Amish woman, 58, killed after Jeep strikes buggy in Gladwin County
The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Round Lake Road (F-97) south of Renas Road, in Gladwin County's Butman Township.
The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office said Monday that two women and a teenage girl were in the Amish buggy at the time of the crash. They were ages 58, 25 and 17. They were traveling northbound on Round Lake Road when a Jeep Cherokee, also northbound, struck the buggy from behind.
The oldest of the Amish women was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. The younger two were taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Gladwin for treatment of their injuries, described as non-life-threatening.
The Jeep driver was a 38-year-old woman from Butman Township.
Round Lake Road in that area was closed to traffic for several hours while the Michigan State Police Accident Reconstructionist unit worked on the case.
Other first responder agencies assisting the deputies were Gladwin City Police Department, Gladwin Fire and Rescue, and Butman Township Fire and Rescue.
The crash is still under investigation, and reports will go to the Gladwin County Prosecutor for review.

Deadly multi-vehicle crash shuts down North Miami Beach street, knocks power nearby
Authorities are investigating a deadly crash that unfolded early Friday in a North Miami Beach neighborhood, leaving behind a trail of wreckage and power outages. The crash happened near the intersection of Northeast 16th Avenue and Northeast 152nd Street, where multiple vehicles appear to be involved. One car, virtually destroyed, showed the brunt of the impact. A tarp covered the body of a victim lying next to one of the mangled vehicles. The person's identity has not been released. Drone video from above showed the full extent of the wreckage, with at least four vehicles believed to be involved. Florida Power and Light reported about 150 customers are without electricity in the area. It's not yet clear whether the outages are directly connected to the crash. Operation Robocall Roundup sends warning letters to robocall companies about illegal activity
State attorney generals from across the country, including Michigan, have issued warning notices to over three dozen companies, demanding they take action to stop illegal robocalls being routed through their networks. Operation Robocall Roundup, a campaign by the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force led by the attorney generals for Indiana, North Carolina and Ohio, was announced Thursday. "Operation Robocall Roundup will help ensure voice service providers do their part to stop illegal robocalls," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in her press release. "I look forward to continuing to work with the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force to protect people from these persistent and intrusive calls." The first step involved sending warning letters to 37 voice providers that failed to follow Federal Communications Commission rules about responding to government traceback requests. Alternatively, they have not registered in the FCC Robocall Mitigation Database or filed a plan that explains their efforts to limit illegal robocallers from using their services. A related step is sending letters to more than 100 providers that accepted call traffic from those 37 companies "so that they know they're doing business with bad actors that are not willing to follow the rules that apply to everyone equally," Nessel's press release said. Some of the activity described in the warning letters include using hundreds of unique phone numbers to route calls, circumventing caller ID technology and ignoring instructions in the National Do Not Call Registry lists. In the meantime, Nessel said, the FCC is taking a close look at several of the companies that are under investigation by the states. The Michigan attorney general's office also has a collection of resources for the public in how to recognize and report illegal robocalls.

Deadly crash shuts down Rancho Cordova roadway, person trapped in vehicle
