Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Director Manish Gupta, who has been booked by Versova police for allegedly attacking his driver, has denied all the allegations and said that these are all "false accusations".
Speaking to ANI, he said, "Ye bilkul hi jhutha aarop hai (This is a false accusation)... a hundred per cent false accusation. There was no fight between that driver and me, Rajebul Lashkar. Usne police mein jaaake jhuthi statement di hai (He went to the police and gave a false statement). And on that basis, he filed an FIR. He did this to put my reputation at risk. So that I come under pressure and he can extort more money from me."
He also opened up on the accusation that he has not paid salary to his driver timely, "This accusation is 100% false. I will show you my bank statement for the past 3 years. You will see that every month I have paid him his entire salary on time. So, the first sentence in the FIR is false that I never paid him salary on time, that's why he fought with me. His first sentence is false. The first false sentence in his statement, in the FIR, is the proof that his entire allegation is false. It is proof that he is lying. You can see my bank statement. ...There is a detail of his salary every month for the past 3 years."
Gupta also shared that he has given his driver regular salary so there was no argument or fight between them, "As I said, he has received his salary on time every month for the past 3 years. You can see my bank statement. The driver's name, amount, and date are clearly shown in this. He has received his salary on time every month for the past 3 years. On top of that, he has been given an advance. I have given him more advance than salary many times. The person who has given him a salary on time every month for the past 3 years, he(driver) has given a statement to file an FIR that he has never paid his salary on time. That's why he has fought with me. This is a complete lie. When this man starts his statement with a false sentence, you can understand that the whole statement is a lie. He has a malafide intention. Uska motive hai paise aethna..This is an extortion racket and nothing else. So he made this salary just a topic. He wanted to make a topic and show that there was a fight. That's why he has raised this issue of salary. "
The director also shared that he has been contributing to the police investigation. "I have submitted my statement to the police. I will show you a copy of the statement. I have given a statement. They stamped it, signed it and gave me an acknowledgement. And in the statement, I said everything... I told them that this man has given you a false statement. And on the basis of a false statement, he has filed an FIR. That is, it is 100% a lie."
"There will be no compromise at all. The trend of extortion racket is very dangerous for our country, and especially for Bollywood personalities. Because we are a soft target, we have to stop these extortionists...So we are taking legal action. And we are initiating criminal proceedings against this man...Also, I want to add that he has a criminal background..," he added.
Gupta has been booked under sections 118(2), 115(2) and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. (ANI)

Bengal: BSF foils smuggling attempt, confiscates large haul of Bangladeshi currency, seizes contraband items

Nadia (West Bengal) [India], June 9 (ANI): The vigilant jawans of BSF South Bengal Frontier foiled a major smuggling attempt on the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Nadia district of West Bengal and recovered 21,00,000 Bangladeshi Taka, 340 bottles of Phensedyl and 11 kg of Ganja. This action was made possible by the vigilance and prompt response of jawans at the border, who quickly acted on information about suspicious activity and foiled the smugglers' plans, BSF said in a press release. 'Yesterday, on June 8, the jawans of Border Outpost Gongra of 161 Battalion of BSF deployed on the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Nadia district of West Bengal received secret information that illegal items could be smuggled from the area of the border outpost. Acting on the received intelligence, the jawans of the Border Outpost devised a plan to catch the smugglers red-handed and set up ambushes at highly sensitive locations. Around 3 a.m., they noticed suspicious movements near the fencing, where several smugglers were hiding in a banana orchard. The jawans immediately sprang into action, attempting to surround the suspects and warning them to stop,' South Bengal Frontier BSF official said. BSF official further said that after realising they were encircled by BSF personnel, the smugglers panicked and, taking advantage of the darkness and the dense banana plantation, managed to flee. Upon receiving information about the incident, a thorough search operation was launched across the area, but no trace of the smugglers could be found. However, during the search, 21,00,000 Bangladeshi currency, 340 bottles of Phensedyl and 11 kg of Ganja were recovered from the spot. All the recovered items have been seized and handed over to the concerned department. The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier confirmed the incident and stated that the ongoing operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) to curb smuggling and drug trafficking along the India-Bangladesh border is consistently achieving remarkable success. Owing to the sharp vigilance and rapid response of BSF jawans, smuggling attempts along the border are repeatedly being disrupted. (ANI)

