Something smells fowl: Chicken-stuffed toilet leads to business bust

MELAKA – A foul stench of animal waste from a grocery shop has led to the discovery of a Pakistani national allegedly selling live chickens that were hidden inside a toilet.
The grocery shop, operated by the individual and without a licence from the local authority (PBT), was uncovered during an operation conducted by the Melaka branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Taman Cheng Emas, Cheng, recently.
Its director, Dr Mohd Hazimin Jamaludin, said enforcement officers found that the premises were not only tainted with the foul smell of poultry waste but were also in an unsanitary condition. An enforcement officer inspects an expired electronic weighing scale that was still in use.
He explained that the man, in his 40s, initially gave evasive answers and denied operating any business at the premises, which were also found to be unlicensed by the local authority.
"However, after being presented with evidence of commercial activities, the man admitted to running an unlicensed business.
"Further inspection revealed that the premises failed to display price tags and used an electronic weighing scale that was unverified and had expired certification," he said.
Earlier, a four-minute 40-second video uploaded by KPDN Melaka on TikTok went viral.
The video shows enforcement officers inspecting the grocery store before discovering more than seven live chickens hidden in a toilet near the storeroom. A screenshot shows the Pakistani national opening the toilet door, which had been tied shut with a rope from the outside.
Hazimin added that the Pakistani trader was in the process of transferring ownership of the business, which he had purchased from a local, and currently only holds a business registration under the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
'KPDN Melaka issued a total compound of RM500 under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 and the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
'The inspection found the individual had failed to display price tags on items for sale, though no seizures were made,' he added.

Matthew warned that firm action would be taken against traders or station operators found violating the regulations. 'Offenders under Section 22 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 face fines up to RM1 million, or imprisonment for up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders could be fined up to RM3 million or jailed for up to five years,' he said. Companies found guilty may face fines up to RM2 million for the first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences, he added. He also called on the public to lodge reports of such misconduct to help ensure that RON95 subsidies benefit only Malaysian citizens. 'Fuel distributors and traders are reminded to strictly comply with the laws. Loan enquiry becomes housewife's nightmare
SEGAMAT: What started as a simple loan enquiry turned into a nightmare for a 29-year-old housewife, who was relentlessly harassed by illegal moneylenders over loans she never agreed to. The victim, who only wished to be known as Lu, said she responded to an online advertisement offering fast cash on July 2, but dropped the plan upon learning that she needed to pay RM500 interest on a RM500 loan. Despite her decision, the lender transferred RM500 into her bank account and instructed that she repay RM500 on July 5, and another RM500 on July 8. 'He warned that my husband and family would be harassed if I don't pay back,' she said. Fearing for their safety, Lu made the first RM500 payment on July 5, but the loan shark demanded an additional RM2,000 as a so-called late payment penalty. 'I ignored his messages as I felt I was being scammed,' she said. Lu thought the ordeal had ended – until another RM500 was deposited into her account on July 8, with no details of the sender. A few days later, she received a call from a different person who claimed she had applied for an RM800 loan. Lu has lodged a police report and sought help from Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong. Pakistani Man Charged With Sodomy, Sexual Assault And Robbery
SHAH ALAM, July 23 (Bernama) -- A Pakistani man was charged in the Sessions Court here today on five charges involving sodomy, sexual assault and robbery of two children and two teenage boys between April and June. Muhammad Hassan, 24, however, pleaded not guilty after all charges were read out before Judge Norazlin Othman in Urdu. The accused is facing two charges of having unnatural sex with a 19-year-old and a 15-year-old boy without their consent. The offences were committed on June 26 and May 18 in an area near Section 27 Shah Alam at 10.05 pm and 1.30 pm respectively. The accused was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning. The man was also accused of robbing a 19-year-old teenager of RM230 in cash at the same place and time and was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted. In addition, in the same proceedings, the accused was also charged with committing sexual assault on two boys aged eight and 13 in May and June, also around Section 27. The charge was made under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and can be subject to whipping. Today's proceedings were conducted by deputy public prosecutors Nurul Sofea Jaysal and Ruthra Raj Selvarajoo while the accused was not represented.
