Angels Predicted to Make Trade After Season-Ending Announcement

Yahoo16-05-2025

The Los Angeles Angels are just 17-25, which is last in the American League West standings. This comes after a franchise record 99 losses last season. As they attempt to climb back into postseason contention, the Angels have also been hit by injuries.
After playing in 29 straight games following a move to right field that intended to keep him healthier, 11-time All-Star Mike Trout landed on the 10-day injured list with a left knee bone bruise. Among others, Trout joined right-handed relief pitcher Ben Joyce on the injured list, who was placed there in April due to right shoulder inflammation.

After some conflicting reports on the perceived severity of Joyce's injury, the Angels made the unfortunate announcement that he would undergo surgery and be out for the season.

'Ben Joyce underwent surgery to repair his right shoulder earlier this morning," the team announced on Wednesday. "He is expected to miss the remainder of the season.'
Had the Angels been higher up the standings, perhaps the Joyce news would prompt them to pursue another late-inning reliever in the trade market. Instead, the team is predicted to go in a different direction, and actually trade away from its bullpen.
In an article on Thursday, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted the Angels could deal right-handed closer Kenley Jansen before the deadline.
"Closer Kenley Jansen, who's playing on a one-year, $10 million contract, could also be a popular trade target this summer," he wrote.
After a perfect start to his Angels tenure, pitching eight straight scoreless outings, Jansen has struggled recently. In the month of May, he has surrendered eight earned runs in just three innings pitched.

Jansen ranks fourth all-time in saves with 454.

New Orleans Saints urged to swing pricy trade for former Pro Bowl QB

All 32 teams are ramping up their offseason activity to prepare for their first mandatory practices of the summer. That includes the New Orleans Saints, who are still hunting for their next franchise quarterback. While second-round rookie Tyler Shough seemingly has the best chance of emerging as the starting QB in New Orleans, he's competing with two other recent draftees. In other words, there's not a lot of experience in the QB room. Advertisement The Saints are giving their young quarterbacks the opportunity to either sink or swim, but what if they realize a more competent arm with experience is what's needed in New Orleans this year? There could be a solution nearby. Specifically, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay believes it's worth a shot for the Saints to try trading for Kirk Cousins. 'New Orleans is running out of options to fix a QB room that consists of second-round rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. If the club wants to compete in 2025, it must swing a trade for Kirk Cousins—the last remaining proven veteran who is realistically available.' Bleacher Report on Kirk Cousins Kay's proposal sees the Saints swap Jake Haener plus a fifth-round pick in 2026 to go with a sixth-round pick in 2027 in exchange for Cousins. Of course, Cousins plays for one of the Saints' NFC South division rivals. Would the Atlanta Falcons even pick up the phone to negotiate a trade that sends a veteran quarterback to the Saints, especially with the understanding that Cousins could pass along key features of the offense? Advertisement The only way this trade could get done is if the Saints are willing to pay the bulk of Cousins' contract. If New Orleans gets desperate, why not consider adding a four-time Pro Bowl QB? Arizona Cardinals trade idea lands another superstar weapon for Kyler Murray

The Arizona Cardinals are headed in the right direction under general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon. Last year, they came close to a playoff appearance by winning eight games. But now there's a certain sense of confidence in the air, with the Cardinals believing they can take the next step toward securing a playoff spot. While the Cardinals already feel like the work they've done this offseason is good enough to help take the next step, they could still have a sneaky move or two up their sleeves. But what about adding a well-known superstar to help Kyler Murray return to being a Pro Bowl quarterback, or better? Advertisement Specifically, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay believes the Cardinals' front office should prepare a trade offer for Miami Dolphins All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill. Kay's idea is for the Cardinals to send a third-round pick, plus a fourth-rounder in exchange to Miami for Hill, and then likely signing him to a contract extension that extends past his current deal, which expires at the end of the 2026 league year. 'The Arizona Cardinals are a potential landing spot for Hill. The team is on the rise under head coach Jonathan Gannon, going from 4-13 in his first season to 8-9 last year. The receiving corps still needs a jolt, however, as Arizona avoided making any major splashes in free agency or the draft at the position. While the Cardinals have a foundational pass-catcher in Marvin Harrison Jr. to build around for the long haul, adding Hill would give quarterback Kyler Murray the weapons he needs to contend in wide-open NFC West races this coming year and over the next few seasons.' Bleacher Report on Arizona Cardinals/Tyreek Hill Pairing Hill with Marvin Harrison Jr feels like a dream, especially for Murray. Plus, the Cards still have Trey McBride, who emerged as a bona fide weapon last season, going off for a career-high 1,146 receiving yards. Put all three of them together with James Conner bruising defenders out of the backfield, and the Cardinals' offense could suddenly morph into a top-five scoring unit.
