Bears sign 4 DBs, waive WR John Jackson, K Jonathan Kim

The Chicago Bears made a series of roster moves on their day off, adding four defensive backs to their roster. On Tuesday, the team announced they had signed defensive backs Millard Bradford, Mekhi Garner, Kaleb Hayes, and Mark Perry. To make room, the Bears waived wide receiver John Jackson and kicker Jonathan Kim, waived defensive back Major Burns with an injury designation, and placed defensive back Shaun Wade on injured reserve. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune first reported the signings of Garner, Hayes, and Perry on Monday. Bradford signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and appeared in three games, totaling three tackles. Now he reunites with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, his former head coach. Perry was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024 out of TCU by the Miami Dolphins and has since hopped around to multiple teams, spending time on the practice squad for the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans. Garner, another undrafted free agent, came into the league with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 and played in three games as a special teams player. He spent some time with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL earlier this spring. Hayes also entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023, joining the Jacksonville Jaguars. Like Perry, he has bounced around with multiple NFL teams and has yet to appear in a regular season game. All four players took part in a tryout on Monday. Departing the team is Jackson, who joined the Bears in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. Jackson spent all last season on the practice squad and had a couple of bad drops in this year's preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. He is close friends with quarterback Caleb Williams after playing together at USC. Kim, meanwhile, signed earlier this offseason as an undrafted free agent and was the second kicker behind Cairo Santos. He played the second half of Sunday's preseason game. Burns was also 2025 undrafted free agent and played early in Sunday's preseason game before leaving with an injury. Wade joined the Bears earlier in the offseason. Report: Bears rookie Shemar Turner will miss a month with an ankle injury

The Bears are preparing to be without rookie defensive tackle Shemar Turner for at least a month, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Turner, a second-round pick, injured his ankle near the end of the first training camp practice last Wednesday. He will miss all three preseason games and could miss the start of the season, according to Biggs. The former Texas A&M product withdrew from the Senior Bowl when medical tests discovered the stress fracture he had surgery to repair before the start of the 2024 season didn't fully heal. Turner had a rod inserted into his leg during surgery, but he unknowingly ended up playing through the season with the injury after the bone didn't fully heal. Turner finished his Aggie career with 115 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one pass deflection and three forced fumbles.
