Palace lose appeal against Europa League demotion at CAS
UEFA demoted Palace while allowing Olympique Lyonnais to play in the Europa League as, at the time of assessment on March 1, the Eagle Football Group were majority owners of Lyon while their chairman John Textor owned a controlling stake in Palace.
Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, will replace Palace in the Europa League.
"After considering the evidence, the panel found that John Textor, founder of Eagle Football Holdings, had shares in CPFC and OL and was a board member with decisive influence over both clubs at the time of UEFA's assessment date," the CAS said in a statement.
"The panel also dismissed the argument by CPFC that they received unfair treatment in comparison to Nottingham Forest and OL."
Palace did not respond to a request for comment. Club chairman Steve Parish told reporters on Sunday that if Palace lost the appeal, they would "have to look if there's any steps after that."
The club, who qualified for the Europa League as FA Cup winners, appealed against UEFA's decision last month.
The appeal came days before New York Jets co-owner Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson completed the purchase of Eagle Football Holdings' stake in Palace.
Textor has also resigned from Lyon's board of directors with Michele Kang appointed chairwoman and president.
As both Lyon and Palace had qualified for the Europa League, the French club were allowed to keep their place because they had finished higher in their respective league. Lyon finished sixth in Ligue 1 while Palace were 12th in the Premier League.
"Olympique Lyonnais welcomes today's decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirming its participation in the Europa League," Lyon said in a statement.
Palace, who won the Community Shield on Sunday beating Liverpool in a penalty shootout, are set to play in the Conference League's qualifying playoff round later this month.

Justin Rose clinches dramatic St. Jude FedEx Championship win in playoff thriller
Justin Rose (Eng) continued his fine form and made up a three-shot deficit over the last five holes against his fellow countryman Tommy Fleetwood, and then made two birdies in a three-hole playoff against US Open champion J.J. Spaun (US) to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind on the PGA Tour. Rose delivered another impressive performance, closing with a 3 under 67 for his 24th victory worldwide that puts him back into the top 10 in the OWGR at age 45 and secures his spot in another Ryder Cup for Team Europe. Perhaps lost in Rose's remarkable rally was another disappointment for Dubai-based Fleetwood seeking his first PGA Tour title, especially when his 35-foot birdie on the 12th was the first of three birdies in a four-hole stretch that gave him a two-shot lead over the rest with just three holes to play. But he had to scramble for par on hole 16 and was between clubs on the 17th, hit a poor shot and missed his par attempt from seven feet for bogey. Needing a birdie on the 18th to have a chance, he drove into a bunker. Fleetwood shot 69 and finished one shot out of the play-off alongside Scottie Scheffler, who had to settle for a 67 but kept up his remarkable streak of form this season. Fleetwood's statistics make for remarkable reading, and his time must come soon: the 34-year-old has now made 161 PGA Tour starts without a win. He has six runner-up finishes, six third-place finishes, 29 top fives and 42 top 10s. He has eight wins worldwide, but none on American soil. 'There's a lot of positives to take, as much as I won't feel like that right now. I'm just going to look at what I feel like I could have done and how close it was,' Fleetwood said. Bud Cauley was on the bubble to finish in the top 50 in the FedEx Cup when he holed a bunker shot for birdie on the 17th hole and locked up his spot for the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs next week outside Baltimore. Rickie Fowler, who missed the postseason last year, shot 69 to tie for sixth and advance to the BMW Championship. Others who moved into the top 50 were Kurt Kitayama, Jhonattan Vegas and J.T. Poston. He followed with two more short birdies, and then poured in a 15-footer on the 17th for his fourth in a row. 'This is going to be a fun one for us to celebrate,' Rose said. UAE's nuclear contribution to electricity, from zero to 23%
As the world records higher temperatures every year, the attempt to switch or reduce the complete energy dependence on fossil fuels has become a priority. Out of all of the options available, nuclear energy stands out. In August 2020, the first unit of the Barakah Nuclear Plant started generating electricity, contributing to 1.1 per cent of the electricity production. In 2024, with three more operating units, the share was 22.9 per cent. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says 31 countries worldwide operate more than 400 nuclear reactors for electricity generation, and some of those countries rely on them for more than 50 per cent of their electricity production, with France the most reliant. It took the UAE four years to achieve this milestone, a growth rate distinguishable from other countries with a longer history of generating electricity from nuclear energy, such as the US and the UK. Development background The Bakarah Nuclear Plant started life in December 2009, when the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation awarded a $20 billion bid to the Korea Electric Power Corporation to build the first nuclear power plant in the UAE. The nuclear plant consists of four units equipped with the APR-1400 reactor, one of the most advanced in the world, with a design life of 60 years. Coming into operation, it will prevent the release of 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions every year, equivalent to removing 4.8 million cars from the roads.
