan Kelleher, 17–Ellis Genge, 18–Will Stuart, 19–Ollie Chessum, 20–Jac Morgan, 21–Ben Earl, 22–Alex Mitchell, 23–Owen Farrell

Billy Brownless makes bombshell TV comeback with Channel Seven after leaving Nine's Footy Show in 2021
Footy identity Billy Brownless is poised to make a shock TV comeback - but it isn't with Channel Nine, where he was employed for 27 years. Brownless, 58, will join the likes of Brian Taylor, Matthew Richardson, Rebecca Maddern, Andy Maher and Robert 'Dipper' DiPierdomenico in commentary for the Legends Game for Prostate Cancer at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on August 28. It comes after Brownless - who left Channel Nine's Footy Show in 2021 - revealed earlier this month his kids were horrified by his now infamous viral skinny-dipping stunt. One of his children, Ruby, even went as far as calling him a 'd***head' after seeing the confronting image online. The former Geelong star was celebrating his first anniversary with his girlfriend Crystle Fleur, with the pair heading off on a romantic tour of Western Australia. While the pair kept their followers updated on the trip, posting some cute pictures of the getaway on social media, Brownless shocked fans after publishing a picture of himself swimming naked in a pool at the Cable Beach Club in Broome. Brownless, a father-of-four, revealed that it was his girlfriend who instigated the photo opportunity while he was enjoying a casual dip in the pool. Not surprisingly, the presenter of Triple M's Rush Hour alongside James Brayshaw attracted plenty of comments for the risqué picture. One included a message from footy legend Chris Judd's wife Bec, who had been on holiday with a group of family and friends at the same location. 'Hahahaha. Nice seeing you. Glad you had some clothes on (this time),' she joked. Collingwood premiership winner Dale Thomas, who now works on Channel 7's footy coverage, joked: 'Reverse angle is a Nirvana album cover,' in reference to the band's breakthrough album cover Nevermind. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated State of Origin clash between Victoria and the All Stars is named in honour of football legend E.J Whitten, who passed away from prostate cancer in 1995. The event aims to raise awareness and funds through the Australian Prostate Centre. Hawthorn great Luke Hodge will captain Victoria, with Tim Watson as coach, while St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt is tipped to skipper the All Stars, who will be overseen by Shane Crawford. Former Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli will lace up his footy boots for the upcoming rebooted Legends Game, with Gary Ablett Jr also expected to feature.

Andy Farrell makes two alterations to an otherwise unchanged Lions starting XV for the third Test against Australia as tourists go in search of whitewash
Blair Kinghorn and James Ryan have been promoted into an otherwise unchanged Lions starting XV for the third Test against Australia here at Accor Stadium on Saturday. Head coach Andy Farrell has opted to retain the vast majority of those players who started at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last Saturday, as the British and Irish tourists edged out the Wallabies 29-26 to win the series with one match to go. There was speculation that Farrell may choose to freshen-up his side or offer chances to other players who have had limited roles in the Tests, but instead he has put his faith in most of the same men to go again, in the quest for a 3-0 whitewash. That was always the ambition for this 2025 crusade; for the Lions to earn a series clean sweep and to win every match they played Down Under. Now that they are within reach of that objective, Farrell has shown his laser focus on completing the quest by demonstrating utter ruthlessness as a selector. He has not been swayed by sentiment; this is a statement that the Lions are back in business mode – after their protracted celebrations – and are going for the jugular. Just two starting changes is a very modest reshuffle in the circumstances. Kinghorn plays full-back for Scotland but he has been picked on the left wing for this game, having often operated there for Toulouse. He is a supreme asset as a runner, commanding aerial presence, kicker and distributor, and after a glittering cameo last weekend he is deservedly included at the expense of James Lowe, who has been a shadow of his normal self on this trip. The other alteration is in the second row, with Ryan preferred to England's Ollie Chessum, to partner captain Maro Itoje. The Leinster lock had not been a stand-out figure in the tour matches leading up to the series, but he was another who made a positive impact off the bench at the MCG and he is among the Irish stalwarts well known and trusted by Farrell. Ryan's provincial and Test team-mate, Joe McCarthy, is not in the match-day 23, which suggests he has not recovered from a foot injury. Chessum is among the replacements this time but instead of an outside back filling the void left by Kinghorn's elevation, Farrell has opted for a six-two bench split. Ben Earl will act as additional back-row cover but also has the ability, at a push, to be deployed in midfield, in an emergency. Owen Farrell will once again be primed to come on at 10 or inside centre, as required. Lions third Test squad H Keenan (Ire); T Freeman (Eng), H Jones (Sco), B Aki (Ire), B Kinghorn (Sco); F Russell (Sco), J Gibson-Park (Ire); A Porter (Ire), D Sheehan (Ire), T Furlong (Ire); M Itoje (Eng. capt), J Ryan (Ire); T Beirne (Ire), J Conan (Ire), T Curry (Eng). Replacements: R Kelleher (Ire), E Genge (Eng), W Stuart (Eng), O Chessum (Eng), J Morgan (Wal), B Earl (Eng), A Mitchell (Eng), O Farrell (Eng). His father set the scene for the final act in Australia, saying: 'We've put ourselves in a great position to finish this tour with our best performance to date and create our own piece of history. 'Last weekend's Test in Melbourne was an incredible spectacle and illustrated how special Lions tours are and what they mean to both the players and the supporters. 'We are expecting another epic battle this weekend against a Wallaby side that showed their quality last week.'
