Soul, Steel, Wilderness and Adventure: The Tale of Harley Davidson Pan America 1250
Last Updated:
In this article, we tried to pile up our experience, giving an overview about the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250, and making it easy for those who are planning to purchase an imported adventure tourer under Rs 20 lakh to 22 lakh.
Back in 2021, it was a dark period for the automobile industry as COVID-19 brought every single manufacturer to its knees. When everyone was playing it safe, taking a step back to introduce the latest offerings due to the global pandemic, Harley-Davidson took a different path and introduced a rebel in the market named Pan America 1250.
Ever since the model was introduced, not just in India but globally, we've seen enthusiasts react with surprise and excitement. It has been almost half a decade since the bike reached Indian shores as a CBU unit, and has comfortably made its mark in the segment.
Introduction
The company launched the model at the sticker price of Rs 20.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It was released in one variant with four decent colour options. Recently, we got the opportunity to unlock our adrenaline on the bike and test it to the core just to know what the hype is all about.
We covered almost 500km in four days, and tried to know all the positive and negative aspects of the vehicle. In this article, we tried to pile up our experience, giving an overview to those who are planning to purchase an imported adventure sport touring, and looking for decent options under Rs 20 lakh to 22 lakh. So take a few extra minutes to read till the end, you might end up having a wise option on your priority list.
The model uses a responsive 1252cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine that generates impressive power, 150.19 bhp at 8750 rpm and a peak torque of 128 Nm at 6750 rpm. The unit is mated to a smooth, complemented by clutch assist and slipper clutch for better output. The whole setup feels smooth, responsive and proudly flaunts Harley's DNA from each corner.
Design Language and Comfort
Aesthetically, the Pan America truly feels like a moving bomb on the road. It gets everything one can ask for from any adventure bike. From a bold stance to a head-turning eye-pleasing style statement to a boss look, the bike feels a complete blend of futuristic and timeless piece of steel.
The model does not try to mimic the rugged charm of BMW GS or the rally-inspired sharp cuts of KTM 1290 Super Adventure. Instead, it has its own identity as it has been born with the company's signature DNA with a brutish visual language.
The big fat tourer has been treated with a long list of advanced elements. The list includes a rectangular-shaped, fully LED headlight setup, paired with integrated DRLS. The fog light has been placed right above the headlight unit.
On the sides, it gets sleek looking, circular indicators at both ends, while the engine setup has been slightly exposed to make it look more dominating in its segment. For the riders' safety, the company has added knuckle guards on the handlebars, while very rough and rugged-looking side mirrors are there that enhance its overall charm.
The motorcycle offers an impressive upright seating position, well-placed pegs, and wide handlebars that make long days in the saddle comfortable. It is also complemented by plenty of wind protection from the adjustable screen, and gets a practical optional luggage system for long-distance touring. Harley didn't just build a bike that can cover the mile, it truly wants to leave some marks on untouched terrains.
Innovation and Features
The area where Pan America 1250 sets itself apart from the crowd is its cutting-edge technology and advanced features. It comes with the segment's leading Adaptive Ride Height (ARH) feature. It starts showing the magic as soon as the rider switches on the bike. The semi-active suspension works seamlessly, forcing the bike to get lower automatically, allowing the short-height plant to put their feet without feeling the stress of holding a big gun.
Notable Features
The other highlighted features include cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, multiple riding modes to run on any surface, Brembo brakes, Michelin Scorcher Adventure tires that are co-developed specifically for the Pan America, and a crisp 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity, which allows the customers to have all the important details right in front of their eyes.
Stability and Mileage
Despite having an insane kerb weight between 245 to 258 kg, the bike feels super easy to handle. In every turn, it inspires confidence to lean the vehicle to a certain degree, while opening up the throttle as much as possible.
The gripping of tyres can be felt on every mile. The only thing that might force you to pull your hair is its mileage as it drinks petrol like a thirsty camel. The company claims the model is capable of offering a fuel efficiency between 18.18 to 18.3 km/l. However, we end up having slightly less even though we were gentle and riding it in a less aggressive mode. But, we feel 'Kitna Deti Hai" question would not matter to the target audience if they know what they are investing in.
Here's What We Think
The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 isn't just 'good for a Harley." It's good for a true petrol head who is looking for both joy in riding and comfort, period. It checks all the expectations and proudly proves that even the most iconic brands can evolve and set new benchmarks, without losing their soul.
It is safe to say that the model is s wild card in a deck full of predictable kings and queens. And sometimes, the wild card is considered the most exciting one to play with. So, if you have the budget mentioned above and want to have a true companion on your next serious adventure, the Pan America 1250 could be a wise choice without a doubt.

