Disneyland 70th Anniversary Everything New At The Park And Worth Doing
Hi, everyone! We're Brian and Crystal, and we're massive fans of all things Disney, but especially the Disney parks. So when Disney invited us to join them for the celebration for Disneyland's 70th anniversary, we practically zipped down Main Street, U.S.A. faster than you can say "bibbidy-bobbidy-boo." From a dazzling new projection show to the return of a fan-favorite parade, we got to check out what The Happiest Place on Earth has going on for its milestone anniversary. Now, in case you're wondering, the 70th anniversary celebration is just getting started! The celebration runs all the way through summer 2026, with Disneyland's big birthday bash happening on July 17. Okay, now let's get to what you clicked into this post for: The new things coming to the park and our thoughts! Food, glorious food! Yep, there's a whole lineup of new treats and eats to celebrate Disneyland's 70th anniversary. We tried a bunch of them (for research, of course) — and you can check out our full review right here. Spoiler alert: both Crystal and I agree that the Dole Whip Pineapple Bundt Cake is a standout that you shouldn't miss!!! "The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade," a brand new, twice-daily mini-parade that features Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, and lots of other Disney characters dancing along the parade route. The cavalcade is cute and just the right amount of high energy to get us into the spirit. But the real showstoppers? Duffy and ShellieMay! If you're not familiar, they're two ultra-cute teddy bear characters who are massive celebrities at the Asian Disney Parks — we're talking longer photo lines than Mickey levels of fame. They're a rare sight Stateside, so spotting them in the cavalcade felt like a delightful little Disney Easter egg. Another new addition for the 70th anniversary is "Tapestry of Happiness," a whimsical nighttime projection show that is displayed on the facade of It's a Small World. Illustrated in the iconic style of Disney legend Mary Blair, the show is a wonderful tribute to the park's past and present. Woven together through vibrant visuals, the show incorporates beloved characters, classic attractions, and even a few long-lost favorites from throughout the park's seven-decade history. I think we both thought the show, while short (at just 5 minutes), was a standout and worth lining up for (especially if you're a Disneyland fan because it's full of little Easter eggs). Returning for the 70th is the "Paint the Night Parade," which, if you don't know what it is, the best way I can describe it is a very souped-up "Main Street Electrical Parade." The parade was first introduced at Disneyland for its 60th anniversary, and since then, it has only been revived a handful of times. Even if parades aren't usually your thing, this one's totally worth a watch because it's a visual feast of colors and lights, with truly impressive large floats. Plus, it's at night, so you don't have to wait in the sun! Also returning for the 70th anniversary celebration is the "Wondrous Journeys" nighttime spectacular. A fireworks and projection show that originally debuted in 2023 as part of the Disney100 celebration. If you haven't seen it, the show is a tribute to Walt Disney Animation and features scenes and characters from every animated film from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Wish. So, yup, no Pixar or live-action movies are featured in it. We'd both seen it before and were thrilled to see it make a comeback — it's easily one of the best fireworks and projection shows Disneyland's done in a while, especially when it comes to storytelling. And if staking out a spot on Main Street, U.S.A. isn't your vibe, good news: you can catch the projections over at Rivers of America or on the facade of It's a Small World for a more low-key (but still magical) viewing experience. The Disneyland Resort's 70th celebration is already going strong, with plenty of magic happening ahead of the big anniversary on July 17 and throughout the next year. Want in on the fun? Preview capsule for the NBA Finals matchup between Indiana and Oklahoma City
No. 4 Indiana Pacers (50-32, 12-4) vs. No. 1 Oklahoma City Thunder (68-14, 12-4) Season series: Thunder, 2-0. Schedule: Game 1 at Oklahoma City on Thursday, Game 2 at Oklahoma City on Sunday, Game 3 at Indiana on June 11, Game 4 at Indiana on June 13, Game 5 at Oklahoma City on June 16 (if necessary), Game 6 at Indiana on June 19 (if necessary), Game 7 at Oklahoma City on June 22 (if necessary). How they got here: Oklahoma City overwhelmed Memphis in a first-round sweep, survived seven games against 2023 NBA champion Denver, then eliminated Minnesota in five games in the Western Conference finals. The Thunder finished off the series in a romp, leading by 39 points in a 124-94 victory, and are winning by about 11 points per game in the postseason. The Pacers aren't as dominant but find a way at the finish, taking out Milwaukee and top-seeded Cleveland in five games before knocking off New York in six in the East finals. Their four victories after trailing by 17 or more points are the most by a team in a single postseason. Storyline: The small markets get the big stage. For Oklahoma City, it's a second trip to the NBA Finals since moving from Seattle in 2008. The Thunder lost in their first try against Miami in 2012 but are heavy favorites in this one after compiling the NBA's best record behind MVP and scoring champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Pacers are making just their second NBA Finals appearance, having lost to the Lakers in 2000. Key matchup: Tyrese Haliburton vs. Lu Dort, Alex Caruso, Cason Wallace and Gilgeous-Alexander. Nobody can throw as many good defensive guards at a team as the Thunder, as Anthony Edwards found out when Oklahoma City limited him to 12-for-31 shooting in the final two games of the West finals. Haliburton is having a memorable postseason, hitting three game-winning or game-tying shots and topping all players with 9.8 assists. But the Thunder limited him well in the two regular-season matchups, holding the All-NBA point guard to 11 points and 5.5 assists per game. X-factor: Indiana's defense. The Pacers are potent, with their 117.4 points per game in the postseason the second-highest ever by a team entering the NBA Finals. But even they can't count on offense alone against a top defensive squad like Oklahoma City. The Pacers are going to have to slow down the Thunder and showed no signs of being able to in the regular season, as Oklahoma City reached 30 points in six of the eight quarters they played and averaged 126 per game. Prediction: The Thunder are top-to-bottom the best team in the NBA. The Pacers' road success and high-scoring offense allow them to compete in this series but not win it. Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton losing the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals Most Valuable Player award to Pascal Siakam continue to be a major talking point in the basketball realm. That topic has been a solid filler, as everyone waits for the 2025 NBA Finals to commence. Advertisement Many believe that Haliburton should have bagged the Larry Bird Trophy over Siakam. However, for former NBA guard Lou Williams, Siakam getting the trophy after the Pacers eliminated the New York Knicks was not as surprising as many seem to feel. 'This could have went either way. It was a 5-4 vote, right?' Williams, who won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award three times, said during an episode of the Run It Back show. Williams noted that Siakam was able to do his job against the Knicks and in the NBA Playoffs while still being able to 'fly under the radar ' because of the attention that Haliburton commanded. Through six games in the New York series, Siakam led the Pacers with an average of 24.8 points while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc. Haliburton was not too shabby either, putting up 21.0 points per contest while leading Indiana in rebounds (6.0) and assists (10.5). Advertisement Williams, also, couldn't help but bring up the awkward moment during the awarding ceremony on the court following the Pacers' series-clinching 125-108 Game 6 win over the Knicks. 'So I wasn't as surprised when he [Siakam] got it [the ECF MVP award], but it was kind of funny to see Tyrese feel like that he was about to walk up there and receive that award, but it could have went either way. So, as funny as the internet made it, he was right,' said Williams. 'Like I'm one vote away. I was one vote away from getting this trophy, but it was also well-deserved for Pascal Siakam as well.' With the Knicks series all behind them now, Haliburton and the Pacers put their entire focus on their upcoming NBA Finals matchup versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. That series will start on Thursday at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, where Game 2 will also be played on Sunday.