Delhi HC reserves order on bail plea of Vedpal Singh Tanwar, ED opposed

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved an order on Vedpal Singh Tanwar's bail plea after hearing submissions from counsel for the petitioner and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court said it would pronounce the order today. Tanwar is an accused in a money laundering case linked to illegal mining in the Dadam area of Haryana. Justice Girish Kathpalia reserved the order after hearing the arguments advanced by Advocate Zoheb Hossain, Special Counsel for ED and rebuttal arguments by Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa. Special Counsel Zoheb Hosain for ED, while opposing the bail plea, submitted that the accused is not in long incarceration as he was admitted on interim bail and was in the hospital for a considerable time. There is a 165-day effective incarceration only. Hosain submitted that Tanwar is the mastermind in this case. He is not sick and infirm. As per the AIIMS report, he is perfectly fine. In his case, the twin conditions of PMLA squarely apply. ED's counsel opposed the submissions made by the counsel for the accused, saying that no offence was made against him as the Environment Protection Act was decriminalised. ED argued that excessive mining began in February 2019. There was excessive sand and stone mining by the accused persons in this case. Zoheb Hossain argued that the Punjab and Haryana High Courts have not issued an order quashing the FIR or the present ECIR. An FIR was registered in August 2023, and ECIR was registered in September 2023. Consequently, Tanwar was arrested in May 2024. ED's counsel argued that the alleged offences under section 420 (Cheating) and 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) were part of the ECIR. 'There is Illegal stone mining in this case. There are allegations of cheating. Fraudulent representations were made to the government as Tanwar was blacklisted by the Haryana government,' Zoheb Hossain said. 'His firm, Ridhi Siddhi, was blacklisted by the Haryana Government. He was not allowed to participate in mining auctions. He was blacklisted, he can't bid,' Hossain added. Hossain further argued that Tanwar did it through another firm, Goverdhan Mining and Mineral (GMM). Tanwar controlled the affairs of that firm. He was the CEO of GMM and withdrew his salary of Rs. 10 lakh per month. On the other hand, senior advocate Vikas Pahwa advanced rebuttal arguments for Tanwar. He submitted that cognisance is not taken against Tanwar; prima facie, there is no offence against him. The NGT order has been set aside, and the FIR is pending. The special director of ED has become the complainant; she is also the informant, the Senior advocate added. Tanwar has moved a plea through advocate Sumer Singh Boparai and Aman Sharma. ED had arrested Ved Pal Singh Tanwar under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, on May 30, 2024, in connection with illegal mining in the Dadam area of Haryana. As per ED, it initiated an investigation on the basis of the Prosecution Complaint filed by the Regional Officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, Bhiwani, before the Special Environment Court, Kurukshetra, against the Firm M/s. Govardhan Mines and Minerals for violating the conditions of the Environment Clearance under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Subsequently, an FIR was registered by the Haryana Police under various sections of the IPC, 1860. ED said that the investigation revealed that the Firm has been involved in large-scale illegal and unscientific mining in the Dadam area of Haryana. It had led to large-scale damage to the environment and a huge loss to the exchequer. It is worth mentioning here that rampant illegal mining in the area led to the killing of 5 persons due to landslides, ED said in a press note. (ANI)

26/11 Terror Attack: Delhi Court grants Tahawwur Rana a one-time phone call, seeks health report from Tihar

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): The Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday granted 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana permission to make a single phone call to his family for the time being. The call will be strictly conducted in accordance with jail regulations and under the supervision of a senior official from the Tihar jail authorities, said the Court. The Additional Sessions Judge (NIA) Chander Jit Singh on Monday also sought a detail status report on Rana's health issues, which must be submitted within 10 days. In its response to the jail authorities, the NIA had approved permission for this one-time phone call. Furthermore, the court has also sought a detailed report from the jail authorities, clarifying their stance on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone calls in the future, as per the Jail Manual. On Friday, the court extended Rana's judicial custody, scheduling his next appearance for July 9. Due to security concerns, he was presented via virtual mode. On the last date of hearing, Rana personally addressed the court, requesting a hearing aid for an ear-related medical issue. Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected voice and handwriting samples from Rana, who was extradited from the United States earlier this month. His legal aid counsel, Advocate Piyush Sachdev, confirmed that he fully complied with the court directive. The NIA had previously informed the court that Rana was confronted with substantial evidence related to the 26/11 attacks. The agency argued for further custody, citing his evasive behaviour during questioning and lack of cooperation. Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narender Mann represented the NIA in the proceedings, while Advocate Piyush Sachdeva defended Rana. A 64-year-old Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, Rana, was extradited recently in connection with his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The devastating attack, orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed over 170 lives and left hundreds injured. (ANI)
