Tegas showcases digital, TVET initiatives at Digital Dive Day 2025

KUCHING (May 23): Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) recently participated as an exhibitor at Digital Dive Day 2025, an event dedicated to promoting awareness and interest in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) among students and industry professionals.
Held from May 20 to 22 at the Sarawak Skills auditorium, the event provided a valuable platform for Tegas to engage directly with students and staff of Sarawak Skills.
As a strategic partner of Sarawak Skills and a key player in Sarawak's digital and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Tegas was invited as one of the featured exhibitors.
Throughout the event, Tegas highlighted its ongoing initiatives to support talent development, innovation, and entrepreneurship across the state.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the Tegas Digital Innovation Hub, startup programmes, and various efforts focused on nurturing the next generation of digital leaders.
Tegas' participation aligned with the event's broader goal of equipping Sarawak's youth with essential skills for the digital economy.
The engagement further strengthened collaborative ties between Tegas and Sarawak Skills in advancing Sarawak's digital and TVET agendas.

Malaysia to develop ASEAN TVET certification and excellence hub
LONDON: Malaysia is forging strategic partnerships with international educational institutions and industry players, including those from the United Kingdom (UK), to develop a regionally recognised certification and centre of excellence for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government aims not only to produce skilled workers but also to position Malaysia as a credible TVET training and certification reference centre for the ASEAN region. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid added that he had engaged in discussions with several ASEAN ministers responsible for employment and regional cooperation on TVET development. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the chairman of the National TVET Committee, in his speech, said that Malaysia is prepared to become a global platform for producing world-class TVET talent, equipped to meet the demands of the industrial market. 'We are ready to lead, but we recognise that we cannot do it alone. We will achieve this through close collaboration with ASEAN, global partners, and Malaysians abroad who share the vision of building a skilled, competitive generation ready to face the future,' he said. He also shared that student enrolment in TVET institutions rose to 436,285 last year, with 53.5 per cent of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) holders opting for TVET pathways. He said this reflects a positive shift in public perception, as TVET is no longer seen as a second-choice option. Ahmad Zahid also announced that Malaysia will host the 4th ASEAN TVET Council Regional Policy Dialogue this month, in conjunction with National TVET Day 2025. Themed 'TVET untuk Kemajuan Luar Bandar dan Serantau' (TVET for Rural and Regional Development), the dialogue will bring together delegations from ASEAN, Australia, and Germany to explore how TVET can drive inclusive growth, empower youth, and develop rural communities, as well as foster innovation exchange, industry collaboration, and national transformation.

Ahmad Zahid, Steve Reed discuss disaster management and climate change issues
LONDON: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi met with United Kingdom Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Steve Reed on Monday, during which they discussed bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and the UK. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the meeting covered topics including disaster management, clean water, and the need for new technology to enhance the country's preparedness against global climate change. 'We know these issues directly impact human life, so comprehensive approaches must be taken to address how global warming and climate change affect people. 'While river pollution is a thing of the past here in the UK, it remains a problem in our country. Public awareness about this issue must be increased,' he told reporters after the dinner with Malaysian students sponsored by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) in the UK. Also present were MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, 60 MARA-sponsored students, and 40 other guests. During the meeting, both leaders also discussed cooperation in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme and the global halal industry. 'I believe this meeting opens new avenues to elevate Malaysia-UK cooperation to a more strategic level, particularly in building an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future,' he said. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid emphasised the importance of continuously fostering a sense of belonging among MARA-sponsored students abroad, encouraging them to return and contribute to the country. He added that although the average salary may be higher in the UK, students must remain mindful of their role in Malaysia's development, as it is essential for them to contribute to the country's progress. Ahmad Zahid is currently on a four-day working visit to the UK, concluding tomorrow.
