Public health alert as fake vodka laced with toxic chemical seized in Scotland
A major public health warning has been issued after bottles of fake Glen's Vodka laced with a dangerous chemical were found to be circulating in Scotland.
Food Standards Scotland (FSS) confirmed the counterfeit booze contains isopropyl alcohol - a substance commonly used in cleaning products - which can cause serious harm or even death if consumed.
The counterfeit vodka was discovered being sold in 35cl bottles, also known as half bottles, fraudulently labelled as Glen's.
Experts say the fake vodka may smell strange or taste different to the real thing, and are urging people not to drink it under any circumstances.

Even small amounts of isopropyl alcohol can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, headaches, confusion, and slow breathing. In the worst cases, it can lead to coma or death.
The full scale of distribution has not been confirmed, but anyone who has drunk alcohol with a strong, unusual smell or taste and is now suffering symptoms should call NHS 24 on 111 right away. In an emergency, dial 999.
Every genuine bottle of Glen's vodka has a laser etched lotcode applied to the bottle between the rear label and the base of the bottle.
Real bottles will also have specific markings on the base that do not change in detail or position.
Anyone who thinks they've bought one of these fake bottles is urged not to bin it or pour it away, but to report it immediately to the Scottish Food Crime and Incidents Unit at foodcrime@fss.scot.

Their statement continued: "The Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew also responded to the scene to render aid. The male victim was airlifted to a regional medical facility for treatment. The full extent of his injuries are not known at the time of this release. "Based on witness information provided to officers at the scene, the suspect entered into the victim's place of employment, confronted him and doused him with a flammable liquid. The victim and suspect exited the building, where the suspect then set the victim on fire. "The suspect fled the scene, however witness information provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. "The driver, Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, of Danville, was identified as the suspect in the attack and is currently in police custody. "The Danville Police Department does not typically identify living victims in media releases, however due to his public position as an elected official, the victim of this attack was identified as Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler, 38, of Danville. "Based on the investigation at the time of this release, the victim and the suspect are known to each other and the attack stems from a personal matter not related to the victim's position on Danville City Council or any other political affiliation. "Due to the ongoing investigation, the Danville Police Department will not provide any further details about the incident itself, however charge information will be forthcoming."

"It's a shame because he wasn't involved but they went for him. The ambulance took him away. I hope he's ok." Scots teen unmasked after being jailed for 'Columbine-style' school massacre plot
Winter has been identified and pictured for the first time as his jail sentence is confirmed. A Scots teen who has been locked up for six years for plotting a mass shooting at his own school has been unmasked for the first time. Felix Winter wanted to recreate the horrors of the notorious Columbine massacre in Colorado in the United States in 1999 at his Edinburgh secondary school. He "idolised" the killers who gunned down 12 students and a teacher during a murderous rampage. He was today sentenced to six years in jail for Terrorism offences at the High Court in Glasgow after police unravelled his plans. Reporting restrictions meant he could not be identified or pictured before now, due to his age. Felix, now 18, , from Edinburgh, repeatedly spoke about launching a deadly attack at his secondary school, referring to the planned massacre as "Doomsday" and describing how he would one day "clear it out". The court previously heard that Winter "idolised" the two gunmen responsible for the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Colorado, which left 12 students and a teacher dead. A police investigation was launched in summer 2023 after a photograph circulated on social media showing Winter in full combat gear, holding an imitation firearm on school grounds. The image caused widespread panic among pupils and parents. At the time, Winter had already been referred to the UK's anti-terrorism Prevent programme, designed to stop individuals from becoming radicalised. Winter pleaded guilty to a breach of the peace and an offence under the Terrorism Act, with his crimes taking place between June 2022 and July 2023. Police have today released a photo of Winter as they praised officers who worked tirelessly during an "extremely complex" investigation. Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said:'This was an extremely complex and fast-moving investigation, and I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the diligence and hard work of the officers who worked tirelessly to gather the evidence and bring the perpetrator to justice. 'The inquiry also underlines the advantages of working closely in partnership as part of the Prevent programme which promotes early intervention through tailored, diversionary support to individuals who may be susceptible to supporting or committing terrorism to help keep our communities safe.'
