PU Prime Drives Coastal Restoration Efforts in Thailand

Korea Herald26-05-2025
SINGAPORE, May 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- PU Prime, a globally recognised financial services provider, has reaffirmed its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at the Air and Coastal Defense Command of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) in Sattahip, Thailand. Held on 22 May 2025, this one-day program focused on restoring coastal ecosystems through three key environmental activities: beach cleanup, mangrove seedling planting, and crab release.
As part of PU Prime's ESG framework, the initiative was structured around three key environmental activities designed to contribute meaningfully to the restoration and preservation of coastal ecosystems. Each activity was selected for its ecological relevance and alignment with regional sustainability goals.
1. Beach Cleanup
The beach cleanup activity targeted the removal of marine debris and non-biodegradable waste, such as plastic bottles, fishing nets, rope, and other litter found along Sattahip's shoreline. These pollutants are a growing concern due to their detrimental impact on marine life. Sea turtles, fish, and dolphins are often endangered by such waste, risking entanglement or ingestion that can result in injury or death. By removing this waste, the initiative not only improved the local environment but also contributed to the global fight against marine pollution and microplastics.
This cleanup effort also highlighted the power of community-driven conservation and the responsibility businesses have in safeguarding biodiversity. It sent a strong message about the importance of collective action in preserving marine habitats and preventing further environmental degradation.
2. Mangrove Seedling Cultivation
Another significant part of the initiative involved the planting of Avicennia marina, a species of mangrove well-suited to coastal and brackish environments. Mangroves serve as crucial coastal buffers, protecting shorelines from erosion, storm surges, and saltwater intrusion. They also provide shelter and breeding grounds for a wide range of marine and terrestrial species.
By planting mangrove seedlings, PU Prime not only supported biodiversity but also contributed to climate mitigation. Mangrove forests are known for their exceptional capacity to sequester carbon, helping absorb atmospheric CO₂. The initiative further educated participants on the ecological, social, and economic value of mangroves—essential ecosystems that support local fisheries, sustain coastal livelihoods, and bolster eco-tourism.
3. Crab Release
The crab release component involved the careful reintroduction of native crab species into their natural habitat. This effort was aimed at supporting the regeneration of local marine populations, maintaining ecological balance, and strengthening food web dynamics in the area. Crabs play an essential role in benthic ecosystems by recycling nutrients, aerating sediments, and serving as prey for larger species.
The release was carried out in collaboration with local environmental coordinators to ensure that species selection and handling adhered to best practices in marine conservation. This activity, while symbolic, formed a tangible part of PU Prime's effort to promote sustainable marine ecosystems and enhance local biodiversity.
A Broader ESG Vision
PU Prime ensured the initiative was well-supported with logistical planning, including transportation, facilitators, necessary equipment, and refreshments. Activities were conducted in line with local environmental guidelines, ensuring minimal disruption and lasting positive impact.
This CSR program illustrates PU Prime's broader ESG vision—one that prioritises sustainable practices, ethical leadership, and social responsibility. As the company expands its global footprint, it remains dedicated to initiatives that deliver long-term environmental and societal benefits, reinforcing the belief that sustainability is vital to building a better future for all.

Kavalan Makes History at Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition 2025 Clinching Double 'Best of the Best Single Malt'

TWSC Says Their Top 'Best of the Best' Award Has Never Been Awarded to Two Whiskies Before TAIPEI, Aug. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In the final round of the 2025 Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition (TWSC), Taiwan's premier whisky distillery achieved the impossible, scooping not just one "Best of the Best Single Malt", but two of the same award. Organisers said: "Due to a tie, this category has two winners. This marks the first time in TWSC history that the 'Best of the Best' title has been awarded to two whiskies." Kavalan Solist PX Sherry Cask and new expression, Kavalan Lán, were jointly named "Best of the Best Single Malt" after a rigorous double selection procedure. Judges found PX Sherry to have a " silky and profound finish with umami depth", while Lán was described as " caramelised nuts, honey, and temple incense" creating a " deep and intriguing aroma". King Car Group Chairman Mr. YT Lee said Japan was one of the world's most refined whisky markets. "Japan is where connoisseurs appreciate complexity, depth, and character. To win the first ever tied 'Best of the Best' in Tokyo is an extraordinary honour. We are thrilled to have our craftsmanship recognised on such a grand stage." Product Descriptions LÁN Single Malt Whisky (700ml, 43% ABV) The name LÁN carries deep meaning. It stands for "Kavalan", pays homage to our home "Yilan" and represents the orchid "lán" in Mandarin, symbolizing Taiwan's reputation as the "Kingdom of Orchids." This is the first Kavalan whisky named after our home region, with packaging featuring expressive calligraphy and delicate orchid motifs, reflecting a distinctly Asian aesthetic. On the nose: orchid, rose, jasmine, peony, orange blossom, butter, vanilla, chocolate, and sandalwood. On the palate: floral-fruity freshness, butter, cocoa, and spiced oak, finishing like a fine eau de parfum. Kavalan Solist PX Single Cask Strength (700ml, 50–59.9% ABV) PX (Pedro Ximénez), the sweet dessert sherry, is often referred to as the "King of Sherries,". Kavalan Solist PX is a rich, warming whisky, brimming with juicy raisins and honeyed syrup. In blind tastings, its surprising maturity has judges mistaking it for a 20 or 30-year-old dram. This is the second time Solist PX has been awarded "Best of the Best," following its 2023 win. On the nose: rich raisins, fig jam, toffee sweetness, and a touch of dark chocolate. On the palate: silky and full-bodied, with honeyed dates, cocoa, nutmeg spice, and a lingering sherry warmth. The Solist series takes its name from the idea of a soloist performing in Kavalan's warehouse. Each cask is bottled at single cask strength without colouring or chill-filtration. Kavalan also set a new record of 7 superior gold and 11 gold medals in the contest this year. Judges' notes for select Superior Gold medal whiskies: Kavalan Solist PX Sherry Cask Kavalan Lán Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon Cask Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask Kavalan Solist Moscatel Sherry Cask Kavalan continues to break boundaries and redefine what world-class whisky can be, crafted on the small island of Taiwan, but celebrated across continents. Full List of the Awards: Superior Gold Gold About the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition The TWSC is one of Asia's largest competitions and the only one in Japan. Building on the relationships of the more than two decades since the establishment of the Japan Whisky Research Centre, TWSC can draw from hundreds of judges from across Japan of bartenders, manufacturers, importers, and more, as well as Whisky Connoisseur certification holders. In the 2025 competition, approximately 30 countries participated, with a total of 639 spirit entries submitted. In the first round, 213 judges participated and in the second round, 41. LG Display presents world's best OLED technologies alongside historic firsts at K-Display 2025

