Inaugural Ibn Firnas Summit on drone technology held in Muscat
Organised by Ibn Firnas Drone Center in partnership with Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the summit was held under the patronage of Hamad bin Ali al Nazwani, Undersecretary for Housing. It highlighted recent advances in drone technology and application of these in urban planning, infrastructure and smart city development.
A live demonstration showcased the M400's capabilities in aerial surveying, 3D mapping and use across sectors such as utilities, energy, telecommunications, agriculture and security.
Mohammed bin Abdullah al Harthy, CEO of Ibn Firnas Drone Center which is the exclusive DJI dealer in Oman, described the summit was a turning point in creating a national framework for drone technology. 'Our role extends beyond supplying drones. Through Firnas Academy, Firnas Innovation Lab and our technical support facility – the first of its kind in Oman – we are developing skills, solutions and expertise for the drone sector,' he said.
Technical sessions addressed practical uses of drones in water, electricity and telecommunications. Officials from Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Nama Group and Omantel shared examples of how drones can improve efficiency, cut costs and speed up projects in support of smart city initiatives.
A panel discussion featuring Ibn Firnas Drone Center, DJI and the Civil Aviation Authority officials examined future regulations and the role of drones in national development.
Ferdinand Ma, Regional Partnerships Manager for Middle East and North Africa at DJI, said Oman's decision to launch the M400 reflects growing confidence in the drones market. 'Our partnership with Ibn Firnas Drone Center allows us to deliver integrated solutions and reinforces Oman's position as a regional hub for this industry.'
Since its establishment, Ibn Firnas Drone Center has completed more than 200 projects covering sales, training, maintenance, industrial applications and anti-drone technologies, supplied over 1,000 drones and logged more than 7,000 flight hours.
The Ibn Firnas Summit is expected to be held annually, serving as a platform for collaborations and knowledge exchange in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives.

Washington, D.C., US – The White House on Tuesday launched an official TikTok account, despite the China-based video-sharing app facing a ban in the US on the grounds of national security concerns. Oman-South Korea discuss energy and green hydrogen cooperation
By OUR CORRESPONDENT Seoul – H E Mohsin bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, met in Seoul with His Excellency Lee Ho–hyun, Second Assistant Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Kang Kyung-sung, CEO of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector and advance the third round of green hydrogen projects. The meetings reflect Oman's commitment to positioning itself as a leading regional hub for green hydrogen production, supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy and enhancing the Sultanate's competitiveness in global energy markets. These efforts are aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the country's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The discussions were also attended by H E Zakaria bin Hamad al Saadi, Ambassador of Oman to South Korea, and Eng. Abdulaziz bin Saeed al Shaikhani, General Manager of Hydrogen Oman Company (Hydrom).

Forum looks at importance of emotional intelligence
SALALAH: The Oman Society for Human Resource Management (OSHRM), in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, opened the 5th Annual Human Resource Forum in Salalah on Tuesday under the theme 'Leading from the Heart – The Power of Emotional and Social Intelligence in Communities.' The two-day forum, hosted at Millennium Hotel Salalah, brings together senior leaders, experts and practitioners in management and organisational development to explore the role of human-centred leadership in strengthening institutions and national talent in line with Oman Vision 2040. The opening ceremony for the two-day event was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, who felicitated the speakers and contributors to the event's organisation. The forum's events included a panel discussion titled 'People with Disabilities: From Inclusion to Effective Empowerment', which discussed ways to effectively empower and integrate people with disabilities into society and enhance their role in various fields. In his welcome remarks, Faisal al Siyabi, CEO of OSHRM, highlighted the forum's mission to 'empower people, inspire teams and lift productivity.' This was followed by a keynote from HH Sayyidah Meyyan bint Shihab al Said, who underscored the importance of values-based leadership in driving sustainable development and enabling institutions to adapt to change. The first day featured sessions on decision-making, inspiration in leadership and a panel on 'Transforming Towards Value-Driven Leadership' with contributions from Shaikha al Bassami, Abdullah al Rawahi, Shaikh Abdullah al Rawasi and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zuwed al Mashari. The forum also honoured Dr Saleh al Fahdi for his contributions to leadership thought. Working papers covered topics including emotional intelligence, team cohesion and strategic planning. A practical training session on 'Maximising Personal Impact' introduced participants to tools such as the Pareto 80/20 principle and the DISC behavioural model. 'We're in Salalah to spotlight leadership from the heart — how emotional and social intelligence help leaders succeed and organisations thrive,' said Mohammed bin Ahmed al Riyami, OSHRM board member. 'This edition also showcases journeys of employees with disabilities who advanced into leadership roles — practical lessons others can adapt.' The programme continues on Wednesday with case studies from leading organisations on how emotional and social intelligence have shaped leadership strategies and improved institutional performance. Organisers positioned the forum as a strategic platform to translate 'leading from the heart' into actionable HR practices that support national development priorities.
