Tom Reilley, Hilton Head icon and founder of St. Patty's Day Parade passes away at 78

Yahoo03-05-2025

Tom Reilley, founder of Coastal Restaurants and Bars, passed away Friday at the TidePointe retirement community on Hilton Head Island. He was 78 and died with family members by his side, his son Brendan said.
His restaurant empire spans eight restaurants with 11 locations on Hilton Head Island, including The Crazy Crab, Benny's Coastal Kitchen, and The Old Oyster Factory.
In March, Tom's wife Diane Reilley told The Island Packet that he had been in intensive care since mid-February.
A celebration of life is planned for Tom, with the date to be determined, according to Brendan.
Brendan said his father was a 'great man.' He had seven children but was 'a father figure to so many more.'
Tom and wife Diane opened their first restaurant, Reilley's Grill and Bar, in 1982, the same year the the four-lane fixed span bridge was built to Hilton Head Island. His restaurant business grew with the increasing popularity of the area to both visitors and a growing population of local residents.
The restauranteur also founded Hilton Head's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade that just celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.
He was awarded the John Curry Tourism Award by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce in 2018.
Veteran Island Packet columnist David Lauderdale wrote in March of this year when Tom's wife Diane was named grand marshal of the 40th annual parade, 'The parade has grown like the Reilley family, and like their business that today is known as Coastal Restaurants and Bars. With various investors and partners, the group now has 11 restaurants, including the two Crazy Crab locations, Benny's Coastal Kitchen, the Old Oyster Factory, and Fish Camp locations on Hilton Head and in the town of Port Royal outside of Beaufort.'
Lauderdale continued in his March column about the couple, 'Diane and Tom came from Rhode Island in 1977, with no plans to stay on Hilton Head, a place with a swing-span bridge and one traffic light. They weren't yet married, and they had no game plan. But it was February and they were glad to get away from the cold. They stayed with Tom's late sister Mary Rankin and her husband Bill, then a golf pro.'
'They got married by a justice of the peace in Charleston, and later celebrated it with a ceremony at Holy Family Catholic Church. They bought their own place down the street from Mary in the Squiresgate neighborhood, and Tom bought a vintage red Mustang convertible, which became his pride and joy.'
'He treated everyone he met like one of his own,' Brendan wrote in a text message Friday. 'He cared about the community, his friends and his family. He will be missed dearly.'

Ford executive says automaker has competitive edge against tariffs, will adjust operations

Ford executive says automaker has competitive edge against tariffs, will adjust operations Show Caption Hide Caption Ford Motor Company: Understanding the automaker's history, legacy Explore the rich history of Ford Motor Company, from its groundbreaking assembly line innovations to iconic cars like the Model T, Mustang, and F-150. Ford seeks to leverage its U.S. manufacturing base and explore opportunities presented by the changing trade environment. While committed to EVs, Ford has reduced investment in EV development due to decreased demand. Ford Motor Co. will adjust its operations and footprint over the next 12 to 24 months to find ways to mitigate the costs from President Donald Trump's tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts. It is also focused on continued development of electric vehicles, even as demand for EVs softens and emissions policies could shift. Those are two of the highlights from a broad-reaching interview May 28 between Ford Vice Chairman John Lawler and autos analyst Daniel Roeska at the Bernstein 41st Annual Strategic Decisions Conference. Roeska quizzed Lawler about Ford's plans to address tariffs if the duties continue and about the automaker's commitment to EVs. In April, Trump imposed 25% tariffs — taxes an importer pays when goods cross international borders — on vehicles imported into the United States and imported parts that are not compliant with the United States Mexico Canada Trade Agreement. In its first-quarter earnings report on May 5, Ford said tariffs dented its adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) by $200 million in the quarter. The company suspended its financial guidance for 2025 due to tariff uncertainty. But it said it expected tariffs to inflict a $1.5 billion hit to the automaker's adjusted EBIT for the full year. In case you missed it: Ford to hike prices on these models, including the 'most affordable pickup in America.' Are tariffs to blame? Ford's latest take on tariffs Lawler said Ford has a competitive