MBRF organizes interactive seminar in Egypt attended by prominent journalists and media figures
The seminar was held in the presence of His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, alongside a distinguished group of senior journalists, media professionals, and university professors from Egypt. The session was moderated by Dr. Khaled Azab, who highlighted Dubai as a center of intellect, knowledge, and cultural progress, rather than just a city known for its skyscrapers.
H.E. Jamal bin Huwaireb said: 'We are deeply proud of Dubai, its heritage, its history, and its enduring legacy, which reflect its continuous journey of development and modernization across various fields since the honorable Maktoum family took leadership. Today, Dubai is a thriving hub for trade and entrepreneurship, and it hosts the region's largest international exhibition center. At MBRF, we find inspiration in the vision and achievements of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and remain dedicated to the path set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, whose leadership continues to propel nation-building, comprehensive progress, and sustainable development.'
During the seminar, Mahmoud Bassiouni, Editor-in-Chief of Akhbar El-Youm, highlighted the journey of the late Sheikh Rashid while acknowledging Dubai's tangible achievements. Meanwhile, Dr. Mohamed Afifi, Professor of History, noted that Dubai is a historic place that has transformed into an industrial city. He also suggested establishing a chair named after the late Sheikh Rashid at one of Egypt's universities.
Furthermore, Dr. Mohamed Showman, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Mass Communication at El Shorouk Academy, suggested creating a drama that depicts the life of Sheikh Rashid. Dr. Mohamed El-Baz emphasized the importance of sharing Sheikh Rashid's lasting legacy with future generations through an exclusive documentary series. Meanwhile, Dr. Mahmoud Hussein, known as the Dean of Translators, highlighted the value of applying Sheikh Rashid's approach in youth development to enhance their skills and foster a sense of belonging to Dubai.
The seminar wrapped up with remarks from journalist Mohamed Kandil, famously known as the 'Sinbad of Journalism,' who shared his impressions of Dubai from his first visit in 1995. He expressed great admiration for the city's impressive achievements, calling it the 'Arab Hong Kong.' He also hoped that other Arab cities would follow Dubai's example in reaching success, development, progress, and prosperity.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) has launched its 'Knowledge Lounge' initiative in Canada, marking a significant step in its efforts to cultivate a culture of Arabic reading. The move also aligns with the initiative's mission to encourage sustainable knowledge development and foster analytical and critical thinking across diverse communities, both regionally and globally. The launch was inaugurated with an initial introductory session held in Toronto, in partnership with the Mosaic Foundation. The event featured Hussein Darwish from the Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW) and Hind Zareef, Director of the Mosaic Foundation. During the session, Hussein Darwish emphasized the Knowledge Lounge as a community-driven knowledge initiative rooted in the belief that knowledge plays a key role in shaping individuals and societies. It also provides a platform for open discussions and interactions among readers, authors, researchers, and experts from various fields. Hind Zareef expressed pride in the Mosaic Foundation's partnership with MBRF, highlighting it as a key contribution to the world of reading and a significant step in showcasing the Arabic language globally. She also emphasized the importance of knowledge-driven collaborations in raising intellectual standards and improving the reading preferences of the Mosaic Foundation's members. Additionally, she stressed the importance of strengthening communication with the Arab world through MBRF and its role in nurturing strong emotional bonds and fostering a shared sense of belonging to a rich civilization that has historically linked East with West and North with South. As part of its initiative, MBRF launched the Knowledge Lounge in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, earlier in March 2025. The move was in collaboration with the Federal Youth Foundation of the UAE, represented by the Global Youth Council in Australia. The expansion reflects MBRF's increasing efforts to broaden the scope of the initiative and reach a larger international audience. His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said: 'The expansion of the Knowledge Lounge initiative to Canada reflects our strategic goal of connecting Arab readers across the globe with their linguistic and intellectual identity. It promotes the sustainability of knowledge and provides communities opportunities to utilize modern reading tools in a supportive environment. Additionally, this move represents a long-term investment in developing minds capable of generating and sharing knowledge, reinforcing MBRF's position as an active contributor in the global knowledge landscape.' Throughout July, the Knowledge Lounge is organizing an engaging series of sessions across various cities in the UAE. In Dubai, the initiative will host a Writing Lounge session focused on Nancy Kress's book on novel-writing techniques, along with discussions on 'Cold Fear', a short story collection by Aisha Sultan, and 'The Year of the Fat Cats' by Abdulwahab Al-Hammadi, both to be held at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library (MBRL). In Khor Fakkan, a session will be held at the Platform Café in the Al-Sidra Heritage Area to discuss 'Margins on Cities, Travel, and Departure' by Aisha Sultan. In Abu Dhabi, a virtual session will focus on 'The Girl on Paper' by Guillaume Musso. Two sessions will be held in Al Ain, one on 'Sugar Street' by Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, and another on 'Truth and Writing' by Bothayna Al-Essa. In Fujairah, the initiative continues its literary engagement with the Free Readings series, providing an in-depth exploration of various literary themes. The program will also tour Sharjah and Ajman with a special session featuring writer Dr. Khaled Al-Salami. In Ras Al Khaimah, Dr. Abeer Al-Rasbi will lead a morning workshop at the Peak Lounge, guiding participants through a symbolic analysis of the book 'Remaining Tattoo'. The Youth Lounge, hosted in partnership with the Al-Naqsh platform, will feature a discussion on 'The Most Splendid Journey' by Fadwa Touqan. UAE among top 20 countries attracting AI talent globally
