Kate Spade taps Ice Spice and Charli D'Amelio for spring 2025 campaign

Fashion Network01-05-2025
Kate Spade New York has tapped Grammy-nominated artist Ice Spice and social media star and dancer Charli D'Amelio for its Spring/Summer 2025 global campaign.
Dubbed 'To The Ones Who Carry Us,' the campaign spotlights the universal roles friends play in a girl's life. At the center of the campaign is the Deco Chain Shoulder Bag, available in new seasonal colorways including Blue Multi Denim, Jungle Vine, Pistachio, Sweet Cream and Apricot Cream.
This campaign is a vibrant love letter to the friends who shape a girl's life,' said Eva Erdmann, CEO and brand president of Kate Spade New York.
'Since joining the brand, we've been exploring new meaningful ways to connect with a younger audience. In a world where digital interactions often overshadow genuine connections, the profound bond of friendship becomes, more than ever, an indispensable anchor. Kate Spade New York's latest campaign celebrates fierce friends: the ones who show up, have your back, and brighten the everyday. As Kate Spade herself once said, 'A good friend is like the perfect handbag – always by your side, effortlessly lifting your spirit, and making every adventure a little more fabulous.''
Aimed at connecting with a younger audience, the campaign introduces a fresh visual aesthetic and emotional storytelling that reflect the fast-moving, interconnected lives of Gen Z. Set against the backdrop of a bold urban cityscape, it highlights creative scenes that bring modern, relatable energy to the brand.
'Growing up in New York, I've always been a fan of Kate Spade and their iconic designs. This campaign was exciting to me because it's all about celebrating friendships,' said Ice Spice. 'My friends mean everything to me—they keep me grounded, especially my sister and cousins. They're the ones I call when I'm homesick, when I'm hyped, or when I just need to be reminded of who I am and where I came from.'
'I'm so excited to partner with Kate Spade New York,' added Charli D'Amelio. 'I've loved the brand for years, especially how its modern designs allow me to express my own personal style. I think it's really cool to see how this campaign celebrates the power of friendship and the joy it brings. It makes me think of the lifelong friendships I have that started as a child, growing up, going to school together, being in the same dance company, or new friends I've met through work or moving to new cities – I am so grateful to have had the amazing opportunity of forming friendships with new people along the way.'

Dolly Parton becomes Guinness World Records icon

As part of its 70th anniversary celebrations, Guinness World Records has honoured US country star Dolly Parton as one of their icons. The company – which lists world record achievements – has given Parton, 79, an Icon certificate, presented to her at her studios in Nashville, Tennessee, celebrating the fact that the 'Jolene' singer holds 11 record-breaking titles. These include most consecutive decades with top 10 album entries on the Billboard country chart, most studio albums released by a female country singer, and most Grammy nominations for a female country artist. Parton was also the first country singer to be nominated for the EGOT – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – aka the 'Grand Slam of showbusiness'. Craig Glenday, editor in chief at Guinness World Records, said: 'Dolly is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated writers and performers in the history of country music, as reflected in her many Guinness World Records certificates, but her reach and influence extends far beyond the musical world.' He added: 'There are so many projects close to her heart – poverty relief, education, medical research and of course the Imagination Library free-books campaign – and it's these important, life-changing initiatives that propels Dolly into a different league. She truly is a living legend, and it's an honour to bestow GWR Icon status upon her.' Parton's charitable and philanthropic work includes the Dollywood Foundation, founded in 1988. The institution champions the education of children in her home state of Tennessee. As for her literacy initiative, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, it has distributed more than 285 million books globally since 1995. Besides her music career, Parton has starred in films like 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias, and earned two original song Oscar nominations for '9 to 5', and 'Travelin' Thru from Transamerica' from the film Transamerica. In June, it was announced that she would be honoured in November with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award – an Oscar statuette presented to Hollywood figures renowned for 'promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities'. Guinness World Records published its first book in London in 1955 and has sold more than 143 million copies in over 100 countries since then. The Icon certificate has previously been awarded to stars including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John.

