Over 1,300 Police Officers, Personnel On Duty During LIMA'25
ALOR SETAR, May 16 (Bernama) -- More than 1,300 police officers and personnel will be assigned to maintain and ensure security and smooth traffic throughout Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25), taking place from May 20 to 24.
Langkawi district police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said the assignment will focus on security control at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) and Resorts World Exhibition Halls, which are among the locations that will be used throughout LIMA'25.
"In addition, the assignment also involves accommodation locations for distinguished guests, official functions, radar control, crime prevention patrols, monitoring of crowded locations, traffic control and crisis and disaster response teams.
"During LIMA'25, Jalan LIMA facing the airport, Dewan LIMA and Jalan Teluk Baru at the Resorts World intersection to Simpang Kuala Temonyong will be made a one-way route from 7 am to 6 pm. All visitors who want to go to the exhibition at the MIEC Hall are encouraged to use the official LIMA'25 e-hailing service," he said in a statement today.
He said that visitors in cars are advised to use the Hotel Pelangi Resort junction to the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) and avoid the airport roundabout to enter the designated parking lot.
"The parking lot for visitors is the site in front of PULAPOL, Jalan Kuala Muda opposite Bella Vista Ekspress and the parking lot in front of Langkawi International Airport. For visitors to the maritime exhibition, parking spaces are available at the Resorts World Hotel and Jalan Teluk Baru,' he said.
He also advised visitors to be careful with bookings, especially through agents of rental cars, hotels, guest houses and other packages, to avoid falling victim to fraud by irresponsible parties.
Meanwhile, Shariman said the public, especially pilgrims who will be departing via the airport, are advised to leave their homes early to avoid delays or any unwanted incidents.

KUCHING: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) has foiled several smuggling attempts involving various goods worth RM11.93 million during 'Op Taring Alpha' and 'Op Taring Awas/Batas' carried out at multiple locations across the state. Its deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said in the first operation carried out at 4.30 am yesterday, the GOF detained two trailer lorries in Sri Aman suspected of transporting smuggled goods. Advertisement 'Checks on both vehicles uncovered 21,500 cartons of white cigarettes and 51,216 litres of liquor, believed to have been brought in without the payment of duties and valid permits. 'Two local men aged 44 and 50 were also detained, while the two trailer lorries along with four containers were seized. The seizure is estimated to be worth RM10.47 million,' he said in a statement here today. Rosdi said in the second operation on June 8 at about 9.30 pm, the GOF detained two lorries in Bau suspected of transporting rattan without valid documents, and arrested two local men aged 25 and 33. 'Inspections uncovered 15 tonnes of rattan, with the total seizure valued at RM620,000,' he said. Meanwhile, Rosdi said in two separate operations on June 6, the GOF seized frozen products in Bau district and arrested a 49-year-old local man. 'At the first location, a lorry carrying 7,800 kilogrammes of frozen meat without a permit was detained at 10.05 pm, with the seizure valued at approximately RM488,600. 'At the second location, at 6.10 am in Padawan, a 27-year-old man was detained. A Toyota Harrier SUV, reported to have been fraudulently obtained, was seized. The vehicle is estimated to be worth RM175,000,' he said. Sukuk misuse case: Tan Sri quizzed by MACC for six hours
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday (June 11) recorded the statement of an individual with the title "Tan Sri' for six hours in connection with the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in the Klang Valley. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the process of recording the statement, which began at about 9am, ended at 3pm and will continue tomorrow. He said that due to the Tan Sri's health condition, the process of recording the statement was conducted at his house in the Klang Valley. "So far, MACC has recorded statements from 52 witnesses, including the Tan Sri and his family same process will continue tomorrow,' Azam said when contacted today. Meanwhile, it was reported that the MACC also conducted a raid at the Tan Sri's residence in Melaka, but nothing was seized or confiscated. Ex-international school employee claims trial to cheating, CBT involving over RM142,000
KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of an international school has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to three charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM142,354.10. A. Komala, 33, who served as a parent liaison executive and personal assistant at the time, is accused of misappropriating the sum for personal use at the school located on Persiaran Stonor, Dang Wangi, from June 11 to 28, 2024. She was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Komala also faces two counts of cheating two Japanese men by deceiving them into believing that the school fee invoices she issued for their children were legitimate. The alleged deception prompted the victims to transfer RM94,509 and RM47,845.10 respectively into a bank account under a company owned by the accused's husband. The offences were allegedly committed at the same place and during the same period. The cheating charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan proposed bail at RM30,000 with one surety for all charges, while defence counsel Kelvinder Singh Sindhu appealed for a lower amount, citing that the accused is financially supporting her family. Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail at RM30,000 with one surety and set July 15 for mention. – Bernama
