David Gray delighted as Hibernian respond to Midtjylland loss with win at Dundee
However, Gray was rewarded with a strong display as Kieron Bowie's first-half double proved enough to overcome a Dee side who pulled one back through Fin Robertson.
'I'm delighted because after everything the players put in Thursday night, everybody would be looking at today's game wondering would there be a hangover, how will the players react the first time they went Thursday-Sunday,' the manager said.
'The players reacted in the best possible way with a real professional performance. I thought we controlled the game from start to finish.'
Gray was heartened to see recently-capped Scotland forward Bowie get off the mark so early in the campaign after he endured an injury-disrupted first season at Hibs.
'That's the reason he was brought to the club,' he said. 'He's suited to Scottish football as well, with the physicality, he really enjoys that side to the game.
'The confidence levels will be high with the Scottish recognition as well, which is fantastic for him on a personal note, but he's working hard every day, he's getting fitter, he's getting stronger and really benefiting from a strong pre-season.'
Gray was typically coy when asked about the future of defender Lewis Miller, who is understood to be close to joining Blackburn. The Australian is currently recovering from injury.
'There has been interest in him, but right now he's still a Hibs player and until he's not, my focus is on trying to get him back on the pitch as quick as we can,' he said.
Dundee boss Steven Pressley said he saw some 'green shoots' of recovery against the Hibees after his side's demoralising Premier Sports Cup group-stage exit last month.
However, the 51-year-old, taking charge of a match in Scotland's top flight for the first time in 15 years, felt they were 'nervy' in possession and was keen to stress the scale of the task he inherited in June.
'Almost every single goal from the team of last season was not there today,' said Pressley, whose talismanic captain Simon Murray missed out with injury.
'It's a big rebuild. I'm not trying to pull the wool over anybody's eyes.
'There's a lot of hard work ahead. We probably need another six players in to bolster the squad and it's a real challenge.'

It's hard to say whether Aberdeen are ready for their Tynecastle test on Monday – but trouble lies ahead if they're not. It doesn't come much tougher than a trip to Hearts for Aberdeen's first game of the season. For me, facing champions Celtic at Celtic Park is the only game tougher than facing Hearts on their own turf for the first game of the season. I don't think a trip to Ibrox to face Rangers would have been as challenging for Jimmy Thelin's side as going to Tynecastle is going to be, but I'm fascinated to see how this is going to play out. The Jambos are on a roll. They've spent a lot of money in the summer, they've got momentum and in Derek McInnes they have a former Dons boss looking to get off to a flier in his first league game against his old club. Hearts will be focused on being back in the hunt for European places this season after a disappointing campaign and in McInnes they have a manager with a track record of qualifying for Europe in the last 10 years. Add in the atmosphere and Aberdeen's recent record at Hearts then it is not hard to see why the Premiership opener is such a tough start for the Dons. As to whether the Dons are ready for their opening day test, I find myself struggling to answer that question. We've seen so little of the Dons this summer that it makes gauging where they are in their preparations so tough. I've no doubt the training camp in Portugal will have helped the new players settle into the squad but it feels as if it has been an unusually long summer for Dons fans since the euphoria of Scottish Cup glory in May. I'm used to going into the first weekend in August having watched the Dons in the early qualifying rounds in Europe or having played some friendlies and four Premier Sports Cup group matches. But this year much of the work has been done away from the public eye. From what I have seen though I am not expecting the manager to deviate from his approach of last season as he did in the cup final against Celtic when he switched to three at the back. I expect 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-4 depending on how you look at it with two wide players, a number nine and a player in the number 10 position off the main striker taking to the Tynecastle pitch. Once the players cross the line though, it's up to them to get to grips with the challenge they are facing. I would expect the manager and the senior players will have the new faces well briefed on what to expect in Edinburgh. I hope that's the case as Tynecastle can catch you out if you're not ready for it. There's a reason why so many players enjoy going there and the atmosphere is top of the list. Nothing will be determined on day one of course but there's little doubt a first win for the Dons at Tynecastle since May 2017 would be a major statement from Thelin's players on Monday. The departure of the dancing Don Pape Habib Gueye for Turkey on Friday represents a good piece of business for Aberdeen, but it has left them lacking in forwards. We have another four weeks until the transfer window closes but it is going to be a busy month at Pittodrie and the lack of firepower is the biggest issue for me. I haven't seen enough of new striker Kusini Yengi to say whether he is the man to lead the line for the Dons this season. But Ester Sokler has had little involvement in pre-season which leaves Peter Ambrose and Fletcher Boyd as the only other striker options for Thelin to choose from. The Dons want to add AC Milan forward Marko Lazetic to their ranks but I would hope a striker with some pedigree is also on the manager's August shopping list. Kevin Nisbet was the man to get the goals in the absence of Bojan Miovski last season and Aberdeen could certainly benefit from the addition of a proven finisher in their ranks this month. The continued absence of Emmanuel Gyamfi will also have given Thelin much to ponder. The summer signing has not featured yet due to injury leaving Thelin with having to go with Graeme Shinnie, Nicky Devlin or Gavin Molloy in the left back slot. It will be interesting to see if another left back to compete for that position is also added to the shopping list before the window closes.

Rangers vs Viktoria Plzen to be shown on BBC Scotland
BBC Scotland confirmed they will air the first leg of the third-round qualifier, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday. Russell Martin's team are hoping for progress, with a potential play-off against RB Salzburg or Club Brugge. A defeat would result in a drop to the Europa League. There's a possibility that new signing Oliver Antman could make his debut. The winger, bought for around £3 million, could be registered in time for the game. Martin said: "Thelo [Aasgaard] and Hamza [Igamane] won't make it in time for tomorrow evening. "Hopefully, Antman will be registered in time, but we'll need to wait and see." BBC Scotland will also broadcast Dundee United's next European match. Jim Goodwin's men will be in Austria on Thursday, facing Rapid Vienna in their Europa Conference League qualifier. The Arabs face a tough task against the Austrians, but a win would see them face either AIK Stockholm or FC Gyor in the play-off round. United's match with Rapid Vienna will be shown live on BBC Scotland.

Antman ready for Rangers debut and Diomande reunion
The Finnish winger today joined the Scottish Premiership giants after a spell in the Netherlands with Go Ahead Eagles. Russell Martin hopes his ninth summer signing will be registered in time to face Viktoria Plzen in the club's third round Champions League qualifier tomorrow night. If called upon, Antman insists he's ready after doing a full pre-season with his former side. "When I first heard Rangers were interested, I was excited because it is a huge club, and you don't get these kinds of opportunities many times in your life," the 23-year-old told Rangers TV. 'The last couple of days have been really busy and stressful but now I am ready to settle in. "I am excited for tomorrow, the first match at Ibrox. I have heard it is a special place, but I haven't even seen it yet, so I am excited for everything that is to come. "I have trained with Go Ahead Eagles now for over a month, I have had five training matches and also a 90-minute game, so I'm fully fit and ready." Antman played with fellow teammate Mohamed Diomande in Denmark during his time spent with Nordsjælland. And the winger admits he sounded out the midfielder after moving to Glasgow. He added: "Of course, I played with Diomande for many years. "I asked him 'Should I come? Is it a nice place?'. He said only nice things about it."
