If only England could give Harry Kane the platform that Bayern Munich do
A s Harry Kane took the game away from Flamengo a second time, a troubling thought occurred. Maybe it's not him, after all. Maybe it's us. This, after all, was summer time in Florida. Oppressive humidity, stifling heat. It was 31C in Miami on Sunday afternoon. No doubt hotter on the pitch at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Yet Kane, in the shirt of Bayern Munich, was supreme. He looked smart, clinical, alert. With a game to be won, Vincent Kompany would never imagine taking him off. Flamengo did their best to shackle him, but without success. His deflected goal gave Munich an early two-goal lead and, following a brief revival, a quite splendid second made it 4-2 with 17 minutes remaining. Kane barely glanced at the target as he shot. The stadium was full of raucous Brazilians, not so many Germans and locals going with the flow, but the stand-out player was an Englishman. Flamengo were good enough to beat Chelsea but Bayern were a step up, and Kane just unstoppable.