M&M eyes the world for its new SUVs, to reckon with Chinese brands
Over the last four years, Mahindra & Mahindra has made August 15 a commemorative occasion to make big ticket announcements on new products and strategic initiatives. These events have taken place in the UK and South Africa while India has played host in recent times. This time around in Mumbai, the company made known its intent to develop an all-new platform which would spawn four SUVs with different powertrain options including electric, petrol and diesel. More importantly, M&M said this was part of a larger global roadmap where countries like South Africa, Australia and the UK would be targeted for its new SUV range. Vision 2027 to that extent is a big step forward for the company where a slew of new SUVs will lead the way. This year's Freedom initiative also saw M&M unveil its Batman edition of the BE 6 electric SUV priced at nearly ₹28 lakh . The numbers will be limited to 300 units and clearly the idea is to present the masked hero from DC Comics to India's affluent younger generation which is perhaps more familiar with the movie series that continues to hit global screens. What we are hearing right now is a very large proportion of people who never considered MahindraRajesh Jejurikar BE 6 as the Indian Batmobile For those familiar with Batman, his comic debut goes back to 1939, three years after The Phantom (who was way more popular as a comic hero in India but did not make much of an impact in the US unlike Batman or Superman). There have been a whole lot of Batman movies which have made their way to India and his Batmobile now has an Indian sibling in the form of the BE 6. Clearly, the signal from M&M is that it is pushing the envelope harder in styling and design combined with modern, funky features that will appeal to India's growing pool of young automobile enthusiasts. Electric is a vital component of the world's tilt towards cleaner fuel alternatives and carmakers, especially those from China, have realised that they can really go the extra mile with radical concepts in design and the latest in electronics. The underlying message is this: electric does not have to be boring by way of merely offering a sole objective of protecting the environment. Today's SUV and motorcycle buyers value their independence and privacy, more so after COVID when they prefer to be in silos. It explains why premium bikes are sought after with exclusive riding clubs where people come together. Likewise, for the more affluent with higher disposable incomes, their cars and SUVs need to offer the feeling of a home away from home. Also Read: Mahindra unveils Global Vision 2027, showcases four 'NU' SUV concepts Right price points This is pretty much on the lines of smartphones which have now become essential companions for everyone. The key, however, for companies like M&M is to ensure that all this is offered at an affordable, or more specifically a value-for-money, price point. This is particularly true for EVs where the mass segment of buyers will typically be comfortable with offering priced at ₹15-18 lakh. As much as Indian customers like the latest features in their EVs, there is only so much that they will be ready to cough up. To that extent, the MG Windsor has hit the sweet spot which is borne out by its market share of over 30 per cent in the EV space and its rapid growth since its debut in September last year. M&M's BE 6 and XEV 9e have doubtless made a mark with combined sales at over 3,000 units each month and in the third place after Tata Motors and MG Motor India. However, offering more price options under ₹20 lakh can draw more buyers and this is where the new platform, NU_IQ, unveiled on August 15, will play a role. The fact that petrol and diesel will also be offered in the four concept SUVs that were unveiled also indicates that it makes more sense to be pragmatic and not focus on electric alone. Across the world, countries are going a lot slower on their EV plans since they have realised that it makes little sense to put all their eggs in one basket. Also Read: Mahindra eyes 350-acre land acquisition in Igatpuri for expansion China challenge There are enormous challenges in planning economies of scale and European and Japanese carmakers know only too well that competing with the Chinese is a completely different kettle of fish. It also explains why both the US and EU have placed firewalls in the form of tariffs on EV imports from China simply because their own brands could be wiped out in the process. This is evident from the rapidly diminishing market share of top brands like Volkswagen in China where they once reigned supreme but now face pressure from EV players like Geely, SAIC and many other local brands. Beyond traditional automakers, the likes of Xiaomi and Huwaei, which are in the electronics space, have also thrown their hats into the EV ring and have a huge list of bookings already in place for their SUVs. As for M&M, it has been on a high for sometime now thanks largely to the stupendous market response to the Thar and its sibling the Thar Roxx. It then had potential customers floored with the BE 6 and XEV 9e which literally redefined the design game coupled with top-class performance. The market was gobsmacked simply because M&M had taken the EV package many notches higher with a host of radical features. The duo has now been notching average monthly numbers of 3,000 units combined with the XEV 9e taking up a larger chunk of sales. We were selling this as a lifestyle SUV statement, what we may call 'objects of desire', based on three primary bases of Jejurikar Multiplier effect In one of its more recent Q&A sessions with analysts, the leadership team had said that the dynamics of launching two products at the same time was actually leading to a positive multiplier effect since the two segments are so different. 'What we are hearing right now is a very large proportion of people who never considered Mahindra,' Rajesh Jejurikar, ED & CEO, Auto and Farm Sectors, had said. There were people in the ₹25 lakh-30 lakh car bracket looking at luxury brands or owning a luxury brand. As a result, it was a very different profile of customer than what the company had handled in the past. By the end of the day, M&M was confident that its electric SUV strategy, based on 'three primary bases of differentiation' would pay off in the market. 'We had also spoken about the fact that we wanted to launch these as highly aspirational 'wow' offerings. We first had to get the customer emotionally connected to 'Yeah, I need to own this' or 'I really want to own this', and then start dealing with some of the barriers which come in the way,' continued Jejurikar. The company had made it clear that it was not planning to retail the new offerings on conventional parameters of economy or fuel saving and so on. 'We were selling this as a lifestyle SUV statement, what we may call 'objects of desire', based on three primary bases of differentiation. One is the design, the second is the HMI or the intuitive human machine interface and third is the high-tech features,' he said. Also Read: Mahindra plans world tour on multi-energy, modular SUV platform Broader horizons Now, with the new NU_IQ platform, M&M has clearly set its sights on broader horizons. As part of its Global Vision 2027, the company believes there is more headroom to grow with its new basket of authentic core SUVs . 'We will stay true to this space with best in class features and go global,' said the leadership team. The goal is to offer world-beating products with the best ground clearance, super relaxing legroom, huge luggage space and vehicles designed for global safety standards. M&M has been on a roll lately after losing its way for some years. The recently announced global plans will need to factor in the reality of Chinese rivals who are already going out for the kill while exploring new geographies across Europe, Latin America and ASEAN. M&M has a presence in South Africa and Australia which means it will have its work cut out taking on the Chinese in the coming years.

