Tsunami watch for Hawaii canceled after 7.4 magnitude quake off Russia
'Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat to the state of Hawaii, ' the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said at 9 :42 p.m. 'Therefore, the tsunami watch for Hawaii is now canceled. This will be the final message.'
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a swarm of earthquakes—ranging from magnitude 4.7 to 7.4—struck an area about 100 miles east of Kamchatka on the east coast of Russia.

'Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter, ' PTWC officials on Oahu said. 'An investigation is underway to determine i f there is a tsunami threat to Hawaii.'
'Further messages will be issued hourly or sooner as condition warrant until the threat to Hawaii has passed.'
