Knife massacre at 15th birthday party leaves five dead and four wounded after 'killer goes on rampage when girl refuses to have sex'
Five people were killed and four more injured after a man allegedly went on a rampage at a child's 15th birthday party when a guest refused to have sex with him.
Seventeen-year-old Mikhail Paramonov is believed to have attacked guests at a country house in Siberia's Baikalsk last night after a 14-year-old girl turned him away.
Friends at the event in Irkutsk region, Russia stood up for the girl after she rejected his advances, and urged him to go to sleep because he was 'drunk'.
But Paramonov, whose parents owned the dacha, was said to have become 'heavily intoxicated' before allegedly attacking and killing four teenagers with a knife.
Children between the ages of 13 and 16 were killed in the attack, TASS reports. Four others among the 14 present were also wounded.
One girl named Veronika, 15, pretended to be dead after being stabbed - which may have saved her life. She ran to a neighbour for help, who called the police.
When the police arrived, they saw the suspect 'naked and holding a knife'.
He ran back into the house and 'opened a gas canister' before setting the house on fire, killing himself, per TASS.
Police found five bodies in the smouldering remains of the house, including four males and one female.
Most of the children had told their parents they would be staying with friends, local media.
Their guardians did not know they had travelled some 125 miles from the regional capital to stay at a 'dacha', or country house, for the party.
Regional law enforcement agencies told the TASS news agency that the private house belonged to the suspect's parents.
Anastasia Sinota, 15, whose birthday was being celebrated, escaped the massacre.
The victims were named locally as Nikolai Malyshev, 13, Vadim Pavlushkin, 14, and Oybek Bondursky, 14.
The wounded were Viktoria 'Vika' Vishnyakova, 14, Veronika Rakitneko, 15, Ruslan Fedotov, 14, and Dmitriy Semyon, 15.
Five safely left the scene of the massacre. One girl, Viktoria, 14, managed to escape just seconds before the gas explosion.
The Russian Investigative Committee has now opened a murder probe into the killing of the four teenagers.
'At some point, one of them attacked those present with a knife,' said a statement.
'As a result, four teenagers died at the scene, and another four were taken to the hospital with various injuries.
'The suspected attacker set the house on fire after the attack and died in the resulting fire.'
Astonishingly, the head of the local administration blamed the stabbing on alcohol consumption.
A former classmate said: 'Everyone is shocked, of course, that [Mikhail] could do such a thing.'
Regional children's ombudswoman Tatyana Afanasyeva said: 'As a result of this terrible crime, five teenagers were killed, including the attacker.
'Four were hospitalised. Three minors are receiving psychological assistance, they are in a state of profound shock.
'One minor was operated on, and may be transported to Irkutsk for further treatment, depending on his condition.'
Regional law enforcement agencies told the TASS news agency that the private house belonged to the suspect's parent
Irkutsk Region Governor Igor Kobzev said one of the victims was seriously wounded.
'The wounded children were hospitalised. A 14-year-old teenager with neck wounds is in extremely serious condition.'
Three days of mourning were declared in Baikalsk after the tragedy unfolded.
An operational headquarters was created in Baikalsk in connection with the incident.

LA's top cop blames masked professional ‘anarchists' for chaos at ICE protests and vows slew of arrests
The chief of the Los Angeles Police Department is promising that the number of arrests made at the protests roiling Los Angeles will 'pale in comparison' to current numbers, as violent clashes continue to spin 'out of control.' Jim McDonnell blasted hooded 'anarchists' who, he said, intend to cause mayhem and try to 'get away with whatever they can,' at odds with the intentions of other peaceful protesters. It comes as violent clashes continue in the city, prompting President Donald Trump to mobilize 2,000 more troops, and 700 U.S. Marines to assist with law enforcement. The president's decision bypassed the authorization of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a move to federalize the state's National Guard troops, which has not happened since the civil rights protests of the mid-1960's . In a statement Monday, McDonnell said the LAPD had not received any 'formal' notice that Marines would be arriving in the city but Trump said a day later that he has ordered their deployment to LA. However, speaking at a news conference the sheriff came close to contradicting the comments of both Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, who have said the decision to bring in national guardsmen and other reinforcements was 'inflammatory' and 'unnecessary.' 'Do we need them? Well, looking at tonight, this thing has gotten out of control,' McDonnell said of the national guard troops, adding that he needed to know more about the role of the troops before deciding if they were needed. 'When I look at the people who are out there doing the violence, that's not the people that we see here in the day who are out there legitimately exercising their First Amendment rights,' the police chief said. 'These are people who are all hooded up — they've got a hoodie on, they've got face masks on. They're people that do this all the time. They get away with whatever they can. Go out there from one civil unrest situation to another, using the same or similar tactics frequently. And they are connected.' McDonnell added that during the clashes over the weekend some protestors had thrown fireworks and pieces of cinderblock at officers. 'That can kill you,' he said. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, at least 50 people were arrested over the weekend. These included a man accused of ramming a motorbike into a line of officers and another who threw a Molotov cocktail. 'The number of arrests we made will pale in comparison to the number of arrests that will be made,' McDonnell said, adding that comprehensive examinations of body-worn cameras and other evidence would be undertaken to identify agitators. In his statement on Monday, McDonnell said that the arrival of federal military forces in LA, without 'clear coordination,' would present 'a significant logistical and operational challenge for those of us charged with safeguarding this city.' 'The Los Angeles Police Department, alongside our mutual aid partners, have decades of experience managing large-scale public demonstrations, and we remain confident in our ability to do so professionally and effectively,' he said. 'That said, our top priority is the safety of both the public and the officers on the ground. 'We are urging open and continuous lines of communication between all agencies to prevent confusion, avoid escalation, and ensure a coordinated, lawful, and orderly response during this critical time."

Russian politician faces criminal charge for condemning Ukraine war
LONDON, June 10 (Reuters) - Russian opposition politician Lev Shlosberg was arrested on Tuesday and charged with discrediting the Russian army after describing the Ukraine war as a game of "bloody chess", his party said. Shlosberg, 61, made the comment in a video debate in January in which he urged an end to the war. "We must first stop killing people," he said at the time. "If we achieve peace, we will regain freedom." The liberal Yabloko party, of which Shlosberg is a senior member, said his arrest was linked to those remarks. He denies the charge, it said. Shlosberg was detained after authorities searched his home and the Yabloko office in Pskov, a city near the Estonian border, the party said, adding that he was placed in pre-trial detention pending a court hearing on Wednesday. He faces up to five years if convicted under a law passed shortly after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine that has been widely applied against dissenters. He and his wife have previously been fined under the same statute. Shlosberg is one of relatively few opposition politicians remaining in the country. Scores of others who oppose the Kremlin have fled. Alexei Navalny, the most prominent domestic opponent of President Vladimir Putin, died suddenly in an Arctic penal colony in February last year. A decade ago, Shlosberg was stripped of his post in the Pskov regional assembly after he published a newspaper article alleging that Russian paratroopers buried in a cemetery in his hometown had been killed in a clandestine operation in eastern Ukraine. He separately faces another trial for failing to comply with the law on "foreign agents", a label applied by the authorities against people deemed to be involved in subversive foreign-funded political activity.