advantage against tariffs at the moment because about 80% of the vehicles Ford sells in the states are also made here. Still, Lawler said the company has not moved from its anticipated net hit to earnings of $1.5 billion from tariffs. He added, however, "we're continuing to work on that and understand that." "We're continuing to leverage our competitive advantage in our footprint to try to identify opportunities for us over the next 12 to 24 months where we can take advantage of the shifting environment," Lawler said. Lawler did not provide specifics on what Ford is doing to leverage its competitive advantage, but when asked whether he believed Ford could take action that would reduce the impact tariffs will have on the company's costs, Lawler said yes. "Part of that is when you look at the parts, pushing more of those parts to be USMCA-compliant, that's a tack that we can take," Lawler said. "We can onshore parts that aren't onshored today, although a large percentage of our parts are. So those are different tactics that we can take working with the supply base to minimize some of that impact." Lawler said Ford is going to continue to work on "all of the levers" it can tweak to reduce its exposure to tariffs. "Then we'll also have to look at the go-to-market end of it as well and are there going to be additional opportunities there beyond what we've identified so far," Lawler said. "And a lot of that also is going to be the reactions of counter-tariffs and other things that happened there, and what does that mean for us and then how will we adjust to that? So it's a dynamic environment." Lawler said Ford is looking at areas "on the top line as well as on the cost side" and in its footprint now to offset the impact of tariffs. Ford's EV agenda In the interview May 28, Roeska asked about the other change expected from the new Trump administration: A deemphasis on the transition to EVs and a possible phaseout of the incentives President Joe Biden put in place, incentives that have helped spur EV adoption. There has also been talk of rolling back the Environmental Protection Agency targets making it less urgent for automakers to offer zero-emissions vehicles to meet compliancy goals. Lawler said Ford's long-term views on EVs has not changed despite any of those possibilities. He said the demand for EVs has softened in the past 12 to 18 months and Ford, along with the rest of the industry, has adjusted to that by reducing the cash it invests in EV development. "But we're not pulling back completely on investing. So they're going to come and we're really excited about the Advanced EV team in California and what they're developing for us, for our next generation of EVs," Lawler said. "We think those are going to be a game changer." Ford's all-electric vehicle lineup currently includes the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and the E-Transit van. Lawler said Ford is "leaning into" its hybrid technologies, which offers consumers a transition to full electrification. Ford remains committed to creating more affordable EVs as well, he said, believing affordability will increase adoption. "We believe that where we're shifting our focus on EVs to small, more affordable, mainstream products versus what others and what the industry has leaned into so far when it comes to EVs, we think those are all opportunities for us in that the EV horizon, although it's flattened out, it's still going to, it's going to shift. It's going to happen," Lawler said. "It's just going to take longer." Jamie L. LaReau is the senior autos writer who covers Ford Motor Co. for the Detroit Free Press. Mustang Energy Corp. Enters Option Agreements with Thunderbird Resources Ltd.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 04, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mustang Energy Corp. (CSE:MEC, OTC:MECPF, FRA:92T) ('Mustang' or the 'Company') is excited to announce that it has entered into two strategic option agreements with Thunderbird Resources Ltd. ('Thunderbird') to acquire an undivided 80% interest in certain mineral tenements held by Thunderbird located in the Athabasca Basin of Northern Saskatchewan (the 'Project'). The Option marks an important step for Mustang as it continues to expand and build its land package in this promising uranium district. The Company entered into an option agreement (the 'Cluff Lake Agreement') with Thunderbird, dated June 3, 2025, to acquire an undivided 80% interest (the 'Cluff Lake Option') in certain mineral tenements held by Thunderbird in and around Cluff Lake (the 'Cluff Lake Project'). Concurrently with the Cluff Lake Agreement, the Company entered into a second option agreement (the 'Surprise Creek Agreement', and together with the Cluff Lake Agreement, the 'Agreements') with Thunderbird, dated June 3, 2025, to acquire an undivided 80% interest (the 'Surprise Creek Option', and together with the Cluff Lake Option, the 'Option') in certain mineral tenements held by Thunderbird in and around Surprise Creek, Pring Lake, and Ellis Bay/Bob Lake (the 'Surprise Creek Project'). 