More than a thousand items have been donated to what organisers say is the largest-ever exhibition of the UK's hobbies.Come As You Really Are is being held at Wolverhampton Art Gallery until 5 October and has objects on show that have been created, modified or collected by hobbyists from across the UK.Organisers said there were more than 150 exhibitors covering "a true treasure trove" of items, including mythological creatures, handcrafted objects, 1980s milk bottles and TV and music memorabilia. The exhibition opened on 12 July but an official launch is being held from Friday and over the weekend.
Hetain Patel, an award-winning artist and Spiderman enthusiast from Bolton, has been involved in the exhibition and made a film about the passion and creativity people put into their hobbies, the city council said. The exhibition opened in Croydon, south London, last year and is touring the UK in 2025 and 2026.A spokesperson for the City of Wolverhampton Council said there was "amazing range" of objects on display."Visitors have been incredibly enthusiastic so far and our visitor comments book has already needed to be extended," they said."They are impressed by the creative talent of local people, and the vast number of objects. "We're expecting many repeat visits as people point out that they see new things they hadn't noticed the first time."Organisers appealed for donations earlier this year and said they were getting a positive response. The loaned items are from hobbyists - someone who takes part in an activity on an ongoing basis - in Wolverhampton, The Black Country and across the West Midlands.

Spider-mania shows no sign of slowing as Glasgow is caught in a web of superhero excitement

Spider-mania has shown no sign of slowing as fans continue to gather in Glasgow city centre to take in the filming of the latest superhero movie. Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has drawn thousands of excited children and intrigued residents keen to see the dramatic action scenes unfold on their doorstep. Since filming kicked off on July 31, onlookers have been delighted by spectacular car chases, explosions and daring feats performed by Spider-Man's stunt double. Youngsters decked out in Spidey costumes were among the crowds gathered as crews filmed an armoured vehicle racing through the streets with the action hero on top. The blockbuster is the latest Hollywood film to have shot scenes in Glasgow in recent years, with the city also showing up in Indiana Jones, The Flash and Batman. In the last year alone, Top Gun star Glen Powell has also shot two major movies in Glasgow: JJ Abrams' Ghostwriter and a remake of The Running Man. Over the past week familiar streets were left unrecognisable thanks to the arrival of American police and military vehicles, along with high-tech equipment. Fans were even treated to a glimpse of Tom Holland on Sunday when the actor shot an action sequence in costume before chatting to a large crowd. The upcoming Spider-Man film will be Marvel's fourth movie following the story of Peter Parker, and the Spider-Mania that has gripped the centre of Glasgow is set to spread further afield, as Marvel bosses have announced extra filming dates at new locations. Shooting will be extended by 11 days and will move towards the eastern part of the city centre until August 26.
