Angels Urged to Explore Trade of Outfield Pair 'Drawing Significant Interest'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Angels haven't made a playoff appearance since 2014. Currently in fourth place in the American League West while sitting 4.5 games out of the last AL wild-card spot, the franchise is likely looking at an 11th straight season without postseason baseball. While that may be a grim proposition for the Angels, it could present an opportunity for playoff-hungry teams ahead of the MLB trade deadline. And while closer Kenley Jansen's name has been thrown around in trade conversations, a pair of outfielders could become available before Thursday's deadline. ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA - JULY 11: Taylor Ward #3 and Jo Adell #7 of the Los Angeles Angels slide for the double by Randal Grichuk #15 of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth inning at Angel... ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA - JULY 11: Taylor Ward #3 and Jo Adell #7 of the Los Angeles Angels slide for the double by Randal Grichuk #15 of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth inning at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on July 11, 2025 in Anaheim, California. MoreThe Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported that outfielders Taylor Ward and Jo Adell "are both drawing significant interest." Rosenthal added that the Angels "should at least explore what both might bring back in a thin market." The wild card in this scenario is that owner Arte Moreno may not want to sell with his team technically still alive in the playoff hunt, even if the team's postseason chances currently sit at 4% on FanGraphs. The 31-year-old Ward is having a career year, with 25 home runs and a career-high 78 RBIs to go with his .800 OPS. He is one home run and two doubles away from setting new career highs in those categories as well. Ward has one year left of team control before reaching free agency in 2027. The 26-year-old Adell is likewise having the best season of his young career, with 21 home runs, 60 RBIs and a .765 OPS. Adell will be arbitration-eligible next season and is under team control for two more seasons. More MLB: Pirates GM Breaks Silence On Loud Mitch Keller Trade Rumors

Yankees Projected to Replace Anthony Volpe With Trade Upgrade After Harsh Reception
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees are stumbling into the trade deadline and it could be forcing a significant change of plans. After a strong start to the season and Most Valuable Player Award caliber first half from slugger Aaron Judge made it seem as if the Yankees would be making several dramatic upgrades at the deadline, a move to the injured list for Judge and a skid in the standings could be altering that outlook. "Not only are they playing like a sub-.500 team (15-24 since June 13), they sound like a group reduced to looking for scraps," Bob Klapisch wrote for "Yes: praying to sneak in the back door via the wild card and get hot for two weeks in October. It's embarrassing for a team that was seven games up in late May." If the Yankees are now thinking more about competing next season or even contemplating selling some pieces at the deadline, then their latest additions would mark their biggest for the year. The Angels won 1-0. (Photo by) More Stier/Getty Ryan McMahon, acquired from the Colorado Rockies, appears to be a long-term solution at third base. And Amed Rosario, acquired from the Washington Nationals, could soon be a new starting shortstop option for the team. "I'd be worried if I were Anthony Volpe, who went 0-for-3 with two more strikeouts," Klapisch added, reporting on Monday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. "The (Yankee) Stadium crowd has grown tired of Volpe, who heard his loudest boos of the season. ... Just watch: at this rate, Rosario will be playing shortstop at least one or two days a week." The Yankees have stuck stubbornly with Volpe as the everyday shortstop despite a significant step back last year and a dramatic dip in defense this year. But with Volpe now batting ninth, hearing negative reactions from the home fans and sharing the position with Rosario, he could soon be giving up some starts to the Yankees' newest trade upgrade. Angels get to deGrom and stop Rangers' 6-game win streak with 6-4 victory
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Kevin Newman, Taylor Ward and Luis Rengifo homered to help the Los Angeles Angels beat Texas 6-4 on Monday night, snapping the Rangers' six-game win streak. Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 19th save. The 37-year-old Jansen hasn't allowed an earned run in 16 consecutive appearances, the longest active streak in the American League and the third-longest of his career. Connor Brogdon (2-1) replaced Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz in the fifth and gave up one run in 1 2/3 innings. Kochanowicz, called up from Triple-A Salt Lake earlier in the day, allowed two runs — none earned — in 4 2/3 innings. Newman's two-run shot opened the scoring in the third, and Zach Neto added an RBI double in the fifth. Josh Jung hit a solo homer and Jonah Heim had an RBI single for the Rangers. Josh Smith and Corey Seager scored when Adolis García reached on an error by right fielder Gustavo Campero, who bobbled a routine flyball. Jacob deGrom (10-3), who was 6-0 in his previous 10 starts, gave up five runs and seven hits with eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner has allowed at least one home run in five consecutive games in the same season for the first time in his 12-year career. Ward's leadoff homer in the sixth gave the Angels the lead for good, and Rengifo added a two-run drive off reliever Jacob Webb to make it 6-3. The Angels, who beat Seattle 4-1 on Sunday, have won back-to-back games for the first time since defeating Arizona on July 11 and 12. Patrick Corbin (6-7, 3.78 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Texas on Tuesday against Yusei Kikuchi (4-7, 3.23) in the middle game of the series.
