Lokesh meets V-P, 4 Union ministers
New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh met Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dankar as well as four union ministers here on Wednesday and highlighted the progress achieved by Andhra Pradesh under the NDA rule over the past one year. After the Vice-President made enquiries about the progress of developmental works relating to Amaravati, Lokesh informed him that the Amaravati works, started with an outlay of Rs 64,000 crore, could be completed in three years.
Lokesh presented a book on his Yuva Galam pada yatra to the Vice President.
Later, Minister Lokesh met Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah and briefed him on the progress of Andhra Pradesh during the NDA government's one-year period. When Lokesh presented the Union Minister with the book on Yuva Galam pada yatra, Amit Shah congratulated him on undertaking the pada yatra with the objective of knowing the problems of people at close quarters and assured him of Centre's cooperation for the development of Andhra Pradesh state.
Later, the Minister met Union Minister of Food Processing Chirag Paswan and sought cooperation to develop Rayalaseema region as a horticulture hub. He said that horticulture farmers of the Rayalaseema region were suffering losses due to lack of minimum support price (MSP) for the produce.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan, while assuring cooperation from his side, said that he would be visiting Tirupati to inaugurate a food processing incubation centre on July 11.
Subsequently, Minister Lokesh met Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghawal seeking cooperation for the establishment of a bench of the AP High Court at Kurnool. He said that Rayalaseema people were facing problems travelling 500 km to attend High Court hearings in Amaravati and requested a High Court bench in Kurnool.
Lokesh also met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and briefed him on the reforms being undertaken by the new coalition government to enhance educational standards in the state.
He said that, as part of this initiative, the government was introducing the Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP) programme to transform the education ecosystem. A total of 9,600 model primary schools were being established across the state, following a 'One Class – One Teacher' policy. Additionally, 175 LEAP schools - one in each Assembly constituency - were being developed with world-class infrastructure. Around 700 upper primary schools had been upgraded to high schools. Schools were now being awarded ratings based on academic and infrastructural standards, he said.
Lokesh invited Pradhan to attend the mega parent-teacher event on July 5. He also requested that Andhra Pradesh be given the opportunity to host the Education Ministers' Conclave in August—a proposal that was accepted by Pradhan.
The Union Minister commended Lokesh for his transformative efforts in the education sector.

Protest held demanding fee regulation
Puttaparthi: Led by State student JAC president Amar Yadav, student activists on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the DEO office demanding control over exorbitant fees charged by corporate educational institutions in the drought-affected district. The protestors alleged that private institutions such as Chaitanya, Narayana, Keshava Reddy, SR, Bhashyam, Era, Montessori Global, and HPS are collecting amounts ranging from Rs 9,000 to Rs 19,000 in the name of textbooks alone. DEO Prasad Babu reportedly verified this by presenting evidence of book prices. Student leaders criticised public representatives for turning education into business and demanded their resignation. They further alleged that corporate schools are collecting lakhs of rupees under different streams like C-Batch, M-Batch, Techno IPL, Olympiad, Spark, IIT, and Learning International. Protesters highlighted lack of playgrounds in these schools, stating that many institutions operate from five or six story buildings, which is against safety norms. They questioned the DEO as to who will be held accountable in case of accidents and demanded strict enforcement of regulations. In response, DEO Prasad Babu assured that action would be taken against schools violating norms based on the complaints brought forward.

Modi is Prez, Shimla is nat'l capital: Class X students' answers leave Sukhu upset
During a surprised visit to Government Senior Secondary School at Baga Sarahan in Kullu district on Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was taken aback when Class X students failed to give correct answers to his two questions — who is the President of India, and which city is the national capital? To his surprise, one student said Narendra Modi is the President of India, and another said 'Shimla is the capital of India. However, the correct answers came from two students of Class IV, giving a sigh of relief to the CM and others, including Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S Raveesh and Kullu MLA Sundar Singh Thakur. The visibly upset chief minister pulled up the principal of the senior secondary school for the dismal response from Class X students and told him to focus on the general knowledge of the students instead of merely teaching them textbooks. Sukhu, however, appreciated the primary classes' teachers, whose students answered the questions correctly. According to information, Sukhu made a surprise visit to the school on his way back to Shimla after concluding a two-day visit to Baga Sarahan, where he inaugurated several developmental projects and released Rs 1,500 instalments for women under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna (IGPBSSNY). When Sukhu reached the school morning prayer meeting was in progress. A senior officer accompanying the CM said, 'His visit was unexpected. He didn't tell anyone about this. The idea to visit the school came to his mind at the last moment. It appears he wanted to check the standard of education quality among the students. He was upset when students of Class X failed to answer two simple questions, which Class IV students correctly answered.' When contacted, Director of Elementary Education, Himachal Pradesh, Ashish Kohli said, 'It is a matter of concern if students of Class X failed to answer the simplest questions and students of primary classes answered them. I will look into this matter. As the CM has issued instructions to focus on the general knowledge of the students, the instructions will be strictly followed.' Later, interacting with the teachers, Sukhu emphasised providing practical knowledge to the students, apart from the routine curriculum, and imparting competitive general knowledge as well. Sukhu also interacted with the students and encouraged them to set clear targets and work hard with dedication to achieve their dreams. He advised the students to adopt noble values and ideals in their lives. He said the old school building from Pre-Nursery to Class VIII must be replaced with a modern school building. Earlier, the CM met residents at Public Works Department Rest House in Baga Sarahan and listened to their grievances. He also gave necessary directions to the officers concerned for the redressal of the same.

Telangana: BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri terms Banakacherla's project meeting
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 19 (ANI): BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri has criticised the proposed meeting by Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on the Banakacherla project. He further highlighted the absence of communication between the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the issue. 'Banakacherla project is the Andhra Pradesh govt's proposal. The Centre has not received any major documentation yet. According to me, the Centre will go as per the CWC guidelines and the Godavari River Board. Till now, there is no correspondence between the CMs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on this. The meeting, called by Uttam Kumar Reddy, is a sheer eyewash. He has no clue about what Telangana wants, how the state will move forward if Telangana needs more water. We have info that Uttam Reddy is operating on KCR's orders,' he said. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha also voiced strong opposition to the Banakacherla project under the proposed Godavari-Cauvery river linking, alleging that it would deprive Telangana of its rightful share of river water and leave several districts in the state parched. She further criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, claiming that he has failed to effectively intervene and stop the decision being made by the Central government. Speaking to ANI, K Kavitha said, 'In the proposed river linking project of Godavari-Cauvery, Telangana will lose its water share because now Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is trying to change the linkage point from Telangana to the Andhra Pradesh region. We are severely objecting to it.' 'Unfortunately, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy is not able to effectively stop this decision being made by the Central government. If the linkage point is shifted to Andhra Pradesh, half of the Telangana districts will be left parched. We will lose rights to the Godavari river water in the future. We severely object to this particular river linkage project, which is under the name Banakacherla,' the BRS MLC stated. The Godavari-Banakacherla Link Scheme is a massive project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Government at an estimated cost of Rs 80,112 crore. The plan involves diverting 200 TMC of water from the Godavari River at Polavaram to Rayalaseema through the Bollapalli reservoir and Banakacherla head regulator. The proposal seeks to interlink the Godavari, Krishna, and Penna rivers. In April, the Telangana government decided to approach the Supreme Court against two major river interlinking projects proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Government - the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Scheme and the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS), state Minister for Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy had said.
