Central official discusses simplification of laws with Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary
Mr. Govil, who is also a member of the Task Force Committee on Deregulation and Compliance Reduction under Ease of Trade, said Andhra Pradesh was at the forefront in making the required changes in laws in line with deregulation and compliance reduction.
Steps are being taken to ensure benefits to the people by making changes, additions and simplifications in the old laws in tune with the Central government laws as part of ease of trade, he said.
He suggested that the States should strictly adhere to the National Building and take appropriate measures for fire safety in multi- storey buildings.
Mr. Vijayanand stated that the State government was taking steps towards deregulation and compliance reduction of various laws.
Changes have been made to 76 laws. The government took the lead in bringing technology closer to the people and providing better services timely, espcially through WhatsApp governance through which 520 services have been made available, he said.
Steps were being taken to make digital technologies available in every government department. The necessary clearances were being given in a time-bound manner through the single window system to achieve the objective of the Speed of Doing Business.
Special Chief Secretary (Environment, Forest and Science & Technology) G. Anantha Ramu, Principal Secretaries Kumar Vishwajeeth (Home), S. Suresh Kumar (Municipal Administration), and Secretary N. Yuvaraj (Industries) and other senior officials took part in the meeting.

Complete 10 lakh houses by March 2026: Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to expedite housing projects to ensure every poor family in the State gets a home, setting an ambitious target of completing 10 lakh houses by March 2026. During a review meeting with the Housing Department officials at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, he instructed that 3 lakh houses be ready for housewarming ceremonies next month, and an additional 2 lakh by Sankranti. He emphasised categorisation of ongoing projects into A, B and C groups to streamline construction. Naidu ordered a 15-day survey to identify poor families without houses, and compile a list, assuring allotment of 2 cents of land in urban areas, and 3 cents in rural areas to beneficiaries as promised. He suggested exploring joint housing for large families, and phased funding for NTR Housing projects. Under PMAY (Urban), PMAY (Rural), and PM Janman, 18,59,504 houses have been sanctioned for AP, with 9,51,351 completed, including 2.81 lakh this year. Another 19,000 houses will be ready by next month. The government spent `2,013.50 crore on housing last year, with `3,296.58 crore allocated for basic infrastructure in 4,305 layouts where over 50% of construction is complete. Payments of `919.29 crore for 2,73,709 beneficiaries, including `16.37 crore for 4,647 in Kuppam, are slated for release soon. Additionally, `100 crore for 15,753 PM Janman houses, and `75 crore for 15,582 PMAY (Rural) houses have been approved. However, 1,84,510 PMAY (Urban) beneficiaries have not yet started construction, officials informed. For TIDCO projects, tenders were called for 4,54,706 houses across 104 urban local bodies in 2018. Of these, 1,77,546 houses—45,848 (300 sq ft), 12,550 (365 sq ft), and 25,172 (430 sq ft)—totaling 83,570, have been handed over to beneficiaries so far. Another 84,094 TIDCO houses are nearing completion. Naidu's focus on housing reflects the government's commitment to uplifting the poor through robust infrastructure development.

Better road connectivity will bring more jobs to rural TG: Komatireddy
Hyderabad: Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Tuesday said that quality road connectivity must be the government's top priority, as it holds the key to drawing industries and employment to rural Telangana. Speaking at the Infrastructure & Capital Works Ministers' Committee meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka at the State Secretariat, the Minister said that strong road networks from the State capital to district and mandal centres will take industries into villages, creating jobs locally. 'People should feel confident that employment is possible anywhere in Telangana, not just in the capital,' he said. Calling roads 'the first priority for people,' the Minister said that they directly impact public transport, emergency services and perceptions of government efficiency. 'In emergencies, the speed of an ambulance is judged by the quality of roads. That is why the government must not hesitate to spend on this sector,' he remarked. Pushing for rapid execution of road projects under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), Minister Venkat Reddy promised accident-free roads within three years. He also stressed that timely payments to contractors are essential to remove uncertainty in the system and build confidence among stakeholders, while pointing out that, financial mismanagement by the previous government had created hurdles which the present administration is determined to overcome with a people-first approach. The meeting was attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, along with Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior officials and Secretaries of various departments.

W.B. CM announces scheme for migrant workers facing harassment in other States
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (August 18, 2025) announced a new scheme to provide monthly cash incentives to migrant workers who return to the State after facing harassment in other States. Speaking to journalists at the State Secretariat, Ms. Banerjee said the scheme will be called Shramashree and will provide a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 to such migrant workers for up to one year till they get a job. The Chief Minister said the migrant workers and their families will get benefits of other schemes of the State government as well, including ration cards and Swastha Sathi free healthcare scheme cards. 'All 22,40,000 workers who are outside Bengal will get the benefits of Shramshree. Those who have not registered their names will be able to register their names,' Ms. Banerjee said. The Chief Minister said about 10,000 persons have returned to the State in the past few months after being targeted in different States. 'The number of those who have returned to the State in the last few days is about 10,000. If they register their names on the Shramshree portal, they will be given a card. As a result, they will access facilities of the State government,' Ms. Banerjee said. Hundreds of Bengali-speaking migrants have faced detention and harassment in different States across the country and were asked to produce documents to prove that they were not Bangladeshi nationals. Some of the workers from West Bengal have said they were deported to Bangladesh but later repatriated with the help of Indian authorities. Despite harassment, many migrant workers have returned to their place of work, saying there are no employment opportunities in West Bengal. The Trinamool has said that the migrant workers have been targeted for speaking in Bengali and has launched a 'language movement'. AIIMS Kalyani survey The Chief Minister also alleged that the door-to-door mental health survey, conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Kalyani (AIIMS Kalyani) was an 'indirect' way of facilitating the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in the State. 'In the name of a mental health survey, AIIMS Kalyani is indirectly surveying for the NRC. If any organisation reaches your house in the name of a survey, please verify it with the State government first,' Ms. Banerjee said. The Chief Minister also urged the people to be alert and not share details with anybody other than officials of the State government. Officials of the AIIMS Kalyani, which is located in State's Nadia district, said it has been conducting the study in seven districts of West Bengal as part of the second phase of the National Mental Health Survey (NMHS), under the guidance of a senior official of the State government's Health and Family Welfare Department.
