Karnataka HC orders police protection, personal gunman for Kannada Sahithya Parishath chief Mahesh Joshis
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has directed the State Government to accord police protection to Kannada Sahithya Parishath (KSP) president Dr Mahesh Joshi and also a personal gunman as and when sought for in view of threat perception.
Justice M Nagaprasanna passed the order recently after going through the threat analysis report placed before the court in response to directions issued on the petition filed by Joshi.
'The report has several instances of threat perception projecting in real-time, but only at particular places in Karnataka.
In light of the threat perception being at several places in Karnataka, I deem it appropriate to direct the state to accord police protection to the petitioner, in terms of the order passed earlier and also provide the services of a personal security/gunman, when the petitioner is wanting to travel in the state, particularly, where the threat to the petitioner is in real-time.
Whenever the petitioner travels, the jurisdictional police, therein shall accord such protection', said the judge while disposing of the petition.
Joshi, after the recent 87th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya, had said that he has been receiving serious threats to his life from the vested interests who tried to create a disturbance before the sammelana.

Chhattisgarh High Court stays transfer of Vet Officer over 'violation' of Scheduled Area posting guidelines; committee told to decide in 15 days RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh High Court has stayed the transfer order of a deputy director of veterinary services, Balrampur-Ramanujganj, who challenged his posting to a scheduled area. The 63 year-old petitioner, through his counsel Mateen Siddiqui, contended that his transfer to Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district is contrary to the state government's guidelines for postings in such areas. The Single Bench of Justice Bibhu Datta Guru observed, 'It appears from the pleadings that the petitioner who has discharged maximum part of his duty in the scheduled area. Presently, he has been again transferred to a scheduled area which appears to be contrary to the guidelines dated 03.06.2015, hence the petitioner is directed to approach the committee constituted by the State Government on 03.03.2025 within a period of 5 days and in case the petitioner approached the said committee, the said committee shall consider the representation and grievance of the petitioner in accordance with law as well as the guidelines dated 03.06.2015 within a further period of 15 days. Till the decision of the Committee the impugned order dated 05.03.2025 shall remain stayed till the decision of the Committee.' The petitioner, who has served a significant part of his tenure in scheduled areas, argued that the transfer order dated 5 March 2025 violates the guidelines issued on 3 June 2015. Bengaluru stampede: Secretary, treasurer of Karnataka State Cricket Association resign
The secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association have resigned from their posts, taking 'moral responsibility' for the stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that killed 11 persons and injured more than 50, reported PTI on Saturday. '…due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts,' stated the secretary, A Shankar, and treasurer ES Jairam on Friday. The stampede took place on Wednesday at Gate Number 3 of the stadium, where fans had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the Indian Premier League and welcome the team. Shankar and Jairam's resignation came a day after the Karnataka High Court granted interim protection from arrest to senior officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, provided that they cooperate with the police, reported The Indian Express. The cricket association and the Royal Challengers Bangalore cricket team had approached the High Court in connection with the first information reports filed against them, The Indian Express reported. They had moved the court seeking that the case against them be quashed. On Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda and several police officers. On Friday, the Karnataka Police arrested four persons, including Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks' Sunil Mathew, Kiran and Sumanth. Siddaramaiah also announced a judicial probe into the stampede, to be headed by retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice Michael D'Cunha. This inquiry will run alongside the earlier magisterial investigation already assigned to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Dayananda K Jagadeesha, The News Minute reported.
