WWE making SmackDown runtime change soon
Those who believe WWE Friday Night SmackDown runs too long at three hours will be happy to know its runtime will soon be shortened to two hours.

It appears WWE will move SmackDown back to two hours on Friday, August 15, 2025. Dave Meltzer posted about this on X, formerly Twitter, citing a report from Variety.
'Variety reported The Rainmaker (having nothing to do with [Kazuchika] Okada) debuts on USA on 8/15 at 10 p.m.,' his post began. 'That would indicate SmackDown goes back to two hours that night.'
Of course, SmackDown currently holds USA's 8-11 pm EST time slot every Friday. With The Rainmaker coming and presumably debuting new episodes every Friday at 10 pm, SmackDown will need to wrap up by then.
WWE has not confirmed the report. There is a chance they make the move sooner. Either way, it appears SmackDown will revert to its two-hour format by August 15 at the latest.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown's controversial three-hour runtime
SmackDown moved to USA Network in October 2024 after spending the last five years on FOX. Monday Night RAW was gearing up for its move to Netflix in January 2025, and WWE moved its Friday night program to USA.
In early January, WWE made SmackDown a three-hour program on USA. That gave the show an extra hour of programming, but it is largely taken up by recaps and highlights from past shows. The extra hour could give other Superstars a chance to shine, but that is not what it has usually been used for.
Now, it will revert to its two-hour format. Hopefully, WWE will be able to regain their footing with the pacing of the show. We will have to see how they pivot once they lose the extra hour of programming.

Meanwhile, WWE has more leniency on Netflix with RAW. Unlike SmackDown, RAW does not have a strict broadcast slot. It begins at 8 pm EST every Monday Night, but it can end whenever WWE wants.

"My mom chose my first and last name to be, well, okay, arguably chose my first and last name to both have [two letter R's]," she recalled. "She was like, 'Alliteration, just in case she wants to be a pop star' before I was born." Though Rapp admitted that her mom's decision was "conceited," she is "obsessed with the way [her mother] did it." "I'm like, thank you, God," she added. Poehler, 53, was impressed with how things came to be. "She gave you a pop star name just in case, because Reneé Rapp is a huge pop star name," the Parks and Recreation star said. Rapp, who released her album Snow Angel in August 2023, told PEOPLE about the inspiration behind the project. "All the songs I write obviously are about things that I've been through personally, but I think that any relationship I've ever had in my life is all culminated into one on this project and in these songs," she said at the time. The Social Network saga isn't over just yet, and the next chapter might have a new face for Mark Zuckerberg. Word is, Jeremy Strong is the frontrunner to play the embattled tech mogul in The Social Network Part II , a follow-up to the acclaimed 2010 film that dove into the turbulent origins of Facebook. According to multiple sources, Strong hasn't officially signed on, but insiders say he's the top pick for the role. Given his Emmy-winning performance in Succession , where he played a character navigating ruthless corporate waters, it's easy to imagine him stepping into Zuckerberg's world of controversy and control. But, I would've still liked to see Jesse Eisenberg reprise the role. This new film, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, isn't a direct sequel but a continuation of the story. Instead of revisiting Facebook's early years, The Social Network Part II will explore more recent events tied to the company now known as Meta. The story is inspired by the Wall Street Journal 's 2021 exposé The Facebook Files by Jeff Horwitz, a hard-hitting series that shed light on Facebook's internal chaos and its impact on users worldwide. Sorkin's decision to return to the Facebook story came after years of weighing how to tackle the next phase. With the script locked and production gaining momentum, Sorkin is teaming up with producers Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser to bring the project to life. It was previously reported that Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison are also top choices for major roles. White would portray Horwitz, the journalist behind the Facebook Files , while Madison is being considered for the whistleblower who exposed the inner workings of the social media giant.