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Display, the world's leading innovator of display technologies, announced today its participation in K-Display 2025 at COEX in Seoul for three days from Aug. 7, as the company is showcasing innovative technologies and products ranging from large, medium, and small-sized panels to automotive displays. LG Display is presenting OLED innovations and display solutions that bridge the present and future under the theme, "Shaping the Future." In particular, the exhibition features an experience Zone where visitors can directly encounter the world's first and best technologies, enhancing their understanding of LG Display's capabilities. The OLED Heritage exhibition space allows visitors to see at a glance the technological leadership LG Display has achieved since becoming the first in the world to successfully mass-produce large-sized OLED panels. This journey covers the company's 15-inch OLED panel prototype from 2009, which laid the foundation for OLED TV panels, as well as a Tandem OLED panel with a two-layer structure, the deuterium atom structure of second-generation OLED, the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology of third-generation OLED, and the Primary RGB Tandem structure of fourth-generation OLED. All are presented so that visitors can more intuitively understand OLED technology. At the booth's entrance, visitors witness LG Display's 83-inch OLED panel featuring fourth-generation OLED technology, which was newly unveiled by the company this year. Fourth-generation OLED achieves a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits based on the industry's first Primary RGB Tandem technology, which stacks the three primary colors of light (red, green, and blue) as independent layers. LG Display is demonstrating a comparison of the previous generation's picture quality with that of fourth-generation OLED panels using ultra-large-sized panels, highlighting the incredible three-dimensionality and rich color reproduction of its latest technology. In addition, it is unveiling the world's fastest OLED monitor panel for the first time. LG Display's 540Hz 27-inch OLED panel (QHD) applies Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology to achieve an ultra-high refresh rate of up to 720Hz (HD) depending on the user's needs. Combined with fourth-generation OLED technology, it boasts the highest level of picture quality among OLED monitor panels, with 99.5% DCI-P3 color reproduction and a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. Visitors are able to play games using this panel and thereby discover the difference refresh rates make to gaming. Those in attendance additionally have the chance to experience LG Display's various automotive display technologies and products in an auto cockpit with a living space concept that facilitates fully autonomous mobility beyond software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The 57-inch Pillar-to-Pillar LCD at the center of the cockpit is the largest automotive display currently available, providing information and entertainment functions as desired through its natural curved screen. There is also a 32.6-inch Slidable OLED for vehicles, which unfolds downward when needed, as well as an ultra-bright 29-inch Outdoor LCD, which can be used for both advertising and communication with the world outside the vehicle. Moreover, LG Display is exhibiting a 47.8-inch LTPS LCD equipped with Switchable Privacy Mode (SPM) technology, allowing the screen in front of the passenger seat to be adjusted so that it is not visible from the driver's seat. The company is also introducing the world's first jog dial for vehicles that utilizes a Stretchable display that can stretch up to 53%. This innovative product maintains a smooth and flat form when not in use, but when a button is touched, it stretches to form a jog dial. Additionally, there is a 14-inch Tandem ATO featuring LG Display's Tandem structure for the first time in the industry, offering both high brightness with low power consumption while also enabling a thin and lightweight design with a single glass substrate structure. A 14.5-inch LCD unveiled alongside it uses advanced Oxide TFT and low-power backlight technology to maximize battery life, providing an optimized display solution for the AI era's significantly higher power consumption. "The LG Display-led technological evolution of OLED is changing the paradigm of displays," said an official at LG Display. The official added, "We will secure sustainable technological competitiveness and provide differentiated customer value by not only bringing commercial technologies to maturity but also solidly preparing R&D capabilities for future technologies."
