
New Food and Drink Producers to be Showcased at Royal Welsh Food Hall
From concept to counter, the Cywain stand has been the launch-pad for countless up-and-coming food and drink producers, eager to showcase their products to a broad audience. Four different producers will take to the stand per day, each bringing their individual style and flavours to an audience looking to try and buy something new.
Cywain is a programme run by Mentera and funded by the Welsh Government, working with food and drink producers across Wales, helping them grow and develop their businesses. Support is offered in various areas, including marketing, brand development, sustainability, and finance. An essential part of that work includes supporting producers at events and test trading.

'We take great delight in helping producers to grow in experience and confidence, bringing new products to the marketplace and adding their talents to the Welsh food and drink industry as a whole.
'The Royal Welsh Food Hall is a hugely important showcase for Welsh food and drink producers, and the ultimate shopwindow – and, for the public, it is one of the 'must visit' attractions of the show.
'Such opportunities are part of Cywain's portfolio of support available for businesses throughout their growth journey, from day one start-ups to more established enterprises.'
After making a successful appearance at the Cywain stand in 2024, Swansea-based Nonna Assunta, has confidently stepped up to host its very own stand in the Food Hall this year. The brand will be showcasing their meticulously handcrafted, small-batch liqueurs that capture the vibrant essence of the Mediterranean.

TURKISH hotspot Marmaris has emerged as the best value summer resort for 2025, closely followed by Bulgaria's Sunny Beach. The two non-Eurozone destinations topped the list as the most affordable places to head for a break with the kids this year. 2 2 Post Office Travel Money partnered with tour operator Tui, which sent its reps to discover the real cost of various holiday essentials in 16 traditional Mediterranean favourites for its 17th annual Family Holiday Report. The basket of ten holiday items included lunch and evening meals for adults and kids, plus a range of soft and alcoholic drinks, suncream and insect repellent. But it's not great news for travellers as prices have risen in 13 of the 16 destinations in the past year. Marmaris in Turkey narrowly beat Bulgaria's Sunny Beach resort to emerge as cheapest. At £128.99, Marmaris had risen 10.3 per cent since July 2024, while prices in the Bulgarian resort were up 17.2 per cent year on year to £129.47. Prices in the two were nearly ten per cent lower than their closest Eurozone competitor. And although Turkey took the top spot, there was a warning from Laura Plunkett, Post Office Head of Travel Money. She said: 'The collapse of the lira makes Turkish resorts like Marmaris a natural choice for families. 'However, visitors should be aware that while sterling is worth a third more than last July, local prices have increased dramatically because of the currency's collapse. 'Thankfully, once the positive exchange rate is applied to those local prices, British visitors will only have to pay around ten per cent more than a year ago and this increase is much lower than in many other destinations.' Prices increased almost across the board, with Majorca's rising most. There, the basket came to £201.67 - up 21.4 per cent on last year. My holiday at TUI Magic Life Beldibi Prices have risen 15.5 per cent in the Algarve but at £143.56, Portugal's sunshine coast remains the cheapest in the Eurozone and third placed overall. However, there is now less than £1 between the Algarve and fourth-placed Paphos. At £144.44, prices in the Cypriot resort have fallen by 1.2 per cent since last summer. The other two destinations to record price drops were Lanzarote and Crete. Lanzarote has moved up the table into fifth place from seventh last year because of a 2.1 per cent fall in costs to £151.61. There has been a more marked reduction of 7.8 per cent in Crete (£166.07), which rises to seventh place from 15th a year ago. Ibiza has again been rated the most expensive resort of the 16 surveyed. Although the Balearic island registered the lowest price increase of 5.9 per cent, its barometer total of £242.79 is almost twice the price of Marmaris.

