Former world snooker champion Luca Brecel has reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing his Ironman ambitions, despite sceptics questioning his decision.
The 30-year-old, who recently reached the quarter-finals at the Crucible before being defeated by Judd Trump, has been diligently training for the triathlon challenge with the goal of competing in 2028.

Since claiming the sport's top prize two years ago, Brecel has sparked debate with his approach to snooker. His prioritisation of Ironman training has led to a decline in his world rankings.

He has even hosted his own training camps in Majorca and travelled to and from the Spanish island during last year's Northern Ireland Open.
After his loss to Trump in Sheffield, he confessed to struggling with focus during lengthy matches and expressed his dislike for extended stays in England.
Undeterred, Brecel remains determined to tackle the demanding event, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle ride, and a 26.2-mile run.

During last year's Northern Ireland Open, where he balanced his training schedule with matches before losing to China's Pang Junxu, he addressed his doubters and pledged to seek professional guidance for his fitness regimen.
"It is a really big ambition of mine - some people think it's a joke, but I'm really serious about it," he said.
"That's the main focus, and Majorca is a good environment to train, a lot of the pro cyclists go out there.", reports the Express.

Brecel said: "I'm going to focus on cycling and running for the next two years, and then I'll pick up swimming.
"A Belgian, Frederik van Lierde, won the Ironman World Championship in 2013, so I might ask him to coach me a little bit. That's on the cards."
He has also dismissed claims he is using his sport to justify his repeated trips to Majorca claiming it isn't a sunshine vacation.

"For me being in Majorca is not really about the sunshine, it's about the temperature and it's a good environment to train," he said.
"It's not about lying on the beach, I haven't seen the beach yet, it's all about training."
The former world number two has improved since his results dropped earlier this season.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims on Friday, Davide Ancelotti has made a major decision on his future and is teaming up with his dad Carlo once again. He posted on Twitter: "Davide Ancelotti joins Brazil staff with his father Carlo, decision made and contract signed." Ancelotti has already been his father's number two at Real Madrid, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Everton. But it appeared he was set to go out on his own at Rangers after months of speculation linking him with the top job at Ibrox. He had indicated that Rangers were his preferred choice but had a number of options to consider, with Spanish second division side Deportivo and Swiss outfit Basel reportedly interested. One of those other opportunities also included rejoining his father at Brazil after leaving Real Madrid and that's the decision he has reportedly made. Carlo Ancelotti's first match in charge of Brazil ended in a 0-0 draw with Ecuador on Thursday, which he still described as a "special" occasion. Chances were at a premium, with Brazil only mustering two shots on target. He said after the game: "I think the pitch conditions here made it a bit tricky to play a more intricate game from the back. "It was harder to control the ball. "That said, we had two very good chances, with Vinicius Jr, with Casemiro in the second half. "Yes, we could've done better in attack, but you've also got to take into account the strength of the opponent. "Ecuador played a very good game, just as we did... The journeys here are really long, that takes its toll a bit." Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager The draw keeps them fourth in World Cup qualification in South America with an encounter against Paraguay to come. The top six automatically qualify for next year's showpiece. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

It's claimed that the Blues approached Barcelona about swapping out-of-favour forward Christopher Nkunku for the 22-year-old talent. However, Barcelona officials have outright rejected the approach, with manager Hansi Flick keen to keep hold of the two-time Spain international. Barcelona are interested in bringing in a new forward this summer, but are thought to consider Liverpool winger Luis Diaz as their number one target - who has admitted he is talking to other clubs. Nkunku, 27, looks destined for a Stamford Bridge exit after making just nine Premier League starts under Enzo Maresca this season. Lopez has also struggled for consistent minutes at Barcelona, falling behind the likes of Dani Olmo, Raphinha and Gavi in the pecking order for the Catalan giants. However, he is still understood to be considered a crucial part of Barcelona's future - picking up 18 goal contributions across all competitions this season. It's claimed that the only way Barcelona would let Lopez go would be if the Euro 2024 winner pushed for an exit himself in search of more regular minutes. 5 5 Join SUN CLUB for the Chelsea Files every Tuesday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from Stamford Bridge Lopez will have one eye on making Luis de la Fuente's Spain squad for next summer's World Cup, something he will have to be playing regularly to achieve. Meanwhile forgotten Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga - who spent the season on loan with Bournemouth - could be on his way to London rivals Arsenal. The Gunners are interested in signing the Spanish shot-stopper as backup to number one David Raya - seeing his £5m release clause as an attractive market opportunity. 5 Watch EVERY match of the Club World Cup 2025 live on DAZN

Watch: Ex-Celtic man nets to send country to 2026 World Cup

Myung-Bo Hong's side took on Iraq away from home as they secured their place at the tournament, which will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer. Read more: Oh started on the bench and was introduced at the hour mark. Three minutes later, South Korea took the lead through Jin-Gyu Kim, who was brought on at the break. Ex-Celtic man Oh then sealed the victory with eight minutes remaining, firing home, first-time, from inside the box after a fine low cross. Oh Hyeon-gyu scores his 3rd goal in 5 games to push the KNT lead to 2 and all but seal Korea's 11th WORLD CUP qualification! Jeon Jin-woo debuts for the KNT with an assist! 🫡🇰🇷#오현규 #krcgenk — Joel Kim (@KNTFootball) June 5, 2025 Current Parkhead winger Yang Hyun-jun was an unused substitute in the match. His old teammate, Oh, spent a year and a half in Glasgow's east end, making 47 appearances across all competitions. He was sold to Genk last summer and has found his feet with the Belgian top-flight outfit, scoring 12 times in 41 games. Brought to Celtic by Ange Postecoglou to replace Giorgos Giakoumakis, the 24-year-old never really got going in green and white. His strike against Iraq on Friday was only his third for his country. Up top, Adam Idah is the sole recognised striker currently at Celtic. Brendan Rodgers' desire to sign a new number nine in January following Kyogo Furuhashi's exit was apparent. His wish wasn't granted, though, and Daizen Maeda, rather successfully, was utilised as a striker in the second half of last season. The Scottish Premiership champions have reportedly put a £21 million valuation on his services ahead of the summer transfer window.
