Sam Smith Feels Light as a Feather on New Single ‘To Be Free'
'It was created during a time in my life where I became free within myself,' Smith shared in a statement about 'To Be Free,' which is backed by the TwoCity Chorus, a 22-piece choir helmed by Ant Clemons and Brandon Pain. 'I've never had a recording experience like I did making this song. It's one vocal and guitar take from start to finish – one live performance of me and my friend Simon Aldred in a pure state of music and expression.'

Smith added: 'Over the last five years, Simon and I started to create music that fit into this world of 'To Be Free' and during this time, I've continued to turn to this song in happy moments, sad moments, lonely moments and angry moments. It's become my sister, my family member and ultimately calms me. Now, I'm ready to let it go and hopefully it can do the same for someone else.'
The single arrives alongside an expressive music video directed by (La)Horde. 'With this song, the visual of rivers kept coming into my mind and into my heart,' Smith said. They were reminded of the river near their childhood home in the English countryside, the Thames in London, and New York's Hudson River, near their current residence. 'Rivers have been in my life a lot. So I found it interesting to think of my music and my expression as an artist as a river.' In the video, dancers give in to the flow.
'To Be Free' was filmed at Warsaw, one of Brooklyn's oldest venues. In October, Smith will spend 12 nights performing in the same space for the To Be Free: New York City residency. The run of live shows kicks off on Oct. 8 and extends through Oct. 31. General sale begins Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. local time following presale, which begins Tuesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. local time.
'I've been waiting for the right time to release this song,' Smith shared, 'and I couldn't be happier that it's finally yours.'

Is Marvel and DC's New Crossover The Big-Screen Pitch Hollywood Should Pay Attention To? — GeekTyrant
The age-old Marvel vs. DC debate is about to hit a whole new level, and for once, it's not about who's better. It's about what happens when these two universes collide. For decades, fans have dreamed of a crossover event, and while Hollywood has never delivered, Marvel Comics and DC are stepping up in a way that should make Marvel Studios and DC Studios pay attention. Starting this September, the ultimate team-up kicks off with Deadpool/Batman #1, published by Marvel, followed in November by DC's Batman/Deadpool #1. You can't get more high-profile than the Merc with a Mouth and the Dark Knight, and both one-shots come loaded with all-star creative talent. Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo headline the first issue, while DC returns fire with its own stacked lineup. But the crossover doesn't stop there. Backup stories bring even more iconic pairings together: Daredevil teams with Green Arrow in a story by Kevin Smith and Adam Kubert; Jeff the Land Shark meets Krypto courtesy of Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru; and perhaps the most symbolic matchup of all… Captain America and Wonder Woman, crafted by Chip Zdarsky and Terry Dodson. Dodson even delivers a stunning cover featuring Cap and Diana side by side, a visual that screams cinematic potential. And that's the thing. Comics are giving fans what they've craved for decades, but why stop there? Hollywood is sitting on a goldmine. Marvel Studios is trying to regain its momentum after a rocky stretch, while James Gunn's DC Universe is just getting started with Superman. A crossover event on the big screen could be the ultimate box office play, injecting fresh energy into both franchises and breaking records along the way. When previously talking about the idea Gunn said: 'We've talked about it a billion times. That could easily happen, but simultaneous to that, I think it would be interesting. But I also think people are a little over it.' Gunn then offers a smart outlook on things: 'I think people wanna see good stories with their superheroes and that's what matters. And they wanna see different types of stories with their superheroes. And people love superheroes. That's obvious, but they need more variety, and they need just more quality storytelling. 'And just having Spider-Man and Superman team up isn't gonna do it if it's sh-t. So it's gotta come from a real place, and it's really hard to make that work.' I 100% agree, and while it would be pretty awesome to see a Marvel and DC crossover on the big screen, it's not going to happen for a very very long time… if ever. It sure is fun, though, to imagine Wonder Woman and Captain America sharing the screen along with Batman and Deadpool bantering in live-action. It's the kind of cinematic event fans, and box office analysts, dream about. Variant covers tease even more jaw-dropping face-offs: Artgerm pits Magik against Catwoman, Steve McNiven unleashes Wolverine versus Batman, and Peach Momoko pairs Elektra with Batgirl. These aren't just cool covers—they're blueprints for billion-dollar matchups. Do you think the studios should start jumping into this crossovers, or should they stay in their respective universes?

WWE has a tough job on its hands. Following Night 1's explosive main event and surprise ending won't be easy, but Night 2 of SummerSlam has its own lineup of potentially explosive matches. Everyone will be waiting for the John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes main event. There is a chance that we could see all kinds of outside interference in this Street Fight. I'd be surprised if WWE didn't at least try to match what they accomplished on Saturday night with Seth Rollins' cash-in. That said, keep an eye on the TLC Six-Pack Tag Team Match. The number of athletes combined with the stipulations has my expectations freakishly high for this one. I'm hoping Nathan Frazer, nor anyone he's in a spot with, gets injured. Frazer is a bullet when he's in the ring, and sometimes I worry he's moving a little too fast. It's happened before. Hopefully, he has it all under control and his brilliance will shine through. I'm also fired up for Naomi's title defense against IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley. Naomi is on a run that is similar to what Liv Morgan experienced in 2024, when she was my Female WWE Superstar of the Year. If Naomi can keep the title through the next two PLEs and continues to do the character work that she's done recently, she'll have the spot on lock. Lastly, my eyes are wide open for the Steel Cage Match between Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa. The latter has found a way to re-invent himself with some humor, and he now has another faction. I could see either person going over, but it could be time to elevate Jacob into the premier title picture. Yadadamean? Be on the lookout for a post-PLE awards piece.