Paramount bidder Skydance plays patriotism card in push for deal OK
The head of entertainment group Skydance — poised to take over media conglomerate Paramount Global — told federal officials he is pursuing a focus on 'American storytelling' while touting a new, 'unbiased' editorial direction for CBS News. David Ellison, Skydance's CEO, met with Federal Communications Chairman Brendan Carr to seek approval for his firm's long-in-the-making merger with Paramount, according to a letter from a Skydance lawyer included in a federal filing. The transaction has roiled Paramount subsidiary CBS News and its longtime crown jewel, '60 Minutes,' amid fights over its editorial independence. Ellison is the son of tech billionaire Larry Ellison, a major supporter of President Donald Trump. David Ellison and Skydance's general counsel said they expressed their commitment to embracing 'diverse viewpoints' that will reflect 'the varied ideological perspectives of American viewers,' according to the filing. They also also addressed concerns about potential Chinese influence, saying that China-based tech giant Tencent, which holds a stake in Skydance, will own only a non-voting, passive interest in any new version of Paramount of less than 5%. Paramount, which also owns Comedy Central and its namesake movie studio, among other major media entities, declined to comment. Since Skydance announced its intention to merge with Paramount in an $8 billion transaction a year ago, the deal has faced multiple delays — first under the outgoing Biden administration, then under Trump. The president accused CBS News' marquee program, '60 Minutes,' of distorting an interview with Democratic opponent Kamala Harris during the 2024 election and subsequently filed a lawsuit. While many legal experts viewed the suit as frivolous, media reports said Paramount boss Shari Redstone favored exploring a settlement with Trump as a way to overcome further regulatory hurdles. Welsh Water sewage spills at highest in 10 years, NRW data shows
Welsh Water has recorded the highest number of sewage pollution incidents in 10 years, new data shows. The figures, released by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) on Friday, showed the water company was responsible for 155 pollution incidents in 2024 - 23 relating to water supply and 132 to sewerage - an increase of 42% in the past 10 years, it has called on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to make "urgent and fundamental changes to its operations", adding it had seen a "huge deterioration" in the performance of the company since Water accepted its performance "is not where it needs to be" and said it was accelerating investment in key areas to reduce pollution incidents. Despite the data showing a drop in water supply incidents in recent years, sewage incidents have increased from 89 in 2022 to 107 in 2023 and 132 in 2024. Of the total number of incidents, NRW said Welsh Water was responsible for six serious category one or two incidents - a drop from seven last year. Five of these were from sewerage assets and were all category analysis over the last 10 years also showed the main source of incidents were from foul sewers (423), storm overflows (168) and water treatment works (166).Since 2010, Welsh Water has been legally responsible for monitoring its water quality at its treatment plants and submitting its results to NRW. But in May, it was fined £1.35m for failing to properly monitor water quality at 300 different sites. Nadia De Longhi, head of regulation and permitting at NRW, said despite "repeated warnings and interventions" Welsh Water had been "unable to reverse this concerning trend"."This has left us with no choice but to pursue a number of prosecutions against the company which have recently concluded," Ms De Longhi added. "This is not the outcome we want, nor the best outcome for the environment – our priority will always be to bring companies into compliance and prevent environmental damage from happening in the first place."Welsh Water must address the root cause of these pollution incidents and take preventative measures before more harm is done to the water environment."NRW added it would be increasing its capacity for monitoring and auditing discharges, as well as clamping down on unpermitted storm overflows and introducing tighter criteria for annual performance reporting. In a statement, a Welsh Water spokesperson said the industry across the UK had seen increases in pollution incidents but acknowledged the concerns raised in the report. They said the company had improved their processes to meet the challenge, including "better monitoring leading to detecting more short-lived events and better reporting". The statement added: "We are accelerating investment in key areas to reduce pollution incidents with a £4bn investment programme that includes £2.5bn on environmental projects."While we have made progress, such as increasing the number of incidents we find and self-reporting, we know more needs to be done."We remain committed to working constructively with NRW to deliver improvements and will be engaging closely on their new requirements and guidance, including the development of pollution incident reduction plans and further use of smart technology to spot problems in the sewer network before they can cause a pollution."
