The NBA is not only about the fights among teams for the title from the start of the season to its end. It continues to entertain basketball fans long after the season. Due to the hype created and the fans' love for basketball stars, dunk contests have become an integral part of NBA culture.
To date, 38 NBA Slam Dunk contests have been organized.
The first Slam Dunk contest was held in 1984, which was won by Larry Nance. Since then, the All-Star break has become a moment every bona fide NBA lover looks forward to. The popularity of Slam Dunk events can be gauged from the fact that even the legends like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant looked forward to participating in them.
Recently, during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, Mac McClung won the Slam Dunk contest.
He became the first ever player to have won three contests in a row. Also, he equaled Nate Robinson's record of winning three Slam Dunk contests.
Let's take a look at the most talked-about NBA slam dunk contests that helped star players establish themselves as undisputable kings of the court.

This duel still makes a place in the discussions whenever memorable moments from the NBA are talked about.

2008 - Winner Dwight Howard's 'Superman' moment made it unforgettable

Judges gave a perfect 50 for his Supermanly show. Magic Johnson and the crowd erupted, 'It's over!'
Another high point of the contest was the 'Birthday Cake' dunk.

With the introduction of props and costumes, drama became an element of dunk culture after this contest.
2020 - Derrick Jones Jr face-off against Aaron Gordon, leading to tie-breaker
Derrick Jones Jr and Aaron Gordon gave a tough fight to each other, leading the contest to a tie-breaker. Jones Jr and Gordon scored perfect 50s back-to-back in the final round, which required a tie-breaker dunk to decide the winner.
In the final dunk, Gordon leaped over 7'5' Tacko Fall to score a dunk. It was awarded 47 points, which stirred reactions from fans. They thought it was an unfair decision to rob Gordon of the three points. Jones Jr won the final dunk and the contest by scoring a perfect 50.
2023 - A complete Mac McClung Show
Philadelphia 76ers' Mac McClung ruled the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk contest with his sheer brilliance. He made a historic 99.8 score, the highest for the starting round in the contest.
In the final round, too, he repeated the magic and scored two perfect 50s, culminating his journey in a phenomenal win.
McClung made the winning dunk in his high school jersey; it was a 540-degree dunk and earned him the victory in the contest. He started a new trend by becoming the first G-League player to receive an invitation to the contest.

Yankees insider reveals why Marcus Stroman's future is now in danger after Ryan Yarbrough's big game
Yankees insider reveals why Marcus Stroman's future is now in danger after Ryan Yarbrough's big game (Image via Getty) There's growing talk in New York about a star pitcher possibly losing his place. Fans have started to notice something is off. A strong name like Marcus Stroman, once expected to lead, is now missing from action. A few days off can change everything in sports, and insiders now say Stroman may be on the edge of something much bigger than just a short break. Marcus Stroman's struggle with Yankees raises serious questions On April 12, 2025, Marcus Stroman, the veteran pitcher for the New York Yankees, was placed on the injured list due to knee inflammation. Before that, his performance was disappointing, with an ERA of 11.57 in just three starts. After signing a $37 million, two-year deal with the team before the 2024 season, this was far from what the Yankees had hoped for. He didn't even pitch during the team's 2024 playoff run. — msports_all (@msports_all) In a recent episode of the 'Locked On Yankees' podcast, sports insider Brian McKeon shared a strong opinion. He said Stroman 'feels like he's been Wally Pipped almost off this roster.' The Wally Pipp reference goes back to a moment in Yankees history where one player missed a game due to a headache and was replaced forever. McKeon said, 'I'm going to be honest with you… I don't know what the role is for Marcus Stroman.' Earlier this year in spring training, Stroman clearly said he would not pitch from the bullpen. But now he's changed his view, saying he's 'open to anything.' That change may not be enough, though. Also Read: Yankees' Aaron Boone Calls Out Umps For 'No Courage' After Heated 10th‑Inning Ejection In Yankees‑Red Sox Game Ryan Yarbrough's rise may seal Marcus Stroman's fate The main reason insiders believe Stroman could be done in New York is the strong performance of Ryan Yarbrough, who stepped up in Stroman's absence. Yarbrough has pitched 50 innings this season with a 3.96 ERA. In early June, he gave up eight runs to the Boston Red Sox, but came back strong in his next start, allowing just one run to the same team. Brian McKeon added, 'There is less than a 0% chance they platoon Yarbrough and Stroman.' Manager Aaron Boone also praised Yarbrough publicly, saying, 'Yarbs has done a great job for us.' Boone mentioned his soft-pitch style and called him 'a guy who keeps hitters off balance.' Right now, the Yankees have five solid starting pitchers, including Carlos Rodón, Max Fried, and Clarke Schmidt. Will Warren, a young talent, is also making his case. Luis Gil, last year's AL Rookie of the Year, is set to return around the All-Star break, and Gerrit Cole will be back next season. With so much depth, there might not be room for Stroman anymore.

Is Saquon Barkley retiring? The Philadelphia Eagles' running back's eerie remarks leaves fans questioning
Saquon Barkley's recent comments about a sudden retirement sparked a frenzy (Image via AP) Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley may have sparked a social media frenzy with his recent comments about retirement, but those closest to him aren't hitting the panic button just yet. In fact, two of his Eagles teammates—Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship—believe the media and fans are reading too much into a casual reflection from the star rusher. Saquon Barkley says retirement could come 'out of nowhere' like Barry Sanders Saquon Barkley's comments came during an appearance on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, where he shared how he envisions stepping away from football someday. SAQUON BARKLEY'S Madden 26 Cover & Philadelphia Eagles Dominance + Big Dom Eats Cannolis 'I'll probably be one of those guys that it'll be out of nowhere,' Barkley said. 'I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or two years or four years, and just be like, 'Yeah it's over.' I don't think I will ever lose that passion. I'm just a competitor... One of my favorite players of all time, probably my favorite player of all time, is Barry Sanders, so probably similar to that. Maybe one day it will be out of nowhere. I'll probably be balling and just be like, yeah, and call it quits.' While the internet erupted with theories suggesting Barkley might be planning an imminent departure from the game, the full context of his remarks paints a different picture. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo At 28, Barkley is still in his prime, and his passion for the game remains evident. Teammates say saq7Barkley's not leaving anytime soon During an episode of the Exciting Mics podcast, Eagles defenders Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship weighed in on the sudden buzz and offered their take—based on daily experience with Barkley himself. I think (Darius Slay) has said that before. You know (Brandon Graham), people like that. I mean, if it's over, it's over.' 'I don't think it's anytime soon,' DeJean added. 'No, no, I don't think so either,' Blankenship concluded. 'He's in a great position where if he was, he's put his time in, man.'
