NBA Veteran Charles Barkley slams modern NBA coaches while calling them "cowards"
Former Phoenix Suns player and NBA veteran
Charles Barkley
candidly spoke on Friday. He reflected on the fact that the current state of the NBA world could have been much better. However, his statement has sparked some heated debate among the basketball community.
They know exactly what he was talking about. For a player to become great, they need assistance from a great coach, but the modern NBA doesn't seem to have it, according to Charles Barkley. Modern NBA coaches are scared to coach their teams. That says it all. Modern-day NBA coaches don't have the same courage as they did in the past. The fire and boldness seem to be missing from their routine.

Charles Barkley feels deeply about NBA and its current scenario
The 90s NBA had a very different scenario than what we see today. The coaches were furious and had a zeal for coaching their respective teams. 'I think the biggest thing you need to be a great player is have a good coaching staff. That is probably the most important thing — the coaching staff,' explained Charles Barkley on the show. At least that was the scenario when he used to play basketball.
NBA Veteran Charles Barkley shared his perspective about having a great coach
'Like, I wanted a Pat Riley. I had a great coach, Billy Cunningham, a Gregg Popovich, but most of the coaches today, they are cowards because the players make so much money. They don't have them under control. The players run the team. And the coach needs to realize that player is going to get him fired, but we have taken the power from the coaches away because the players make so much money. But I say bad coaches have ruined more players than anything in the NBA', Charles Barkley said.
What he meant to say is that having a great coach is a blessing. Today's NBA coaches have lost control over their players, and hence, they don't make enough money.

Darnell Washington's size sparks bold fan theory as Steelers consider offensive line options
Darnell Washington's size sparks bold fan theory as Steelers consider offensive line options (Image via Getty) Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington is gaining attention again; this time, not just for his performance but for a possible position change. The idea came up during the August 7 episode of Pittsburgh Steelers Morning Rush, where host Alan Saunders explored whether Darnell Washington could eventually shift from tight end to offensive tackle. It's not just a podcast hot take, fans and analysts have been watching his training camp practices and questioning if his incredible size and blocking power could help fill a bigger role on the offensive line. Pittsburgh Steelers training camp highlights Darnell Washington's tackle potential after dominant performance Darnell Washington impressed training camp with his blocking ability and physicality. At 6-foot-7 and close to 270 pounds, he stands physically as an NFL offensive lineman would. When he exhibits his natural strength and technique through the blocking drills, it's easy to see why people wonder if he could help a struggling offensive line. Social media lit up with Pittsburgh Steelers fans with videos of him moving defenders and the conversation took off. Others even wondered if he could be a better tackle than second year player Broderick Jones, who has struggled this preseason. Alan Saunders acknowledged those comments and said while it's still just talk, it's not unrealistic. Darnell Washington was asked about the possibility himself and responded positively. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like become a millionaire wealthci Shop Now Undo He said he believes he has the skills to play offensive tackle but is focused on being a tight end unless the team asks for something else. He's in a potent tight end group with Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith, and head coach Mike Tomlin appears to be enthused about employing all three of them to different degrees of effectiveness this season. Darnell Washington's combination of size, strength, and catching gives him tremendous value in any offensive scheme. For the time being, he appears to be staying at tight end, but his versatility can offer options if injuries or change to the starting lineup occur later in the year. Boston Celtics' $6.1 Billion Sale Nears Completion; Two-Week Timeline Set: Report
Last Updated: The Celtics are being sold for $6.1 billion to William Chisholm's group, pending NBA approval. This is the second-largest NBA franchise sale after the Lakers' $10 billion deal. The Boston Celtics are on the brink of a historic ownership change, with a $6.1 billion sale to private equity executive William Chisholm and his investment group expected to close within the next two weeks. According to a report by Sportico on Thursday, the transaction is still subject to approval from the NBA's Board of Governors, comprised of the league's 30 team owners. The vote can be conducted remotely and is typically a formality in such high-profile franchise sales. The Celtics announced in March that the Chisholm-led group would be acquiring the franchise from the Grousbeck family and Boston Basketball Partners LLC. At $6.1 billion, the deal set a new benchmark as the highest price ever agreed upon for a North American sports franchise—until June, when Mark Walter struck a deal to acquire the Los Angeles Lakers at a staggering $10 billion valuation. The Celtics sale will become the second-largest in NBA history, only behind the Lakers' recent valuation. Chisholm, a Massachusetts native and co-founder of the California-based private equity firm STG Partners, is a lifelong Celtics fan. While Wyc Grousbeck is expected to remain the team's governor until the end of the 2027–28 season, Chisholm will assume that role once the transition is fully complete. The Grousbeck-led group originally purchased the Celtics in 2002 for $360 million, a figure that underscores the massive appreciation in franchise valuations over the past two decades. Boston Basketball Partners LLC disclosed in 2023 that they planned to sell the majority stake in late 2024 or early 2025, with the remainder to be offloaded by 2028. Grousbeck, whose family played a key role in the Celtics' operations and resurgence over the past two decades—including the 2008 NBA Championship—will continue to oversee the franchise during the transitional period. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