According to the Global AI Competitiveness Index released by the International Financial Forum in collaboration with the scientific research organisation "Deep Knowledge," the United Arab Emirates has been ranked among the top 20 countries attracting talent in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), with a 0.7% share of global AI talent. The UAE also ranks first in the Arab world and 16th globally, emerging as a key player in the global AI landscape. The United States leads globally with a 32.6% share of the world's AI talent, while Saudi Arabia ranks 19th globally and second regionally, with a 0.4% share. The top 20 countries attracting AI talent are the United States with a share of 32.6%, Mainland China with 24.4%, India with 7.0%, United Kingdom with 5.0%, Canada with 3.5%, Germany with 3.0%, France with 2.5%, Israel with 2.2%, Japan with 2.0%, South Korea with 1.8%, Singapore with 1.5%, Australia 1.3%, Netherlands 1.2%, Switzerland 1.0%, Sweden 0.8%, UAE 0.7%, Spain 0.6%, Brazil 0.5%, Saudi Arabia 0.4% and Italy with a share of 0.4%.

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun visits Algeria in effort to bolster bilateral ties
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is on a two-day state visit to Algeria, in a move aimed at revitalising bilateral relations and reinforcing Lebanon's diplomatic engagement with the Arab world. He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji and Information Minister Paul Morcos, according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency. It marks the first official visit by a Lebanese president to Algeria since Emile Lahoud travelled to the North African nation in 2002. In 2013, then-President Michel Sleiman made a brief technical stop in Algiers, where he was received at the airport by Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika. This week's visit is being framed as a strategic step intended to reinvigorate co-operation across sectors, particularly energy. Lebanese media have reported that several agreements are expected to be signed, including collaborations in oil and gas. The trip may also pave the way for establishing a direct flight route between Beirut and Algiers. Since taking office in January, Mr Aoun – a former commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces – has prioritised restoring Lebanon's ties with Arab nations as a cornerstone of his foreign policy. In his inaugural address, he underscored a commitment to strengthening alliances with Arab and Gulf partners, judicial and economic reform and consolidating the state's monopoly on arms. His diplomatic agenda has so far included high-level visits to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and most recently to Bahrain, where plans were finalised to establish a permanent Bahraini diplomatic mission in Beirut and expand bilateral co-operation. These successive visits reflect an effort to reset ties with the broader Arab world, re-establish confidence and secure crucial support as Lebanon grapples with a deep-rooted economic crisis that began in 2019 and the aftermath of a year-long war between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. The international community has tied major aid and investment to comprehensive reforms and the disarmament of non-state forces, chiefly Hezbollah and Palestinian factions. In February, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf visited Beirut, where met with Mr Aoun. Relations between Beirut and Algiers have experienced ups and downs. Algeria has offered Lebanon support in recent years. In 2024, it donated 30,000 tonnes of fuel oil – enough to generate 250 megawatts of electricity for about 20 days – after the country's only remaining operational power plant in Zahrani shut down because of fuel shortages. Lebanon's electricity sector has been crumbling for about three decades given a lack of investment and corruption, failing to provide round-the-clock electricity. The country has a complex history with Algeria's national state-owned oil company Sonatrach. In 2020, the company ended its fuel supply contract with Lebanon after a high-profile scandal exposed deep corruption and mismanagement within Lebanon's energy sector. The contract, signed in 2005 and renewed several times, had allowed Sonatrach's offshore unit to supply fuel oil for Lebanon's power plants. However, in early 2020, Lebanese authorities launched an investigation revealing that the supplied fuel was substandard and failed to meet required specifications. The scandal implicated several officials at Électricité du Liban (EDL), the Ministry of Energy and Customs, leading to a wave of arrests, including ministry staff and representatives from the local subcontractor. The deal, for which terms were kept secret for 15 years, was initially thought to be a state-to-state agreement. However, a Lebanese judicial investigation revealed that Sonatrach's subsidiary actually subcontracted the delivery to private companies, which were accused of falsifying laboratory results and bribery. Sonatrach denied any involvement in shipping tainted fuel. The Algerian presidency described the case as a 'Lebanese-Lebanese issue' in which Algeria was not involved.