'We are excited to partner with Thunderbird Resources on the Cluff Lake North and Surprise Creek Projects. This agreement advances Mustang's Athabasca Basin strategy. With a strong foundation in place through targeted claim staking and acquiring early-stage projects, we're now focused on advancing high-priority, drill-ready assets. Our technical team is developing plans for field programs at Cluff Lake North and Surprise Creek Projects to refine drill targets and evaluate underexplored structural corridors with strong discovery potential,' said Nicholas Luksha, CEO of Mustang Energy Corp. Cluff Lake North Uranium Project The Cluff Lake Project comprises a group of five mineral claims located in a highly prospective area around 12km north-east of the historical Cluff Lake uranium mine on the western flank of Canada's world-class Athabasca 1: Cluff Lake North Project Overview5 Thunderbird completed a MobileMT survey in 2024 which delineated several basement conductors in the Moose Lake area of the project, which are potential pathways for uranium mineralising fluids (see ASX: THB announcement dated 17th October 2024 titled 'Multiple Uranium targets identified by detailed EM surveys at Cluff Lake Project'). In the Moose Lake area, three high-priority drill target areas were defined by the MobileMT survey, one of which is coincident with a previously defined gravity/EM target. These targets are located within an interpreted structural corridor which extends north-northeast from the Cluff Lake Uranium deposits. The targets (ML-01, -02, -03) in this area are both basement-hosted, similar to the Cluff Lake deposits, and unconformity-related (see Figure 2).5Figure 2. Cluff Lake North – Moose Lake area – MobileMT and gravity/EM targets5 Surprise Creek Uranium-Copper Project The Surprise Creek Project is located 25km north-west of the Beaverlodge Uranium District, which hosts the historical uranium mines of Gunnar and Eldorado (Ace-Fay-Verna) and is located just north of the Athabasca Basin. A major high-resolution airborne magnetic, radiometric and VLF-EM survey completed by the Thunderbird in September 2024 identified multiple new uranium targets (see THB:ASX announcement dated 19 December 2024 titled 'Exploration to commence at Rockvale Antimony-Gold Project'). A strong uranium radiometric anomaly has been identified at the previously defined Surprise Creek Fault drill target, where historical drilling returned results of up to 2.1m @ 4.37% U3O8 from 57m1, 6 and surface sampling by Thunderbird returned assays up to 7.98% U3O8.2 The area of surface uranium mineralisation extends over a strike length of up to 500m2 (see Figure 3).1, 2, 6 A work permit application for exploration including drilling at the Surprise Creek Fault prospect has recently been approved by the Saskatchewan 3 – Surprise Creek Project – Surprise Creek Fault prospect1, 2, 6 Many of the radiometric targets identified in the airborne survey show a strong spatial correlation with the contact between the Archean Zemlak Domain basement rocks and the overlying younger Palaeoproterozoic aged Thluicho Lake Group, where cross-cutting structures intersect the contact. In addition, many of the historical copper prospects (Bob Lake, Ellis Bay, Waterloo South) are also associated with the same contact (see Figure 4). Historical drilling results from Bob Lake and Ellis Bay include: 9.1m @ 2.07% Cu and 27.3g/t Ag from surface (Bob Lake)3 6.6m @ 1.31% Cu from 11m (Ellis Bay)3 Rock chip sampling of historical copper occurrences completed by Thunderbird in 2022 and 2023 returned assays up 61.7% Cu, 27.6% Cu and 9% Cu.2,4Figure 4 – Surprise Creek Project – copper results from historical drilling3, 4, 6, 7 References ASX:THB announcement dated 6th July 2022 titled 'Surprise Creek data review highlights high-grade targets'2 ASX:THB announcement dated 22 December 2022 titled 'High-grade Uranium rock chip results at Surprise Creek'3 ASX:THB announcement dated 13th February 2023 titled 'Exciting Copper Targets at Surprise Creek'4 ASX:THB announcement dated 13th October 2022 titled 'Exceptional Uranium and Copper Rock chip results'5 Saskatchewan Mineral Deposits Index, Trench OHT-1 (U-Pb), SMDI# 2068, Retrieved from Saskatchewan Mineral Assessment Database Drill hole VT20, SMAD# 74N10-0368, Retrieved from Saskatchewan Mineral Assessment Database, SMAD# 74N11-0063, Retrieved from Cluff Lake Option Pursuant to the Cluff Lake Agreement, Mustang can acquire an 80% interest in the Cluff Lake Project, which spans a total of 13,977 hectares, by satisfying the following conditions: Share Issuance: Mustang will issue common shares (each, a 'Share') with a total value of CAD$200,000.
