Bengal: BSF foils smuggling attempt, confiscates large haul of Bangladeshi currency, seizes contraband items
This action was made possible by the vigilance and prompt response of jawans at the border, who quickly acted on information about suspicious activity and foiled the smugglers' plans, BSF said in a press release.
'Yesterday, on June 8, the jawans of Border Outpost Gongra of 161 Battalion of BSF deployed on the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Nadia district of West Bengal received secret information that illegal items could be smuggled from the area of the border outpost. Acting on the received intelligence, the jawans of the Border Outpost devised a plan to catch the smugglers red-handed and set up ambushes at highly sensitive locations. Around 3 a.m., they noticed suspicious movements near the fencing, where several smugglers were hiding in a banana orchard. The jawans immediately sprang into action, attempting to surround the suspects and warning them to stop,' South Bengal Frontier BSF official said.
BSF official further said that after realising they were encircled by BSF personnel, the smugglers panicked and, taking advantage of the darkness and the dense banana plantation, managed to flee. Upon receiving information about the incident, a thorough search operation was launched across the area, but no trace of the smugglers could be found.
However, during the search, 21,00,000 Bangladeshi currency, 340 bottles of Phensedyl and 11 kg of Ganja were recovered from the spot.
All the recovered items have been seized and handed over to the concerned department.
The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier confirmed the incident and stated that the ongoing operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) to curb smuggling and drug trafficking along the India-Bangladesh border is consistently achieving remarkable success.
Owing to the sharp vigilance and rapid response of BSF jawans, smuggling attempts along the border are repeatedly being disrupted. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): In a major bust of cyber-extortion, a joint team of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber, Central District, Delhi Police arrested three men, including a London School of Economics graduate, for allegedly trying to extort money through international WhatsApp calls and cryptocurrency payments, officials said on Saturday. The accused, who allegedly posed as associates of a notorious gangster to instil fear, were traced to Thailand before being apprehended on their return to India, they said. According to police, the case came to light after a complainant approached PS DBG Road, reporting that he had received a threatening WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller identified himself as a well-known gangster, demanded money, and even sent a cryptocurrency QR code for payment. The threat escalated when the complainant was warned that his children would be shot if the demand was not met. Based on the complaint, a case under Section 308(4) BNS was registered at PS DBG Road, and a joint investigation was launched by PS DBG Road and PS Cyber of the Central technical team swung into action using advanced & paid cyber tools, traced the suspected International WhatsApp call & the origin of the QR Code sent to the complainant, for the receipt of extortion money to Thailand. The previous crypto-transaction was analysed using advanced cyber tools in coordination with i4C, MHA, and the suspects were successfully tracked down in Thailand, they said. Meanwhile, surveillance teams in India monitored the suspects' local addresses. As soon as the suspects returned from Thailand, they were immediately apprehended. The accused have been identified as (1) Sumit, resident of West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi; (2) Prince, resident of Roshanara Road, near Pulbangash, Delhi; and (3) Nitish, resident of DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi – a master's graduate from the London School of Economics (LSE), police said. Two mobile phones used for generating crypto QR codes and making international WhatsApp calls were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were all heavily debt-ridden and sought an 'easy way" out of their financial troubles. Sumit, who works in the jewellery business and was acquainted with the complainant's family, allegedly orchestrated the plan. To create fear, the trio used the name of a well-known gangster. The accused conspired in India, travelled to Thailand to evade detection, purchased an international SIM card, and used it to place WhatsApp calls, police added. (ANI)

"The state government has on multiple occasions, acknowledged such operations and deportations of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, which raises critical questions about the efficacy of our border management framework and the current coordination mechanisms." He wrote that as per official statements, a new strategy of pushback was announced on May 10 this year. Punjab Police raids 301 locations across state, arrests 38 drug smugglers
The raids have resulted in the recovery of 620 grams of heroin and 1612 intoxicant tablets/capsules from the possession of arrested drug smugglers. Chandigarh: Continuing the war against drugs 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 168th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 301 locations on Saturday leading to the arrest of 38 drug smugglers after registration of 28 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, simultaneously in all 28 Police districts of the state. Notably, CM Bhagwant Mann has asked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendent of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state. The Punjab government has also constituted a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs. Divulging details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla informed that over 100 Police teams, comprising over 900 police personnel, under the supervision of 70 gazetted officers, have conducted raids across the state.
