Boy, 14, accused of fatally shooting innocent scooter-riding teen girl in NYC schoolyard ordered held in jail
The 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting an innocent 16-year-old girl as she rode her scooter into a Bronx schoolyard brawl this week was ordered held behind bars during his hospital-bed arraignment Thursday.
The teen, facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to the death of Morris High School freshman Evette Jeffrey, was dressed in red pants and a black T-shirt and sat on a hospital bed as he appeared on a screen in the courtroom.
The violent youngster – whose name was not officially released because he is a juvenile offender – pleaded not guilty to the Monday evening deadly shooting through his Legal Aid attorney Francis White, who sat by his side.

'The defendant fired numerous shots on school grounds in the direction of approximately 20 school-age children,' Assistant District Attorney Timothy Collins said. 'The defendant struck an innocent bystander, a 16-year-old girl, in the head. The incident is on video. The defendant has been identified as the shooter.'
Despite his tender age, the alleged gunman had already racked up a previous assault charge on his rap sheet, Collins said.
Judge Gayle P. Roberts agreed to order the teen held without bail to ensure that he returns to court, 'given the very serious nature of the incident allegations, and as well as his family court findings.'

He also faces charges of attempted murder, manslaughter and three weapon possession-related offenses, according to the complaint. He is set to reappear in court on Friday.
The boy allegedly used a semi-automatic pistol during the early evening melee outside 800 Home Street in Morrisania, which houses three schools — Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science and Science Charter School, Bronx Latin and Bronx Career and College Preparatory High School.
Investigators believe the daylight mayhem was sparked by a feud between street gangs – the Forest Over Everything crew and an upstart gang calling itself Kreep On Davidson, based at the Davidson Houses public housing complex, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said earlier this week.

'The victim, Evette Jeffrey, was not involved in this dispute,' the police official said. 'She was an innocent bystander who was simply trying to take cover behind the brick wall and was struck in the head by one of the rounds.'
The gun-toting teen callously took off after the fatal shooting – but was busted the next morning as he tried to get into a taxi, Kenny said.
Relatives said Evette was celebrating her one-year anniversary with her also-16-year-old boyfriend at a Chinese restaurant after school on Monday and decided to stop at the playground – where she found herself in the line of fire.
5 Evette's tearful grandmother (pictured) said she couldn't bring herself to forgive the shooter.

'She died here,' the girl's grandma previously told The Post. 'They were just going to revive her, but she died here.'
'She's forever 16,' the tearful grandmother said. 'That's it.'
She couldn't bring herself to forgive the young shooter who took her granddaughter's life.
'I don't forgive you,' she sobbed. 'I hold your family responsible because they should be watching you. Whoever handed you [the gun] or had it, I will never forgive you.'
5 Investigators are still looking for a 12-year-old boy suspected of handing the gun to the shooter, sources said.

‘Hall of Fame' repeat offender with some 230 arrests in trouble again with 4 busts in just a month
The serial transit offender with about 230 total arrests who cops slammed as a candidate for the subway crime 'Hall of Fame' is in trouble again as he racked up four more busts over the past month before being dumped back onto the street, law enforcement sources said. Michael Wilson, 37 – who sources say committed 90 percent of his crimes in the subway system – was nabbed for the 25th time this year on Tuesday for allegedly riding between cars on a train passing through the 42nd Street-Times Square station, according to the sources. He then lied about his personal info to arresting officers, according to the sources. Wilson was also busted on May 25 for allegedly lying across multiple seats on a train car in Brooklyn, police said. On May 12, he was nabbed for allegedly smoking crack cocaine on a staircase at Riverside Drive and 104th Street on the Upper West Side, and then tossing the residue down the steps, cops and sources said. And on May 6, Wilson was charged with allegedly smoking crack on a moving train in Harlem, police said. He was released on each of the cases – which is nothing new for the serial offender, who earlier this year drew the ire of NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper. 'If there was a hall of fame for Subway offenders — this guy would be a first ballot inductee,' NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper wrote in a scathing X post. 'And yet, certain parts of our criminal justice system seem to think otherwise.' Kemper's comments came after Wilson's Feb. 2 bust, when cops caught him swiping a rider through a turnstile with a MetroCard in exchange for cash, law enforcement sources said. He was ordered to leave the West 34th Street and Seventh Avenue subway station during the 10 a.m. ordeal, but he refused, and started to flail his arms and stiffen his body in an effort to avoid arrest. Eventually officers placed Wilson under arrest. They found six MetroCards in his possession, which they bent along their magnetic strips to render them unusable. He also had a student MetroCard. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office ultimately let him off without prosecution 'in the interest of justice,' according to sources. Kemper took exception to the DA's rationale, referencing it verbatim in his X post. 'Justice for whom? Recidivist criminals or law abiding NYers who simply want to travel on the subways free of harassment or open acts of lawlessness?' Kemper said. A spokesperson for Bragg said at the time that his office continues to 'hold accountable those who jeopardize the safety of other passengers and transit workers in our subways. 'Last year's decrease in transit crime throughout the borough was the result of close collaboration with our law enforcement partners, and we are continuing that work every day,' the spokesperson said. Before that bust, Wilson was arrested on two criminal tampering charges on Jan. 17, and seven others on Jan. 13, according to the sources. On Jan. 3, he was arrested and slapped with 11 charges – 10 for criminal tampering and one for theft of service, the sources said. The career criminal – whose first arrest was back in 2004 – was arrested 232 times over the years, but dozens of those cases have been sealed, bringing the unsealed total to 170, according to the sources. A whopping 135 of his arrests have been on felony charges, but he's only been convicted of felonies four times, with one of them a violent felony, according to the sources. His parole was also revoked several times, the sources said. He has also racked up 53 misdemeanor convictions, the sources said. Wilson had also been issued more than 30 bench warrants to failure to appear in court, according to the sources.

Suspect arrested in Brevard County after trying to bomb state radio tower, deputies say
The Brief A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. Deputies say the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. Officials are asking locals to avoid the area of Deering Parkway Road and use alternative routes while they investigate. BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. Officials say the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. What we know Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Friday in the area of Deering Parkway Road. The vehicle was trying to pull away when deputies arrived at the scene. A number of units, including the bomb unit, were seen on Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1. Ivey said the vehicle's driver told a story that "did not match what was going on," causing investigators to search the vehicle and discover an explosive device that the sheriff said was a possible pipe bomb. Ivey said the driver of the vehicle appeared to be angry over employment issues and planned to target one of the state radio towers. "The individual has made some statements about getting fired and things of that nature," Ivey said. Ivey said the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. He said the suspect is now in custody. What we don't know It is currently unclear what employment issues led up to the suspect attempting to target the radio tower with the explosive device. Officials have not yet released the identity of the suspect taken into custody. FOX 35 has reached out to investigators for more information on the incident. What's next Officials said Deering Parkway Road, between I-95 and U.S. 1, will continue to be closed for a few hours while the investigation continues.
