As per officials, one of the accused Jitender and Aman had been at odds since last year when the latter allegedly assaulted the former and his brother outside the jail.
'Two UTPs Jitender and Jaidev assaulted the victim. Jitender and Aman had old animosity between them due to an incident of assault that happened in 2024 when they both were outside the jail. Aman allegedly assaulted Jitender and his brother with knife in that incident,' the statement added.
Delhi police said it had opened a probe, and an interrogation of the two inmates was underway. Preliminary report suggested Aman was strangled during the altercation inside the lockup.

Contract killing: Five arrested for plotting woman's murder near Mhow Naka
Indore: Five people involved in a knife attack on a woman near Mhow Naka on Monday were arrested. The attack, which occurred around 8:30 pm when the woman exited a gym on Footi Kothi Road, was allegedly orchestrated for seeking revenge over an old dispute. The woman was stabbed in the chest by an assailant who then fled the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice. Annapurna police registered a case under Section 109 of the BNS and launched a investigation. DCP Rishikesh Meena said that within 72 hours, police teams reviewed footage from over 150 cameras across the city, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused. The arrested individuals include Aman Goswami (18), Arjun alias Durlabh Rajput (18), Sahil Singh Chauhan (23), Manish Wadhwani (52), and Vikram Sahu (32). According to police, Aman and Arjun, who met in a juvenile correction facility, were the ones who carried out the actual attack. Aman confessed that Arjun offered him Rs 10,000 to stab the woman. Arjun provided him with her vehicle number and photo. On the day of the attack, Arjun drove Aman to the gym on a motorcycle and stayed across the street while Aman waited outside the gym. As the woman exited the gym, Aman distracted her by asking for directions to the nearby temple and then stabbed her in the chest with intent to kill. He then fled by jumping over the divider and escaping with Arjun on the bike. Further interrogation revealed that Arjun was hired by Sahil Singh Chauhan, who was promised Rs 20,000 to kill the woman. Sahil, in turn, was allegedly offered Rs 3 lakh by Manish Wadhwani, a resident of Omaxe City-1. The motive stemmed from a long-standing personal conflict between Wadhwani and the victim, who worked as a manager at Omaxe City for several years. The two had a public altercation in the past year, and Wadhwani allegedly sought revenge by plotting the attack. Wadhwani reportedly provided Sahil with the office location of the victim and even drove him there to plan the assault. Sahil and Arjun then followed the woman multiple times and eventually discovered her gym routine. The group meticulously planned and executed the attack while concealing their identities. Man accused in murder case killed by inmates in saket court lockup due to old rivalry
New Delhi: A youth accused of murder was killed by two others in the lock-up at the Saket Courts on Thursday. Police said the attack on the 24-year-old was fuelled by prior animosity caused by the deceased allegedly assaulting one of the assailants and his brother last year. Police said the incident occurred around 10am inside kharja (cell) No. 5 at the Saket Court lock-up. At the time of the incident, more than 30 inmates were housed in the cell. An argument broke out between the deceased Aman and another prisoner, Jitender, which escalated into violence. Jitender's associate, Jaidev, allegedly joined the assault on Aman. A police officer said, "Aman was hit and kicked with such force that his head struck the wall, leading to critical injuries." The youth was rushed to hospital but he was dead by then. There are also unconfirmed claims that after Aman collapsed, the attackers placed their legs on his neck and attempted to strangle him. Police said these allegations were being investigated. When the skirmish began, a policeman posted outside the cell tried to intervene but had to open a door that had two locks and in the time it took him to do this, Aman had already sustained critical injuries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Killer New Dodge Ram 1500 Is Utter Perfection (Take A Look) SocialGazette Undo "The entire incident unfolded in less than a minute," a police source said. "We also learned that the two men had a verbal spat earlier in the morning when being brought to court from Tihar Jail." A police source said the court lock-up is divided into several rooms on two floors, each room capable of holding 30-40 inmates. Inmates known to be enemies are usually not kept together. The cells are only opened in adequate police presence to prevent the cops being overpowered. Police said the attack appears to be a continuation of a feud dating back to 2024, when Aman allegedly stabbed Jitender and his brother during an argument. The hostility has apparently lingered on since. Aman was in jail since 2017 in connection with a murder case registered in Govindpuri. Jitender was arrested for robbery and snatching cases in New Friends Colony, while Jaidev was involved in a robbery case at Ambedkar Nagar. All three were lodged in Jail No 8 in Tihar. "Jitender was brought to Tihar in April this year, while Jaidev was lodged on Dec 13, 2024. Aman was initially held in Jail No. 5, but was transferred to No. 8 in 2020," an officer added. Dhir Singh Kasana, former secretary, Saket Bar Association, remarked, "The incident points at loopholes in the court's security measures. Technologies like video conferencing should be used more. An investigation must be initiated to find reasons behind the incident, including why the two criminals were kept together."