Tamil Nadu's Fourth Auto Cluster Takes Shape with VinFast EV Plant
Vietnam's VinFast has inaugurated its $500 million EV plant in Thoothukudi, a flagship project in Tamil Nadu's blueprint to build its fourth automotive cluster and position the southern port city at the heart of the state's all-electric future Gurugram, Haryana, India (NewsVoir) Once celebrated for its pearl fisheries, Thoothukudi has grown into a major port city and a cornerstone of Tamil Nadu's maritime trade. For generations, its docks shipped cotton yarn, salt and dried fish, sustaining the local economy. Now the city stands on the brink of another transformation. VinFast's 400-acre electric vehicle assembly plant in the SIPCOT industrial park has been launched on August 4, backed by an intial $500 million investment and a phase-one capacity of 50,000 vehicles annually. The project is expected to reshape Thoothukudi's industrial identity and anchor a new phase of growth in southern Tamil Nadu. VinFast Plants Stakes in Southern Tamil Nadu Founded in 2017 as part of Vietnam's Vingroup conglomerate, VinFast rapidly became the country's top-selling car brand by 2024, its all-electric SUVs earning recognition in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. India, with its fast-growing EV market and supportive policies, was the next logical step. After evaluating 15 sites across six states, VinFast chose Tamil Nadu for its port access, strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and a proactive government committed to building the state's first all-electric vehicle cluster. The new plant will integrate welding, painting and final assembly under one roof, with the first vehicles—the premium VF 6 and VF 7 designed for Indian buyers—expected to roll out later this year. It forms the centerpiece of VinFast's broader plan for India, which is focused on building a comprehensive EV ecosystem. As part of this strategy, the company is partnering with RoadGrid and myTVS to establish hundreds of service centers, working with BatX Energies on battery recycling to create a sustainable closed-loop process, and collaborating with 13 dealer groups to launch 35 dealerships in 27 cities, ensuring wide sales coverage from day one. "VinFast is committed to making EVs more accessible while contributing to economic growth through investment and local job creation," a company spokesperson said, positioning the brand as a 'global premium EV' that remains within reach of Indian consumers. Tamil Nadu's Blueprint for EV Clustering VinFast's investment fits Tamil Nadu's plan to expand EV manufacturing and push growth beyond its crowded northern hubs. Over the past four years, the state has drawn INR 7.51 trillion in investment, with southern districts now capturing nearly a third, a marked shift from the historical dominance of the north. Faced with the choice of expanding congested hubs or building new ones, officials opted for the latter. Thoothukudi stood out for its port access, abundant land and trained labor pool, offering a clear export edge. Under the plan, Thoothukudi is set to become Tamil Nadu's first all-electric automotive cluster and its fourth major auto hub, joining Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hosur. Common facilities for motor, power electronics, and battery production are in development, with a third for vehicle testing under review. An EV Taskforce is steering the initiative, coordinating with industry players to create a complete supply ecosystem. A parallel effort is underway to prepare the workforce. Through the state's flagship 'Naan Mudhalvan' program, hundreds of students have completed three weeks of training in technical, aptitude and communication skills, and VinFast has already taken on about 200 graduates. The company is shaping its staff with a hybrid 80–20 model in which the majority are local freshers or trainees, supported by a smaller group of experienced professionals. Together with its suppliers, the plant is expected to generate 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs, raising wages and offering steady employment. The effect is certain to extend well beyond the factory floor, since studies suggest that every job in auto manufacturing can generate another four to 11 positions, whether in component suppliers, transport and logistics, or in the shops and services where automotive workers spend their paychecks. Economic Ripples Beyond the Factory Gates VinFast's arrival underscores Tamil Nadu's bet on EVs as a path to inclusive growth, with Thoothukudi anchoring a new industrial corridor in the south. Its trajectory echoes other cities reinventing themselves, yet its scale and pace stand out, driven by state planning and VinFast's ambitions. Once known for pearls, Thoothukudi may soon be celebrated for thousands of battery-powered vehicles bound for markets worldwide.
