Cleanup underway after hydrocarbon spill in Muskrat River in Pembroke, Ont.
The City of Pembroke says there are no concerns about the town's drinking water after a hydrocarbon spill in the Muskrat River this weekend. The city and the Ministry of Environment are investigating the oil spill in the river over the weekend. 'Staff are working to determine the source and absorbent cloth across the river will stay in place until then,' the city said in a media release Monday morning. 'Cleanup activities are ongoing, with no further contaminant going into the river. The drinking water system is producing clean drinking water as usual.' City officials say no drinking water quality advisories are in place, and the city has not been informed of any concerns with the overall river safety.

Thunderstorms possible along the foothills on Monday
After an active weekend of weather in and around Calgary, Monday began with calm and clear conditions. Unfortunately, this period of mild weather is not expected to last for long with most of this week including a risk of rain, potential thunderstorms and a rapid drop in temperatures. A number of low pressure systems in the upper air patterns within the north Pacific basin will merge together as the week progresses, but rather than track along the typical west to east pathway along the polar jet, this new larger low will remain stuck along the western coast of B.C. Thunderstorms possible along the foothills on Monday This synoptic setup will enhance instability on the Alberta side of the Rocky Mountains and potentially lead to heavy rain and intense thunderstorm development in the first half of this week. The first hint of that is on Monday with thunderstorms possible along the foothills, including Calgary. The greatest threats will be medium-sized hail and strong wind. Thunderstorms possible along the foothills on Monday More persistent rain and cooler temperatures are expected by the weekend, with the high on Saturday closer to the average overnight low. Calgary could see some form of precipitation most days this week but the heaviest accumulations are likely Friday and Saturday.