Justin Timberlake reveals Lyme disease diagnosis

Justin Timberlake has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, the popstar announced on Instagram. Timberlake shared the news in a post commemorating his Forget Tomorrow tour, which wrapped in Turkey on Wednesday after more than 120 shows around the world. The singer described the tour, which lasted for over a year, as 'the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling experience.' He said that living with Lyme disease 'can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically', adding that learning about the diagnosis was a shock. The former NSYNC star, who described himself as a private person, wrote he considered ending the tour when diagnosed, but that he 'decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going.' Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, also known as deer ticks. It can cause flu-like conditions, neurological problems, joint paint and other symptoms. The first sign is often a red, round bull's-eye rash. Untreated Lyme can cause severe arthritis and damage the heart and nervous system. In the vast majority of cases, Lyme disease is successfully treated with antibiotics. 'I honestly don't know what my future is onstage, but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It's been the stuff of legend for me,' Timberlake wrote. Timberlake cancelled and postponed multiple shows throughout the tour's run, citing health issues including bronchitis and laryngitis. Timberlake ultimately cancelled the last show of the US leg of the tour in Ohio due to the flu in February. The 10-time Grammy winner ended the post thanking his wife, Jessica Biel, and their two sons, Silas and Phin, saying 'nothing is more powerful than your unconditional love. You are my heart and my home. I'm on my way.' Many celebrities have spoken up about their experience with Lyme disease in recent years, including comedian Amy Schumer and singers Justin Bieber and Shania Twain. Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid has become a major voice on the issue after she said she was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in 2012. She later revealed two of her children, models Bella and Anwar Hadid, suffered from the same illness. There is no scientific consensus over whether a chronic form of Lyme disease actually exists. The US Centers for Disease Control and Privention (CDC) 'discourages use of the term Chronic Lyme Disease' as the cause for prolonged symptoms is not currently known. Hadid released her memoir "Believe Me: My Battle with the Invisible Disability of Lyme Disease" in 2017. 'This disease has brought me and many others to our knees, often wishing to die of utter hopelessness and exhaustion', she said in a speech at the 2016 Global Lyme Alliance Gala in New York. The CDC cites insurance records suggesting 476,000 people are treated for Lyme disease in the US each year.

American Eagle 'jeans' campaign that stars Sydney Sweeney under fire

Some social media users are outraged, saying the wordplay of the tagline "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," coupled with the actor's blue eyes and blonde hair, has racial undertones. Others are praising the campaign as lacking "woke" politics. "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My genes are blue," Sweeney, wearing denim on denim, says in one video. People across social media have leveled criticism spanning the gamut, with some saying the campaign promotes "white supremacy" and "eugenics" while others have called it "sterile," a sign of "regression" or simply "rage bait." But many others have applauded the campaign, posting comments like "woke is broke!" and "culture shift!" Conservative Republican senator Ted Cruz of Texas posted a photo of Sweeney on X and wrote, "Wow. Now the crazy Left has come out against beautiful women. I'm sure that will poll well." Neither American Eagle nor the Emmy-nominated Sweeney, the 27-year-old actor best known for roles in the series "The White Lotus" and "Euphoria," have publicly responded to the backlash. "Sweeney's girl next door charm and main character energy -- paired with her ability to not take herself too seriously -- is the hallmark of this bold, playful campaign," AE said in a statement last week when the advertisements launched. 'Values of another time' The company said its collaboration with Sweeney was meant to "further elevate its position as the #1 jeans brand for Gen Z." As part of the campaign, AE had also said it was launching a limited-run "Sydney Jean" that retails for $79.95 and features a butterfly motif on the back pocket, which the brand said is meant to represent domestic violence awareness. Proceeds from the jeans will go to Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit offering mental health support, AE, a company started in 1977, said. In the wake of the chatter triggered by the campaign, Washington Post fashion critic Rachel Tashjian wrote that whether or not the ad had racial undertones or anything intentional to say beyond selling jeans, it "is part of a wave of imagery of influencers, pop stars and musicians that feels tethered to the values of another time." "For the past five or six years, it seemed like fashion and pop culture were very interested in -- even dedicated to -- body positivity. Now we're being fed a lot of images of thinness, whiteness and unapologetic wealth porn," Tashjian said.
